Video: KORG places an iPhone pocket in its microSAMPLER, calls it a day

The kids over at Korg are a savvy bunch -- they know that the best way to perk up jaded bloggers (such as ourselves) is to somehow attach an iPhone to their device. Unfortunately, what we thought at first glance was an innovative/insane new way to make music on Apple's flagship handset turns out to be, in fact, little more than a sampler with a pocket for your media player and a 1/4-inch audio input. While we have you here, however, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention that, as samplers go, this one is pretty awesome. Featuring a 37-key keyboard, a number of sample modes (including autonext mode, which auto-magically slices a beat into individual hits, not unlike Propellerhead's ReCycle), a preset sound library, 21 KAOS-driven multi-parameter effects, and a USB cable for managing sounds on your Mac or PC (with the included Editor Librarian software), this could be the perfect companion for the microKORG that's already collecting dust in your bedroom. Of course, Korg wouldn't be able to sell this thing at Guitar Center without a heavy-handed, borderline silly promo vid ("Suddenly... you receive a gift... FROM YOUR OWN MIND... in the form of: THE PERFECT BEAT") which we highly suggest you check out after the break. Yours now for $750.

3 iphone post in a row :) , i think its time engadget to beat gizmodo , which has 14 apple posts in their home page
It is eyerolling level nauseating.
Every hole that you can shove an iProduct into becomes a post!
There has got to be someone that is paying attention to the wider news spectrum of tech news out there. I mean, Opera just released an incredible new browser for Blackberry and Windows Mobile. How about doing a post on that?
Better than an iPhone in a Casio keyboard story.
I think the whole point of this post is make fun of Korg for glossing over the actually-cool features of this sampler in favor of the lame iPhone pocket, you know?
The last post was actually about the iPod Touch not the iPhone, but I do get your point.
HA!
Actually have a MicroKORG gathering dust in my room.......
next stop, craiglist
OK so this has NOTHING to do with ipods...you can record from an external device, and they just happen to use a 6 year old ipod. ENOUGH WITH THE APPLE PLUGS ALREADY!!!
also 750 for something that does less things then what you can do with a laptop (which you probally already own if you are a music producer) and 300 dollars + a 50 dollar midi keyboard worth of software seems like a waste of money to me.
Digital Synths are dead...they have no function anymore, software is as powerful as all these digital synths (and are even pretty damn good at emulating analoge ones). Analogue modeling syths still have a place.
Not to mention 6 AA batteries?!? This is the 21st century dammit I want my electronics to be rechargeable...
I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at trader Vic's ... and his hair was perfect
i like this
meh. its kinda ugly
Well, I never thought 'lame' had a sound, but apparently I was wrong.
you've never listened to nickelback?
I've never met a Guitar Center employee who wasn't a deuchebag. They're like the GameStop of musical instruments.
talk about anxiety demo! i feel like im going to throw up!
I guess this machine may come from future mad scientist. Awesome!
Stick the I Am T-Pain app on that iPhone and you will have everything you need to upstage teen country starlets. Oh, you will also need some stupidly large sunglasses.
Now engadget is admitting that they are apple fanboys by stating that they get "perked up" if theres iphone attached to any device.
Its getting pretty irritating now.
Good investigative work, Matlock.
I really dig the minimalistic design. It's surprising that such a sleek design can do so much.
now THATS sarcasm!
If i had spare megahertz, i would give them to you.
Perhaps even an internet.
More Apple posts please.
Ouch this thing is overpriced! As much as I love synths/samples, this one doesn't get me excieted even a bit... Looks and sounds like a toy... Reminds me my Yamaha DJXII
does no one here go on digg?

Is it light?
If I'm reading Korg's microSAMPLER specs right:
Sampling Time: 48 kHz: 160 seconds (mono) per bank; x 8 Banks = 21.33 minutes (max.)
WITH NO MEMORY CARD EXPANSION! for $750 (retail)? That's weak.
Is it any wonder soft synths and samplers are all but swamping hardware sales?
