Lenovo serves up Atom-powered C100 all-in-one desktop for $399
Clearly there's something special waiting for some product manager who gets all of his / her new kit out the door before the fiscal Q4 ends, as Lenovo has been on a serious tear of late. Hot on the heels of its ThinkPad X200, T400s touch and IdeaPad S12 comes this, another all-in-one desktop that should suit the web surfers and email checkers of the world just fine. Starting at $399 (or $50 less than the similar IdeaCentre C300), this rig is equipped with an 18.5-inch LCD, a two-inch thick chassis, Intel's Core 230 or Core 330 CPU, a DVD burner, four USB sockets, GMA950 integrated graphics, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB (5400RPM) hard drive and Windows XP running the show. Something tells us these will be flying off the shelves come Christmastime.

I'm waiting for Radeon HD3200 + AMD dual core nettop
Could this computer sync a Zune HD? If only there was some type of review....
Make mine a nv8400 or nv9400.
Although this thing would already make a nice dandy all-in-on media center machine.
what ever... I can still remember when $399 was the price for just an 18.5 inch LCD. that is an awesome deal...
You might want to consider Lenovo's C300 offer for US$550.. it doesn't look as sexy as the C100, but at this price I would certainly buy one.. if they sold those in Europe :'-(
It has much better specs:
Atom 330
Windows Vista Home Premium (e.g. Free Windows 7)
ATI HD 4530 M92-M+ (way better than the HD3200 afaik)
4 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz
20.0 " All In One FHD with integrated camera 1.3M 1600x900
640GB 7200
For some reason in the website the C100 is listed for US$500 instead of US$400.
its soooo pretty, just not the specs part.
do you get a free w7 upgrade if you buy a computer with xp? i thought it was just vista.
Your right, it is just vista:)
Just Vista I think :/
The only way you can get a free Win7 upgrade with XP is if it was a downgrade with Vista rights. So technically no.
Ahhh everyone is always "waiting" for something like Ion or dual core cpus or 1080p processing....we are losing sight of what netbooks are!
They are supposed to be small machines that you do basic stuff with and are CHEAP.
It seems like everyone wants a notebook in a netbook chassis for under $300. It aint gonna happen.
I was annoyed when manufacturers switched to 10" screens. These are meant to be SMALL machines, why are you making them bigger??!!
*happily typing this on my 9" screen with my tiny keyboard with my atom processor and gma950 gfx card Dell Mini9*
Oh and as for the story, thats one sexy nettop! Lenovo has some really nice stuff.
Watching YouTube IS a basic function and the Atom CPU sucks for that, which is the reason why I haven't bought one yet. Netbooks, yes, are for small stuff and I don't expect it to have 100 tabs open, but it'll struggle with even basic stuff now with a modern OS (I'm not going to bother going back to Windows XP after using Windows Vista or Windows 7)
My discrete "1080p capable" video card cost me 30 bux.
This is not some bleeding edge expensive feature we're talking about.
Meanwhile, this is a machine that is engineered specifically to have
a "lesser" CPU. So adding something that does CPU offloading of
something that is specifically CPU intensive would not be a bad thing
to do.
There's already hardware out there that does this and is pretty cheap already.
If Revos were on sale in my part of the world I would already have 1 or 3.
now thats a nice looking home PC. for everyday use with kids it seems perfect. Less clutter. Might have to pick this up if it looks as good and performs well in stores.
Can't they offer something similar but with a Core 2 Duo and Windows 7 instead?
Agreed... I don't understand why I would want a full blown desktop that is this weak just to save $100 or so....
they do...
I don't necessarily see this as a good thing. I think some people will pick this up thinking they're getting a great deal due to the slick form factor, but 1GB of ram, the Atom, and especially the GMA 950 are really weak sauce for $399. People are going to get hoodwinked due to the size and not realize just how slow the Atom is, even the dual core. If form factor isn't that huge of a concern:

Completely blows it away in every category, and comes with Vista HP to boot, not an 8-year old OS. You could also pick up an Aspire slimline desktop if you don't want full size for not much more.
The rush to slap Atom into ever conceivable form factor is getting ridiculous.
I think this is more for the space minded individuals (i.e. kitchen pc, or small apartment)

Despite what the naysayers say, for the price and form factor / design, this is a really good machine. The GMA graphics kill it for me but when we see this form factor and this price point with an ION-esque graphics subsystem I'll be buying one.
Why does the Lenovo site have these on sale for $499?
Death to GMA950!
So it's basically a netbook masquerading as an All-in-one?
Where is it for $399??? Everywhere I looked are $499
I saw an emachine with similar specs at Best Buy last week. I thought it looked pretty sweet, especially for the price. It was cheaper than my MSI Wind. I almost pulled the trigger on it for my mom to replace her iMac G4 that died. The specs concerned me from a long term perspective and it was XP. I wanted something with Leopard so I could take control of her machine and fix issues that crop up with her. Also, we do video iChat and that machine did not have a web cam. At the end of the day, the specs concerned me the most. All she does is email and web, but video is becoming a big component of the web and this probably does that pretty poorly. I know my Wind does not handle video too well. I am sure this Lenovo is pretty much the same.
