Wii getting $50 price drop this month? One Toys R Us ad seems to think so
Of all the fakeables in consumer electronics, the weekly newspaper ad has to be one of the easiest marks. Still, this one looks pretty legit, and if it's real it means either we're getting a much overdue Wii price cut on September 27th, or someone on the Toys R Us ad team has been severely misinformed. If it's not true and we have to wait another holiday season for the Wii to break the $200 mark, we're not getting Nintendo that Snuggie we promised it for Christmas -- everybody knows only good little boys, girls and multinational game companies get presents.

It's about time
Still expensive though for the wii
I mean a PS3 with hard drive+Blu ray drive and Next Gen graphic with real free online play for 299$ and wii for 199$?
The wii doesn't even have ethernet port for god sake should be 149$ max, i'd bite when it become 99$ (just like the gamecube)
yeh this is still too much for a wii.
i may consider it for $50 but anything more than that is a ripoff.
I knew I should have held off on buying one a couple weeks ago *sigh*
IMO, spend the extra $100 and get a PS3
@xtole
What if I want to play Mario, Zelda, and Virtual Console games? I mean, if I could do that on my PS3 I would, but since I can't, I think a $200 Wii is a pretty good option.
*** Also available at "BABIES R US" ****
^ Left from the word "FREE" in the AD and "Under the "Wii game system" line
How embarrassing, since when babies demand a wii.
lol, yes, it's about time for Wii to get a price cut, but it's just fine at $199.
Wii has awesome games as it is, bashing it and telling people to just save up another $100 just to satisfy your fanboyism isn't going to make the cut.
People want to play Zelda, Metroid, and universal mascot of video games, Mario. Wake me when your `oh-so-awesome-PS3` include any of those franchises.
On a side note, can't wait for Metroid: Other M...
@curtisrutland
If you wanted to do any of those things, you would already own a Wii. If you wanted a console to play games in general, spend the extra $100 and get a PS3 (IMHO)
Mega-Japan are you making fun of the ps3? lol
Your so called mario was not on the PS2 yet the ps2 sold over 150.000.000 worldwide and STILL selling.
PS2 fans will convert to PS3 sooner or later it's matter of when the price is right for them or when there favorite games get released, some are waiting for GT and some are waiting for FFXIII or Versus or FFXIV etc
Twilight princess and Mario Galaxy are a couple of the best games ever created, I haven't played anything that compares for sheer enjoyability on my Xbox.
you can get gamecubes for shipping price
Well I guess its official. Sony, Microsoft and are all gonna take MAJOR losses on their consoles this year. Frankly, I wanted to buy a Ps3 but no Backward Compatibility for PS2 games is the deal breaker. I might just buy a Wii. Not for the crappy Wii games, but, for the classic Turbogrphyx 16 and NES games.
@ Quantumphysics
I still have a mint condition TurboGrafx with accessories and original box and manuals and about a dozen games.
I checked it a few months ago to see if it works and it's fine.
I really don't know what to do with it.
Any suggestions?
Let's hope the price drop also comes with the black color available in Japan.
Toys R Us. How apt.
lol :)
Oh god, that means even more people are gona buy them:( Good for nintendo, not so good when after a month the noveltly has worn off and everyone is kicking themselves for buying it
Seriously, everybody I know with a Wii is letting it collect dust after a couple of months. However, I also know a bunch of people with Wiis that didn't own game systems before, so maybe Nintendo had a good idea.
Every serious gamer I know, like myself, doesn't get much out of their Wii. However I have several friends and relatives who are very casual gamers that use it about every other day. I bought it full-well knowing it was going to be for SSBB and the occasional Wii Sports match, and I play it maybe once a month, and I'm fine like that. I feel like I got my money's worth. It was intended to supplement my primary gaming platform, not replace it. This is why fanboys, in general, are dumb. You don't usually have to choose. You can have BOTH.
I hope you wern't implying that i'm a fanboy? i was just making a observation...
we play the wii a few days a week... Unfortunately we are playing the GC version of mario baseball allstars and taking drinks whenever we score a run =p
I play Brawl, Zelda, Wii Sports, and Mario on my Wii all the time, and at my college we have tournaments for the Brawl and Guitar Hero. In the college game room we have two PS3s(Call of Duty MW and Uncharted/RFom 2(switches every week)), three 360s(Guitar Hero, GoW2, and Madden), and two Wiis(Brawl and Wii Sports).
The Wiis have the longest lines.
I planning to purchase Wii Sports Resort in the next couple of weeks.
I wanted a PS3 but the game that I am a huge fan of Ratchet and Clank didn't have online multiplayer. I am hoping a Crack in Time will have online, but if it doesn't I will buy a PS3 for Kingdom Heart.
So 3 years and counting now...... I love how people still talk about how the Wii is a novelty that is going to wear off. Traditional gamers just can't come to terms with the fact that Nintendo released a platform for the casual gamer. Just because the Wii isn't right for your needs, doesn't mean that it is a fad or that everyone that buys one will hate it after a month. I have had my Wii for two and a half years and my family and I have gotten WAY more than our money's worth. Nintendo won this round hands down - accept it and move on.
Still over price, it should be $100.
I don't know about it being overpriced, but still not low enough for me to buy one.
Monkey with glasses-
I think that's the definition of being over priced.
I thought he meant that you don't get what you pay for, but i might be wrong. My bad.
Wii is too big. They need to make a slim model
Indeed. The thing almost fits into a standard desktop 5.25" bay (fun HTPC modding project :). Clearly it is oversized.
then they can build upon the DSi's success by calling it the Wiii (pronounced Wii-eye)
If they're going to follow the DSi, then they gotta drop gamecube support and put .3 megapixel cameras on the sensor bar. lol
Isn't about time retailers get on the 99 obsession? Seriously. Add a friggin cent to it, I'll still buy it if it says $200.
Over rather, not on.
Its a marketing thing. A price starting with a $1xx.xx looks better than 2xx.xx. So even if its only a penny difference the price would at first glance or subconsciously look cheaper to some people. Also its a bit of a tradition in MSRP. Wouldn't it be a bit odd if the XBox 360 Arcade MSRP was $198.72 or the PS3 was $299.36?
@kal326
An MSRP tradition, in America at least. In most other countries prices end in zero and have tax included in the price, so you pay a full number of dollars and don't have to deal with a bunch of coins.
That makes all three with price drops...gotta love competition.
Currently the most overpriced, boring and underpowered console out there.
interesting
Still not worth it
Damn these rogue, intentionally misleading ads! Damn them!
Honestly, for this price ($199) i will go for an Xbox 360 Arcade and forget about the rest. All of them have about the same price games and beside, you can do a lot more with your XBOX e.g. Media Extender without 3rd party apps.
JMHO...
You still pay too much. Considering the technology of the Wii compared to the PS3 it should be given away with a box of cereal.
+1
-1 just to counteract that douche-bag, sorry you got caught in the crossfire.
Just thought I would provide this handy buying guide for people that still can't decide which console to get.
If you like the games on the Wii: Buy a Wii.
If you like the games on the XBox 360: Buy an XBox 360.
If you like the games on the PS3: Buy a PS3.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
THATS how it works
But what if said games appear on all three systems? What should be the deciding factor? Price, power, fanbase, usability, graphics or reliability? We need a more detail buying guide.
@Monkey with glasses:
For price: Wii
For power: PS3
For fanbase: Wii (it's Nintendo!)
For usability: Xbox 360
For graphics: PS3
For reliability: Wii
For price: Wii
For power: PS3
For fanbase: Wii (it's Nintendo!)
For usability: PS3( Blu-ray!, + Better exclusives)!
For graphics: PS3
For reliability: PS3( I had one Wii fail on me in 2007, though it's been good since then, PS3 good since launch day until it got stolen)
