$199 Nintendo Wii spotted in Best Buy ad?

First there was an alleged Toys R Us ad, and now we've caught wind of what's claimed to be a Best Buy spot showing the Nintendo Wii getting that long-desired $50 price drop, down just below the two Benjamin mark. Easily Photoshopped image? You betcha, so we'll just have to play wait-and-see as the evidence seems to mount up -- it's been a long time coming, after all, we wouldn't be that surprised given the oncoming holiday season and the recent downward trend in demand.

na, Wii is great for the non gamer / casuals but for this core gamer; x360 / PS3 FTW! no cod2 or uncharted2 or ac2 = a sad sad holiday lineup for the wii

Well at least it will be a $200 lesson to gamers instead of a $250 one. Anyone who has a 360 or ps3 and buys one of these thinks its great for about the first month and then suddenly the wii will just sit there for months at a time. Whenever you end up playing a new game its on your 360 and you wonder why you even bought the wii.

My local Sears in Sacramento, CA ran a weird add when the Wii came out. it was kinda a secret i guess(mom found it). but it was that the first 10 people who went to this place in the store and ask about the promo got lil tickets to go to another spot in the store. and we got 2 of em(my mom and i) and we got our Wiis for $150 each. sold one to a friend for 250, heh.

Not the electronics place by me, small non-corporate place makes like $50-60 off each console sale, selling at the same price Best Buy or Walmart or whoever does... Not sure how your store only gets $5 or $6 off consoles.

Oh, and I agree, $199 is still a bit high considering the recent drops of the other two heavy hitters.

Wait...I got my Wii back in the day, first couple months, and I only paid $199.99. That came w/ one controller + Wii sports, then I got Wii Play for the extra controller.

Why do websites keep posting these "PRICE CUT SPOTTED!" articles over and over again...we KNOW the Wii will be seeing a price drop. It isn't really shocking news. We know it'll probably come before the holidays to compete with the other price drops too...big deal

And to be frank, there's little reason the Wii should cost more than a Gamecube plus the price of a Wiimote.

For now I say fake. Best Buy gets the ads into the store on Tuesday for the next Sunday. This is the week after and Tuesday for this ad is 5 days away. This would have to be leaked by someone higher up or the printer. You will have to wait until next Tuesday to confirm this story.

They may recieve the adds the Tuesday before, but they will have the adds planned out months in advance. I worked in a small town grocery store, yes, different type of market, but we had sales planned out for almost the entire summer, nothing unreasonable about an electronics add leaked 2 weeks early.

ATTENTION SHOPPERS: sorry, but there is always fine print in every deal that looks too good to be true. And while I can't squint enough to make out the FINE PRINT under the price, I can only guess that it does not come with either a game or a controller. I'm guessing the latter, since there appears to be even more fine print (yes, even more) above the wii remote, seemingly pointing down to it. All this can be yours for just an additional $___!!!

Wii is a failure. People are beginning to realize this, thus not buying it anymore. It really is a bad console. I bought one in 2007, was incredibly excited about it for the first day or so. Then it sat in front of my sdtv for a year+. I finally got a 40 in sony bravia LCD and decided to hook the old boy up to it, I was truly disgusted at the picture...it looked like an n64. Now I just stick to my PS3/360, I gave my wii to my sister.

Hello? You guys.... The print below the price said Nintendo Wii SYSTEM!!! So it would problbly only include the wii itself, but the prices will problably drop by Christmas so it's no biggie, but they should also make a black system... ;)
