Motorola DEXT promised to Orange UK in early October, free on contract
While the US release date is still in question, Motorola CLIQ's brother across the pond DEXT has gotten itself an official an early October window from UK's exclusive carrier Orange. Best of all, it's expected to be free for those who commit to a two-year, £34.26 per month ($56.43) contract. With any luck, Americans with a penchant for Android and physical keyboards will get their own "free on contract and launching in October" deal, but we've still got nothing confirmed.

no way it'll be free.
american teleproviders like to price gauge way too much.
199 at launch
99 in 6 months
A boy can dream though, right?
Yo V Langs I'm really happy for you, imma let you finish, but Orange UK has one of the best deals of all time!!
huh?
I want this phone alot. (coming from an iPhone which I'm SICK of)
and I wish t-mobile would release such a deal here. but let's be honest any mobile provider that thinks they have a winner on their hands will want to charge as much as possible.
i mean the iPhone has basically throttled the competition into selling devices for 200 bucks (except for professional devices such as touchpro 2) and i don't see someone bucking that trend.
it's really our sad state of cell contracts in america which has brought about this problem. companies do not want to have deal with the american market if they can do a ok in europe, nokia and sony ericsson release only a fraction of their phones here in america and that too very late compared to their EU releases. if people were not alien to the thought of paying 4-500 dollars for a quality (read: smart) phone, the Xperia X1 would have done great here, the CDMA business (which is ridiculously antiquated) would have long since folded and we'd have plenty of GSM/WCDMA network providers here who actually gave a damn.
then contracts would actually offer something very enticing to the consumer. we've basically been forced into believing that we will absolutely HAVE to spend 200 dollars on a quality phone and absolutely HAVE to have a long term contract if we are to not have to deal with flip phones.
disgusting. isn't it?
It'll be free - Motorola is saving $199 (or less!) for its NEXT phone (to be announced real Soon Now).
Yeah, I hope this means I'll be able to pick this up with a contract renewal for free. Probably not though.
I've got two lines up for renewal in October. Would be really nice to finally get an Android phone from AT&T
European operators give out very expensive phones for free with the correct contract.
But unfortunately, our US operators do not offer different contracts to make expensive phones free.
Free on contract = lame phone.
Look at all the previous free on contract phones. Any of them any good? And I mean just* released free on contract phones. Not something that was initially good when it came out, and now has been surpassed by newer phones; and has been put on free on contract.
Plus its a Motorola. So you could pay someone to take it, and it would still be lame.
This is basically an updated G1, I can't possibly see how its lame...
if i understand correctly, the Iphone 3G was free (or like 1EUR) on contract when it came out, and that's hardly a shitty phone.
Well for £35 24 months contract I would expect it to be free anyway. If it is free on a £25 18 month contract then that would be impressive.
Most phones here are available 'from free' on contract.
It's not a very good deal. 2 year contract? 18 months should be the maximum.
Yeah. This isn't a good deal as far as UK mobile deals go. £25 per month on 18 month, or £35 on 12 month, that'd be a good deal. £35 on 24 month is a no-go.
I'm actually warming up to this phones design, can't wait for the first reviews. I may stay with T-Mobile after all
Haha, in America?
A smartphone? For free?
Kayne West would get off fish sticks before that happens.
Yo Motorola, I'm really happy for you, I'll let you finish, but Apple has one of the best phones of all time. One of the best phones of all time.
I did some research and hopefully this is an apt comparison.
T-Mo charges $199 w/ 2 yrs for the myTouch
and now $99 w/ 2 yrs for the myTouch with Oprah's promo.
Orange charges $0 w/ 2 yrs for the myTouch.
It seems fair to say the Cliq will be on the lower end btwn $99 and $199 unless T-Mobile and Moto go balls to walls with this one.
IF they decided to release this one with a $0 cost with contract though could entice many many people away from the iPhone set. (Hopefully) With any luck I'll be getting the Cliq for myself!!
in britain you cant pretty much every phone out for free if you pay up to 7 pounds you get iphones as well
Start again. Take your time.
I can't remember the last time I saw a Motorola phone in the UK. I had assumed that Motorola had completely withdrawn from the market.
Interesting news.
not really looked for some time for motorola as there has never been one i liked but i ment most phones that are in stores can get pretty much all for free
2 Years? I think not.
Hopefully it will be in the US market soon.

That's too expensive, especially on a 24 month contract! Orange Sux!
Looks like an iPhone witha slide out keyboard and MOTO labeling. Awesome. I love the free market competition and all of the unique and original products coming out.
Its amazing. I can hardly believe that Cliq can come for free. With these kind of features its really an excellent news. Moto Blur is an innovative idea of other competitor phones would follow suite.
