I duno about the faces/voices for blogging :P I think Josh (I've only watched 5-6 mins as its streamling like crap..) remark.
But I agree as far as the podcast goes, Its actually quite annoying to listen to, they spend too much time talking over eachother, like 50% of a conversation is two people talking at once!
The show so far, actually looks pretty good, and i'm thinking part of the talking-over problem, is that you've got two people condensed into one sound source, with no ability to really differentiate between them, it just becomes noise, but with video, I think the round-table discussion should be alright, I think as individuals they're not bad as presenters, Josh pulls off the presenter thing perfectly.
I might feel different when I'm done watching this next month I suppose..
Here we go!!!
Chad Mumm, we related? :P
Love the intro-movie by the way!
Am I allowed to rip this and distribute it?
@ispartan:
Who cares?! This is history, man; I'm rippin!
Oh wait... only 85 - 110 kb/s. Forget it.
Palm Posts Loss Amid Pre Launch
Palm Inc.'s fiscal first-quarter loss - its ninth in a row - widened as retail sales of its smart phones fell despite the launch of its new Pre model.
The wireless-device maker also announced plans to sell 16 million shares to raise cash and bolster its balance sheet. At current prices, the offering would add about $250 million.
The wireless-device maker said smart-phone shipments totaled 823,000 units in the period ended Aug. 28, up 30% from a year earlier. Smart phones sold to retail customers totaled 810,000 units, down 21%.
Palm has been banking on its Pre device, which was released with Sprint Nextel Corp. in June on a new operating system called webOS, to regain traction. It didn't break out sales of the Pre but research firm Morgan Joseph estimated roughly 500,000 Pre units sold in the quarter, which was below its expectations.
Palm Chief Executive Jon Rubinstein, a former Apple Inc. executive who took over the job in June, said the company is making "significant progress" with its transformation and launching more Palm webOS products with more carriers.
Palm is a pioneer in the smart-phone market but has failed to keep up with Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry line and Apple Inc.'s iPhone. Last week, the company cut the price of Pre by $50. Palm will also soon launch the Pixi, a less-expensive smart phone.
For the quarter ended Aug. 31, Palm reported a loss of $161.1 million, or $1.17 a share, compared with a loss of $39.5 million, or 39 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue dropped 82% to $68 million, in part because Palm doesn't book all the revenue from the Pre upfront.
Palm had $211.8 million in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments at the end of the quarter.

Don't worry Paul, I like touchscreen keyboards better, faster typing. We will see when it comes to the storm 2 though.
THe funniest part is in 13:45.... LMAO
The first ever engadget torrent!!!! HD version:
http://nixil.net/engadget_show_001.torrent
It has an on screen keyboard and its arranged in the same questionable pattern as the hardware one.
Also repeat after me, Mi-Mo, thats how the Finns say it.
Engadget needs to get this show into Fios Video On Demand
Hi everyone I found young Angelina Jolie's sex tape is here:
http://cli.gs/-sexy-Angelina-Jolie
Hell Yeaaah!
I really like the opening video!!
Oddly enough, it reminds me of the Zune HD commercials...
http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/16/zune-hd-commercial-hits-major-selling-points-forgets-to-include/
180 opinion here...could do much better.
It reminds me a little bit of the OS X install vid (Y'know; Welcome, Bienvenidos, etc.)
Awesome. Can't wait to watch.
It'd be great if the stage was lit properly.
Agreed, it really was a good show, but the Palm CEO was sitting in the dark. The spot' on Josh was also VERY hot. Put a gel on that thing!
I know you guys will work out the kinks, but I just wanted to give you the heads up on that stuff.
IT was awesome. Wish I had a ticket to get that touchstone :-\
I asked this question before but don't think I ever got an answer: On the Zune Marketplace and iTunes is this going to be a video podcast or will it be in the actual video marketplaces?
Podcast!
Cool beans, thanks Josh!
I would also like to see this, please put this on both services (so I can watch on my beautiful Zune HD).
I like your comments most of the time but cool beans mark. Seriously? cool beans?
@Kris120890: Haha, I got halfway through writing this shortly after my reply to Josh and then decided against it but now I guess I have to:
"That's right, I said it. Cool beans. Deal with it."
i was there boooyak!
I love how a simple one-word post from Josh can be upvoted to high heaven.
Sweet! http://twitpic.com/hm480
could you add the runtime to the post Josh? thanks
awesome show guys! really enjoyed it and glad to hear that the pre is coming to the EU before the holidays
maybe import that thing from Germany when it's out
Is there gonna be an rss feed specific to the Engadget Show?
Who did your open? I like it.
Jizzed in my pants. Downloading all 1.6 GB now. Nice opening too.
1.6GB....geez! is this a test? Do you know how much i can accomplish on the internet with that....i luv you guys(engadget) but not that much :)
Hopefully in the future, Engadget will scale back the bandwidth of the video. The iPod/Zune version is over 700MB. That's enough for around 2 hours of DVD-quality video using H.264, and I'm sure the show is not 2 hours long.
Torrent?
700mb is nothing, nice quality. It be rough if they scaled back.
Is it possible to get the podcast in lower quality because 1.6Gig is way too much!
We're upping a smaller file now!
Thanks a lot!
Too bad they're using a shitty format.
I actually liked the high-res version quite a bit. Downloaded it directly to my Popcorn Hour A-110 and watched on my big Sammy. I wasn't so impatient to watch it so the 30min download didn't really bug me. Now as far as the content.. well, I suppose there's a market for that.
It downloaded really fast for me... ~7mb/s.
Is the live podcast on today??
We're doing the live podcast tomorrow -- our schedule has gotten bumped around a little. We'll be back on track next week.
Thanks for that
Make sure you dont delete it this time! ;)
Yeah use a PC this time. Just kidding.
I just geekasmed..
Everywhere.
Jizzed in my pants. Downloading all 1.6 GB now. Nice opening too.
Why don't girls ever write about what happened in their pants? That would be nice.
Who made that intro music and video ?? It's AMAZING !
Crap lighting..
Looking forward to this.
Glad you mangaged not to 'lose' the footage on this one. ;)
Dude! The file is 1.6GB!!!
Jeez - I had the same thought!
Is it THAT pretty? Give us a low-fi version!
Ah - scratch that - there's a 700MB one at least...
you guys are awesome :D
(and when the blue hedgehog says you're awesome, you bet you're ass it's true)
Damm you rubbish engadget commenting system!!!!!! this was supposed to be a reply to the dude who said both the show and the podcast sucked... I can't even find the post now..
ARRRGH...
Come on engadget! Ditch this crappy blogsmith media crap, get something decent to run this awesome awesome website on!!
Nice Work
Really great work, guys! The video/audio is excellent as is the content. I'm seriously enjoying it. Please keep this up!
Will you guys post a link once this is in iTunes? Or will it be distributed with the Engadget Podcast feed?
Really slow download.
This is taking an age to download it start off with 1mbit per second now its only 200kb per second I have a 50 Meg connection. it should take minutes not 1hr 12mins
it took me about 40 mins to complete with max 600 KB/s while my max downloadspeed is 2 MB/s
I'm now downloading at 1.2mb compared to 40kb a minute ago.
took mine about 5 minutes.... but i do everything at supersonic speeds so i dont really count
and now I'm back down to 230kb. Fluctuating speeds I guess. Oh and gizmodo have provided a link to the video.
This is ridiclous 1 second its running a 1megabit per second and next minute it 72kb per second................... HELP!!!!!!
Where was the monolgue?
My 3g internet is having a heart attack. Don't think I'll be able to watch until the smaller file comes out. Sweet opening though scene. And the quality of the video is fantastic.
Sweet the smaller one just came up.
Wow, it only took josh twelve minutes to dis his show's sponser............
3 and half hours to go.
Now all you guys have to do is light your guests better!
Damn comment system.
Where is my PSP version.
lol fail
Is the mobile formatted one 16x9? Downloading now, just a little impatient...
how do u download it
whenever i click the link it just takes me to a screen where i can watch it
Right click on the link - save link as- and choose destination (file path)- download.
I don't like this Josh's interview style. Sounded quite condescending at times. Not a good way to start off the show.
Vidder? Really?
Did he really just goof on nokia 13 minutes into them sporsoring the show.
*Viddler
Uploading this to Youtube instead of (or in addition to) Viddler would be nice.
I don't suppose anybody who already downloaded it can torrent it? Or perhaps Engadget themselves can make a torrent (it's nice to use the technology for things which aren't illicit).
Every time I try to download the file, it gets about 60 megs or so down and then dies (although I can only imagine the number of people trying to get it right now).
Its interesting that Rubinstein didn't seem to know or care about the pixi cpu. I mean as long as the thing works who cares.
1.6GB or 700MB Download for a one time only watch = How about no AND Viddler = EPIC FAIL.

Eh the cocky attitude from the host ruined the show.
:/
Are you kidding?
@bibhnarp I totally agree.
The interview style was way too condescending. You start out proclaiming him for what he's done at apple - it then turns into pure apple fanboy. If it weren't for him - would you be enjoying your iPhone and iPods of the past?
The guy has got his back up against the wall, starting from scratch trying to innovate and all you can do is complain about wifi, where he gets his employees, what price points he's planing and prodding him about Palm vs. Apple. He shouldn't have thanked you at the end and kept the touchstones to give to charity.
If it were steve jobs would you ask him about over priced product? locking out google? stealing from BSD? Probably not. I liked the quality of the show, but look forward to a different host.
Gave up on watching it. Can't stand the guy. Incredibly irritating, constantly interrupts, bad attitude. In the grand scheme of things, Jon Rubenstein is a million times cleverer than a blog editor and Josh should understand that and let the guy actually speak.
I'm sure no-one else will sign up to do this if they watched this show, as it just seems to be a vehicle for Josh's ego to go crazy on.
Face it, you get a CEO of a company, even a slightly struggling company like Palm, onto the show, you're the one who should show respect.
Another thing I was turned off by was the way they were handling the N900 and praising capacitive screens like the savior. I mean, have they even ever used a resistive screen? Do they have any sort of idea of how they work? They work by two surfaces touching each other, and to make two surfaces touch eachother, you need to apply force. Apply force as in, push your finger into the screen a bit.
I guess you didn't use any resistive screens before the jesusphone arrived and indoctrinated you with ignorance.
Get lost that was cool
I feel exactly the same way... I suppose Josh didn't want the interview to just turn into nothing but praise, but the result was something pretty inappropriate. I mean, I thought it was a really nice move by Jon Rubinstein, not only to go to a startup show hosted by somebody inexperienced, but also giving away free products (even that was nearly spoiled by Josh). And I think he deserves a lot of respect for the way he handled Josh's tactless questions.
Another point: I mean, no offense to Josh, he's great at writing these blogs, but as a host, I think he got a lot of things wrong. When Mr Rubinstein answered his questions, Josh looked at his cards and didn't give any feedback whatsoever. What you have to do as a host (maybe unless your interviewing a politician ;-) ) is make your guest feel at ease, not make him uncomfortable by appearing unimpressed by what he says and dropping snide remarks left right and centre, which of course Mr Rubinstein couldn't really defend himself against.
Despite all of this, it was nice to see Palm getting some coverage - somehow, the pre and WebOS have slipped my mind a little, probably because they just don't get as much coverage as Android and, of course, the iPhone's OS.
