Zune HD sold early, still unusable until tomorrow

@Jordan >> "Then the Zune came along, the iPods only true competition."
So... the Zunes of 2006, 2007, 2008 were competing with Apple? In what way? 5% market share?
Just kidding... couldn't resist. I can't wait to see the ZuneHD in person!

isnt thr any workaround???
please its getting around 6k more LOL !
It is strange to me that the Zune is not getting as much media time like the that other company's PMP last week.
In all fairness, it seems to me that they're giving it as much media time as they can. MS has been insanely tight-lipped about it. Hell, we still have no idea how apps are going to work or what games will be available and the thing comes out tomorrow!
Really want one. MS has finally awaken. I expect great things to come from Apple and MS over the next couple years as they battle it out for consumer mindshare.
The only people who know about this new Zune HD are geeks who hang out on gadget sites (myself included).
The average Joe and Jane Consumer don't care about specs like OLED or Tegra, or even know what they are to begin with.
When they shop for a new "iPod" (as all PMPs are now referred to), we know that 80% of them have had an iPod in the past, have purchased a ton of content from iTunes Store (a lot of it probably still DRMed) that they know "Plays for Sure" with their iPods, also know that 80% of their friends have iPods, have access to over 75,000 applications including multiplayer and sharing apps that will work with their friends ipods/iphones and have a massive selection of accessories that work with the iPod.
Plus Apple knows the high end PMP market is shrinking with smartphones becoming more popular. That is why the nano got all the feature updates. When a large majority (not everyone) are looking for a PMP, they get something like a nano, if they want a high end PMP, they go for the iPhone.
Don't get me wrong, it's good to see new technology pushing the envelope, but the reasons above are why "iPod killers" come and go every six months. Just like the same reasons OS X can't put a dent in the Windows market share.
Well, the only stat we have on such things at this point is amazon, which currently has the 32GB Zune HD at #2 on the best seller list for MP3 Players. The only thing beating it is the 8GB iPod Touch, priced at $100 less. Hell, the equivalent iPod(32GB iPod Touch) is losing to it.
This is the kind of device that the Zune should have been from the get go, I can't wait to get mine tomorrow!
Ugh. Is Frankfurter Paul A. Chapel's new username?
I'd seriously kill for one of these, but college and my iPod nano's refusal to die keep me from doing so. Perhaps Engadget or Microsoft might be kind enough to give me one for business/promotional purposes.
so gorgeous ... this will be SO much nicer than an iPod Nano
using my lovely best buy prp tomorrow to swap my 80 gig for a lovely 32 gig. luckily only have like 24 gigs of music now
.... Who bought it ??? ... and Why ???
@WindowsFTW, iPhone seems like something from the 90's? LOL
Laughing at stupid people is fun.
On a side note, I really wish the iPhone would get an OLED screen. The Zune HD's display is gorgeous. :( But I don't like the actual design of the Zune HD or the UI too much. But hey, that's just me. I know a lot of people are drooling over it right now.
Troll Rule #23
Never admit you're a troll no matter how many times you've been called out on it or how obvious you are.
He calls himself 'frankfurter' and he likes to use the word 'testy'. Anyone seeing a pattern here?
Now all he has to do is come out of the closet.
Whatever dude, all I know is that you're the one who like to use terms like 'huge release'. Gross
You've been in here for about 2 hours. I think you and your iPod touch missed the recess bell. Run along now, you're going to be late for social studies!
I don't think that was my mom, she's only attracted to men.
Maybe it was a tranny and you were hopped up on ecstasy and couldn't tell the difference (or just didn't care). It happens (to you).
Success! ZuneHD 32GB has been acquired, and is sitting next to me on my desk. http://twitpic.com/hq9ep
May I ask where you bought this?
A Tic Tac like you would not fill anyone's mouth. Keep dreaming Mary.
It looks awesome but im still waiting on a review
You people seriously need to stop bitching about lack of apps.
Aim of Zune HD is to be the portable media player, not some sort of "Do-it-all but all half-baked" thing iTouch is.
Some of you keep bringing up the number of Apps that iTouch has.
Granted, it is an impressive amount of apps available, but truth is most of them are quite useless. There are some very useful apps, I admit, but half of them are just pure garbages like "Make your picture jiggle" or "iTouch Lie Detector".
Agreed. Apps would be nice if they are useful and hopefully MS will weed out the crap. I'm more interested in the games being released for this. I'm considering either getting this or the PSP Go, I just need to decide what is more important to me, games or music. If MS re-structures the Zune Pass program to also include movies and television (obviously not for the same price), then that would make my decision much easier.
i was gonna upgrade my ipod touch 1G to a 3G but i wasnt impressed so after doing research for the first time ever, i knew it existed just not details like how the program works how pricing is on songs etc, on the zune im very impressed but im awaiting reviews to make my decision cause i need a new one my 1G is on the fritz =D
Yep. I actually had mine on the 5th. My stores automated system called me and I went to their warehouse to pick it up. Though it's just sitting here waiting for the site to go live with the new software update. It's been a LONG 10 days!
That's a damn lie! You don't have any friends.
I understand that the Zune Marketplace is unavailable but can Engadget please quell my biggest fear about the Zune HD and take it outside to see if/how badly the OLED performs under sunlight? I expect some degradation and that won't stop me from buying the device tomorrow but I want to know how bad it is. It won't pose a problem for me since I'm mostly indoors but it might for others.
Die in righteous fire!
i preordered mine from dell!
woooooooooot
lmao
Zune HD looks attractive on paper, but will have to see it in person before pulling the trigger.
I came across this article comparing the iPod Touch and the Zune HD. Anyone read this or have any thoughts?
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/09/14/from_oled_to_tegra_five_myths_of_the_zune_hd.html
I had a chance to preview the Zune HD at a local Bestbuy when they had that Zune HD preview weekend. People IT IS as sleek and beautiful and even sexy as the pictures indicate and more so in person. It just feel right when holding it. I must agree the Apple ipods are getting "old" especially in the world of electronics and I think Apple is running out of ideas to tweak them. My problem is that all my music collections is on Apple's AAC music format aka iTunes but if it wasn't, I will get the Zune HD in a heartbeat!!!!!!!
Well I got my email from Amazon saying it has been shipped, from...Cambellsville Kentucky. Tomorrow is gonna be a great day.
I even bought Lady Gaga's album to celebrate.
read the fine print... here's some of it regarding the great battery life.
... taken from http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Zune-HD-16GB/product/01A9B8A7#ctl19_tcla_a
Other
Battery: Music, up to 33 hours (wireless off); video, up to 8.5 hours5
Charge Time: Approximately 3 hours when connected to your PC, approximately 2 hours with A/C adapter

5 Battery life was tested by Zune in August 2009 using preproduction hardware and device software. Battery tests are conducted with specific Zune units. Actual results may vary. Audio content used was WMA 128 Kbps. Video content used was 320x240 WMV9 500 Kbps total bit rate. Batteries have a limited number of charge cycles and may eventually hold less charge. Battery life and the number of charge cycles vary by use and settings. See www.zune.net/batteries for more information.
basically saying, your mileage will vary.
I think on paper it's cool, but not on a Mac, and wait and see for actual useablity/battery life.
I'm pretty sure it'll be fine for everyone but I'm tired of the fanboys shouting 8 HOURS OF VIDEO!!!
.... serioulsy, I think we should wait till we get this in some hands before claiming acutual battery life.
thank god these are coming out tomorrow.
I like it so far, just disappointed that it's not for everyone. (mac users)
....I'm not booting into XP for this thing.
Hi everyone.
My want is to have Zune HD. We dont have in Nigeria.
If I send money, will someone send me Zune HD? I pay extra $250 for troubel and ship fast.
Send me banc acount number and I will send money today.
if he was smart he would have rolled his pc clock forward like i do for most temporal sensitive products
Why don't I have my paycheck yet! I live in Ft. Myers, we get everything leaked out of that Best Buy lol.
Oh, look, do some people still work for Microsoft here?
The iPod Touch does not have pixelated video unless the original converted video was encoded below 720p, encoded incorrectly, or you encoded the video below 720p for your iPod Touch.
Nor is the iPod 3GS video bad. It is crystal clear.
And I'm wondering why Zune HD doesn't work out of the box. What if the update servers crashed?
Well, here we are, launch day. There's so many things we could talk about, from the negative reviews to the dismal sales numbers. One thing I found the most interesting was how the app store (if it even exists yet?) is/will be CLOSED to outside development. Oh, how do these gems get handed out so easy. :^)
I can't imagine the embarrassment. All we here about from you Apple-haters is "Oh the humanity, they don't approve certain apps!!! BOOOOOHOOOOO. Open source. Android!!! The man is keeping us down!!! It's may damn phone, let me decide what I'll put on it!!!!"
Then your iPod killer is released.
And....the app store (does it even exist yet?), is CLOSED to outside developers. LOL. Oh wait, Twitter will be FREE!!!!
I'm done, I've spouted out enough absurd and stupid comments to rile up you Zunies for a week. I thought I'd come back to stir the pot, but WOW, didn't expect Microsoft to supply me with the game winning material.
Enjoy the app store. Maybe they'll toss in Minesweeper!
