Pentax K-X DSLR pictures and specs leaked?
Playing coy as to which site was culpable, Photo Rumors claims it managed to nab from some page a handful of pictures and specs of a new Pentax K-X DSLR, reportedly set to launch tomorrow. Highlights include a 12.4 megapixel CMOS image sensor with stabilization, 720p / 24 frames per second HD video recording, a 2.7-inch LCD screen, and ISO sensitivity ranging from 100 to 12,800. Consider our interest piqued, but unfortunately we've got no indication when this will see the official light of day -- but with press photos propagating somewhere, we're hoping the waiting isn't too much longer.

Even though I'm a Nikon user, I like Pentax. I tried the K-10D when it came out and was very impressed.
I'd like them to release a full-frame DSLR though....
Totally. I started shooting with a 35mm Pentax and have always liked something about their cameras, I'd love to see them produce a FF DSLR.
All those in favor of FF pentax say "aye"
Looks like a nice upgrade. I've been eyeing the K-7. For me to buy the step down it would need to be 1/2 the price of the K7.
I shoot a Pentax K7. It's an amazing camera.
I've still got some cool Pentax Lenses in the drawer . . . . but my Rebel XS it so much nicer than my K100D was . . .
ZOMG yet ANOTHER DSLR... i like to have choices and all... but isnt there just too many?
Don't you think that if it was a wise financial decision they would have done it already? I assume Pentax has determined that releasing a full-frame DSLR would lose them money. I would much rather have them keep all 53 of you who "wish they would make one" (and probably wouldn't buy one anyway) unhappy than actually producing a FF camera and go out of business.
@damado26
damado26 Similar sentiments, mate. I'm a Nikon shooter, but I love all things Pentax.
While I agree that a FF would be nice, I can understand why they stick with the smaller sensors. All cameras and lenses produces in recent history are designed to maximize these smaller sensors, and allow for a more pocket book friendly upgrade path. Would suck for someone like myself that has a great deal invested in the K20D and newer Pentax lenses. I would have to buy all new gear since the newer lenses won't work with a FF sensor. I am all for Pentax sticking with the smaller sensors and maintaining their record of more bang for the buck than any other DSLR manufacturer.
I myself shoot a Pentax K200D, very nice camera and a great alternative to Canikon.
WHERE THE HELL IS THE ZUNE HD REVIEW??? STUPID GIZMODO REVIEWED A F**KING PMP WITH A LINE ON THE VIDEO QUALITY AND NOT EVEN A SINGLE F**KING WORD ON THE SOUND QUALITY???!!!!!!!
looks exactly the same as the 400D on the back.

Seriously, though... this looks like an ideal street shooter. I'm definitely going to be getting one to back up my K20D. Nice work, Pentax.
And that red version is sexxxy.
Why are we still hanging on to the optical viewfinder? Ditch it and add a larger screen already.
wow, you obviously aren't a photographer. The point of DSLR is the optical view finder lol
You obviously aren't a photographer if you don't know why DSLR's have a viewfinder.
Because it is by far superior to a screen.
I've been hankering for a K-7, myself.
What exactly is the difference between this and the k-7? I had a K10d and loved it. Pentax is like the DSLR underdog that makes a great product but doesn't have quite the following of the bigdogs.
Lens selection is limited too :( Pentax lens do seem to offer better bang for your buck though. I'm looking at the DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 as my new walkaround lens, and it goes for an awesome price ($700!)
I have a K7 and from a quick skim of the specs it looks like the differences are (I'm going by memory on the K7, so I may be wrong):
- 12MP vs. 14MP
- 96% pentamirror vs. 100% pentaprism on viewfinder
- 230kdot LCD vs. 900kdot LCD
Video differences with K7:
they got rid of that weird 1536 x 1024 3:2 ratio video resolution and went with only 720p this time.
Video framerate is now 24p instead of 30p, good for cinematic but would be better if you could choose between both (these specs only mention 24p)
I'd be more skeptical because it has no manual controls in video mode rather than not having 30p as an option.
I got a k10d with 6 lenses from the last 30 years. all work flawlessly. k-mount rocks.
Coming from a Canon Dslr user, I am quite impressed with Pentax cameras.
I was thinking of grabbing the K-7! this seems good too
Got me a K7 last week. When I saw this: "Please let it not be be less than 600 euro?!". But looking at it, this is a whole different segment. Like that it is even smaller, but no top LCD, smaller main LCD, settings probably dumbed down, etc.
Coming from a K10, loving the K7 so far. AF is finally comparable with the Canon/Nikons. The 3 inch screen is gorgeous, feels even better buildwise than the K10, which was pretty good, overall everything is just a bit or lot better.
xxlyyk: The K7's LCD is gorgeous, and this one is just... ugh. 200kdot vs. 900kdot is a *huge* difference. One looks positively like a Game Boy in comparison. You do get what you pay for :S
Could not be happier with my K7 :)
I am sold!
It looks like it's already available for preorder here http://pentaxwebstore.com/product_list.asp?HDR=search&SEARCH=PTXKX
