Video: Creative Zii EGG gets firmware updated to 92.02, still looks pretty janky
Creative's just rolled out a firmware update -- version 92.02, if you're counting -- for developers of the Zii EGG. The updates include adding support for media playback on the SD card, a 3D close line effect for when you're browsing in landscape view, plus a stretching effect for browsing lists. The sample shots taken with its camera look pretty decent, and in the video which is after the break, you can catch a look at both the close line and stretching effect -- the latter of which we think has some potential to be useful, even if it's all still looking a bit rough around the edges for now. Like we said, the video is after the break -- hit the read link for test shots.

yeah, best moment of the video was when he threw that piece of crap aside and pulled the ZHD from nowhere. put everything in proportion for creative, and the rest of us.
This looks exceptionally dated and it isn't even out yet. The iPod touch, Zune HD, Walkman X-Series, and some other players have much more advanced UI's. Yes, I do know this is still in testing but that is no excuse for the interface being that ugly and boring.
The clothes-line thing just looks gimmicky and stupid anyway.
Clothes-line effect. Zzzzz.
Stretching effect at end of list. Zzzzz.
I enjoy SD cards.
That is all.
I will never buy another Creative product, ever.
Some of you are too young to remember the NT4 + SB Live driver fiasco. Yeah, they didn't Q&A their SB Live drivers on NT4 system and hosed the NTFS partition. Back in those days, we didn't have very good recovery tools and Linux LiveCD didn't exist to help us out.
I'm guessing his dad can also beat up our dads, thus we are again proven inferior to him.
Zii Egg sounds like some kind of a german sex toy. Creative has always sucked at marketing their products.
Zii Egg is the codename given to the developer's platform. The consumer version will only be named Creative Zii.
Creative products suck period
AFAIK, their mice aren't bad.
why aren't the geeks demoing their zii apps?
it'll suck if creative's the only one making apps....
or are they waiting for the android firmware before starting developing their own apps?
Of course it's not perfect... How many times did he say it's still just getting developer updates? Somewhere on this site there was an update chart that showed it would continue getting these updates into December, 3 months away, and a finished product probably wont release until January in my opinion. They still have plenty of time to smooth it out.
So Creative, you better do well. I'm wanting to get a PMP and I'm holding out for you. If you don't, well... Sony, here I come. The X and A840 series are looking mighty fine.
They should try and get the main Rockbox devs working on this. Send them a load of free kits or whatever it takes. It's still by far the best interface I've used on any mp3 player. Pity it's probably gonna be left behind as the platforms get more advanced (and harder to hack).
