New iPod touch gets a speed test, zips right on by

The new generation of the iPod touch, we've been told, is roughly 50 percent faster than the previous iteration. Well, the fine folks over at the iPhone Blog have done a bit of information collecting on just that topic -- to see if Apple's latest is actually that much faster. Macworld did testing which showed a reduction in boot times from 31 to 19 seconds, web page loading (using the New York Times) went from 34 to 15 seconds, while app launching saw time reductions across the board. So -- in essence -- yes, the newest iPod touch is about 50 percent faster than the previous model in terms of performance. what tennis game is that shown in the picture? is it any good?
Good news, i'm really looking forward buying the 64gb version!
The game on the right is Top Gun ($2). I am surprised that the "Danger Zone" HUD didn't give it away :P
Personally I can't wait for Aera, it looks amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_BHMS_Jsmo
Isn't this almost the same as the 3GS. Why would 3GS owners get an iPod that does the same thing? Did anyone hear about any new bt earbuds for this? Looking around I found this site http://www.budsgoblue.com/ but I can't figure out what they are?
Hey, I saw the website for the budsgoblue.com too, but I can't seem to find any more information on them either-looks like a teaser, I guess more info will follow.
all these new gadgets coming out but nothing descent to listen to them with, wireless that is. I was looking for some wireless headphones, tired of the cords. Tried a few but the sound quality isn't great. came across www.budsgoblue.com doesn't give much info. anyone know anything about the bluebuds? or know where i might be able to get some more info? i'm not that good with the internet
Processor wars gettin you down on personal computers? Lets start doing it with PMPs and phones!
I need help and you guys are the smartest forum in the business so here it goes.
I bought a Zune HD yesterday after owning an IPOD touch 1st generation for years and I am not sure if it is just habit but I think I still like the IPOD better. Mostly because of the difference between Itunes and the Zune software. I guess I got use to the many little things that Itunes does. Here are my questions.
1) Does the 3rd generation IPOD sound better than the first Generation because the sound on the Zune HD was amazing.
2) Is it worth the upgrade from 1st gen IPOd to 3rd Gen Ipod
3) Is there another way to manage the Zune HD. Playlist and loading music.
Thank for you help Guys. Sorry if I rambled.
Um, if the web page loads twice as fast, thats a 100% speed improvement, not 50%. :|
ZHD is great for media playback. Superior sound but not by much over the iphone. Iphone still sounds great with good phones and codecs of dl material, and right EQ setting. However Ive used the browser on the ZHD and it pales in comparison to the iphone which is faster, has a much better keyboard, and UI. I have tried both out in sunlight and definitely more reflection on the ZHD, not a major drawback but the iphone is brighter and IMHO a better screen (bigger with more pixels). Still the ZHD is a great pmp and all Apple haters will enjoy it as they should. I still prefer the iphone as it contains all in one device plus a vid recorder, and camera with instant Youtube uploading, etc.
Just to let you know, although the iPhone has more pixels, it's just a non-widescreen 3:2 version of the same resolution as the Zune HD. The pixel density is actually superior on the Zune HD, making everything look crisper. In addition, there's no space between pixels like there is on LCD's so the picture looks smoother. Also, while I'd say the iPhone's browser is better, it's not by much. It's slightly faster than that of the Zune HD but aside from that is pretty well equal.
well, the Zune HD didn´t come with mac-support (according to Gizmodo) so I guess that makes up my mind pretty easily.and i don´t want to install bootcamp or whatever windows on my mac. Ipod touch it is.
This Zune is finally popular enough that somebody will probably bother writing a third party sync tool for Mac finally, but it would be missing a lot of the stuff that makes the Zune great like the subscription music service and artist recomendations. If you're a Mac user, you're probably better off getting an iPod.
It looks like Mav and Goose took the wrong exit off the highway.. the danger zone's THAT way →
I just wanted to point out; your statistical data states the iPod Touch is 100% faster than the original iPod. If you look at your time to load The New York Times, it actually loads over 100% faster. If it was 50% faster, it would of taken 26 seconds to load. Gee whizz...
I had a Zune HD yesterday. Today I have a touch. Sorry guys, but the browsing experience on the new Zune pales in comparison.
Every time I read about the iPod, it's usually about a newer version. I'm afraid to buy one, 'cause then another improved version may come out the next month.
Why can't (or Apple never will!) make a Touch player with a hard drive? For myself, I would rather have the storage for music. Isn't that what Apple first called it? Now it is supposed to be a "game machine". I would rather have 160gigs of space for $250 than wasting $400 on a 64gig Touch. With the $150 saved I could use it for things like a dock, etc. Just how many people are buying it because it is from Apple and not becuase it is really what they need?
I would like to have a touch HD myself. I have an old 160gb iPod (b4 classic), that I use for music on the go, and a 1st gen touch that I use for day to day mobile computing. I will admit that the new 64gb is tempting. I think if I blew off my videos and pictures, most of my music would fit. Maybe I could do only part of my Audible library?
its not a race.i just bought a brand new 8 gig and it plenty fast enough.it load madden 10 fine for me.if you ask me Apple is bumping the speed up alittle at a time to get in the suckers pockets.you know who you are.show me a 10x speed difference and then ill upgrade.
apple website has refurbished 32gb 2g ipod touch for $250.just got my girl one since all she cares about is music.8gb is good for me since all i care about is safari and apps.
Well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Technically the new iPod Touch isn't any faster at all, as a genre. The 32gb and 64gb versions are faster. But the "newly released" 8gb version is the same exact model with some software changes and a minor price drop. Which is odd, because Jobs spoke as if they were targeting a further-reaching audience with the price point, yet they didn't make that version of the Touch their strongest hardware setup. Odd.
I am people who get satisfied sooner. So I like all the brands. I like apple also. By the way why are you so far from liking apple?
