or you can pay 35 cents for 4 case fan screws $5 for thermal gel and spend 10 minutes on youtube to figure out how to fix your RRoD. Seriously my wife was able to fix her RRoD by watching the youtube and following directions.
$90 to play online? Is this misinformation necessary?
$40 for HDMI? People who pay that deserve to get fracked. Monoprice is your friend.
its 90 dollars in monopoly money, not Australian.
For all you haters - this is the very reason why having 802.11g WiFi built-in in the PS3 & Wii was a stupid idea. Without having to replace my entire console I'll be able to get 802.11n
As long as it's reasonably priced, I say well done Microsoft.
Regards,
Shane.
Yes, because it is impossible for Sony or Nintendo to make an adapter of their own.
Checkmate Microsoft. Checkmate.
Yeah I don't see your logic either. The PS3 has USB ports; WiFi being built in doesn't make it more or less difficult to sell a wireless-n adapter, and it doesn't affect the price point either. It just gives the customer more value. These things are very cheap to include.
OMG! The millions of existing notebook PC users are screwed!! Their machines don't have 802.11n built-in either...
This is a really loosely related comment, but it just reminded me how annoying it is that the PS3 doesn't bother to have any USB ports in the back. That seems like an annoying oversight to me, that any USB-based upgrades you make will have to be plainly visible on the front of the system cluttering up your entertainment center.
A USB port on the back and an IR receiver on the front. That's about five dollars worth of manufacturing upgrades that really would have made the system much more home theater friendly.
I apologize for my blatantly off-topic rant, but it's 7 in the morning and I'm grumpy.
Atleast its black so it doesn't look stupid on an elite. Now if only they would release a black messenger kit.
Don't count on it....as I pointed out above, all the Dev Kit is black. There is nothing to say this will hit shelves in anything other than white.
It chaps my ass....I have a nice Sony Bravia, Sky HD box, PS3, 2x Elites, Sammy Monitor, and my PC in the same room...It's ALL black and chrome/silver and looks smart....yet for some reason all of my 360 accessories need to be white....hence me not owning any 360 accessories bar the second controller and 2x play & charge kits (which you CAN get in black).
My streaming kit is behind the TV, so it's wired via a switch to the 360 and PS3, then the whole lot is connected to my network with a Belkin 802.11G bridge. It works great, so I don't really need an adapter, but I am considering an upgrade anyway as I mostly use the streaming kit as a NAS (so it can be moved and I'll just stream from the PC once a year instead...).
Fingers crossed for a black one...
Or just get a wireless bridge and convert the ethernet port to a wifi port.
Quick Google...

Is it going to have feet?
Microsoft need to figure out if they sell HDD and wireless products a cost or even make a small loss on them they would get more people connecting and buying stuff on xbox live where in the end they can make heaps of cash
or how about this you buy a wifi adapter you get 12months of gold free then ppl wouldnt bitch so much
I don't really care about 802.11N, but if this thing supports WPA2 then I'm buying it anyway.
G's probably fast enough for virtually any game currently out there (ignoring the inherent wireless latency that you don't have as much of with wired...). Unless you are the server for a pretty big game, the data bandwidth needs aren't going to be higher than a g connection, and g connections can max out most current broadband setups now anyway.
So what's the need for this? Either obsolete parts in the old one that needed to be updated (doubtful), or the push toward delivering more HD media (Zune videos, and if my crossed fingers happen to get their wish, a push on Windows Media Center in Extender mode use).
If you'd ever tried to stream HD video over a G connection, you would know the need.
@a5ehren: That's exactly the point I was making. This isn't a game related update. It's probably part of a strategy of MS's to make this more of a games/media box than just a games box.
IBought an AGBN router just so I could use the A connection of the previous Xbox wireless adapter. Makes all the difference with VMC...
Why did they wait this long? I just ran cables because I was sick of the slowness when streaming HD content.
Media PC with wireless n + bridged wired connection to xbox 360 = win
You are better off wired anyway. Plenty of headroom for high bandwidth video, not to mention less latency in games. I've got an 8 port switch behind my media rack because nearly everything over there these days is wired ethernet. HTPC, Xbox, PS3. I'm sure if I ever upgrade the TV and AVR, they'll be wired, too.
Good wireless n adapter for about half the price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833156258&Tpk=trendnet%20gaming%20adapter
I have not lost connection in about 3 months with this.
Bah, I finally broke down and bought the wifi adapter last week...... Typical.
Ive been running wireless N on my xbox for months now... and for cheaper than the M$ wireless G adapter. Less than half price actually.
Get on newegg and search for TEW-647GA. I bought mine on sale for 45 bucks. Its currently up there for 54. Enjoy!
I guess a $50 price drop on the b/g adapter (is it even g?) and the n comes in at the standard price or no more than $20 over the $100 charged for the current one.
...and it's black??? Wonder if it be part of a Natal pack-in?
Eh, probably more like the b/g/n is the "Elite" and the b/g is the "Arcade"
I don't know...the Arcade doesn't even come with a hard drive, I doubt they'll throw in a wireless adapter that they've been overcharging for since it launched.
It would be nice but I'm trying to be realistic.
Microsoft you, FAIL!
That must build in at the first time.
So one more negative points for the Xbox 360.
Idiot -.-
The funny part is you have the PS3 fan boys saying how the PS3 is better because you don't have to buy the wireless adaptor. But at least the 360 won't be stuck at 802.11g! You can buy the adaptor if you need it and if not then don't buy it and now or soon if you only need G cuz your only going to be gaming and not worried about streaming HD from your windows 7 Media center PC then great but if you are going to stream HD content and want the extra speed you will be able to get 802.11n It's nice to have options. poor PS3 stuck at 802.11g! Don't even get me started on the hole video out options on the PS3 compared to the Xbox 360, Sony no VGA out come on! I use this with my projector and the 360 and the picture is great!
