LG New Chocolate BL20 makes dramatic video debut

We've already had a pretty clear indication that LG was about to followup its stylish BL40 Chocolate Touch with a slightly lower-end BL20 model, but it looks like any doubt has now been cast aside by a just-revealed promo video, which shows off the new New Chocolate phone in all its swishing and swooping glory. That includes a brief look at the phone's sliding keypad (it's red), a quick once over of LG's various widgets, confirmation of a 5-megapixel camera, and a look a somewhat unique feature called Text Scan, which promises to let you capture clear images of notes or memos (though it doesn't seem to provide actual character recognition). But enough with the words -- there's two minutes of sound effects and visual overload after the break.

The sound effects are ridiculous!
yes, that's the selling point.
Holy crap I felt like I was in a movie and I was chained up and about to split in half by an evil genius' laser, until I pulled out my BL-20 and countered the laser and broke free from my chains. Next using the flash camera to shoot hyper-flash beams at the henchman, killing them instantly. Then in a desperate escape once the evil genius' laser exploded causing a systemic malfunction resulting in an impeding explosion, I slid the BL-20 up and dialed #, resulting in me and to phone to break through the window at mach speed, escaping the explosion, apparently saving the day and subsequently getting the girl at the end on a random island.
This vision has been brought to you by Michael Bay.
For whatever reason, this video reminded me of the older, full Flash-based websites that were so popular in the late 90's/early 00's. Every movement and transition had those crazy sound effects. This one has been around forever and pretty much explains what I mean: http://www.eye4u.com/home/
@zune sucks were you dropped as baby, lost a school yard fight, or you just naturally dumb? Because, the iPhone is not for everyone, and neither is this.
I'm thinking all three.
Uhm, who will get this when for (hopefully) a few bucks more they can get that oh so sexy, chocolate-y BL40?
They should have used cyborg mode to record this.
They are still making slider phones? Why?
Because every touch screen phone is called an iPhone ripoff
Cause not everyone likes flip phones.
I personally love the candy bar form factor, and would love to get my hands on a pixie...
Sliders are nice too, as long as their sturdy and are thin, cause I carry my phone in my pocket.
They spent WAAAAAAY too much money on the ad for it to be a verizon phone, that's for sure.
Can anyone tell me how I can solve my cell phone dilemma?
I Live in Korea but korean phones don't have full English menus. They have cursory, surface features in English but most sections of the interface are in Korean only. Also the software that you install on your PC is only in Korean (i don't allow any korean language functions on my pc or even western web sites go haywire with korean fontage). On top of that Korean phones don't let the mp3 format work.
How do get a good quality phone that can be jail broke so that i can still use it here but with an English menu and free function?
rosetta stone?
Get a smartphone and a English ROM for that OS. Smartphones in Korea are mostly Windows Mobile, so it shouldn't be that hard to just buy one and load up a korean ROM on it.
Or you could just study Korean and get better at it since you're there already! lol
Please BL 40 come to verizon...and if not the LG Crystal and if not i guess i can settle for the HTC TP2 :D
they probably spent more on the ad compared to the phone.
thankfully they didn't leave any space for VZW logo.
And the older chocolate they used was the Original chocolate phone not the cheapo VZW (to be exact, VZW exclusively lauched) chocolate.
Goliath online!
Damn... still no Android... -_-u
I think you mean WinMo :)
That thing has text scan?!
I never though of that on a cellphone but it's genius.
it's been done. it was on the Sony Ericsson P1i
Looks a lot like the Sharp Willcom 03. Except this runs LG's dumbOS.
As an iphone user I must admit that looks pretty slick. The message of minimalist design is relevant to my interests. But, as always, I question how smooth the actual functionality is.
I made a funnier video of the LG Chocolate BL40: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mjuD__WtxM
"hidden navigation buttons" translates to crappy buttons
It looks nice.
They Sure know how to impress with their presentations. The BL-40 was as flashy in that regard.
if i would have to buy a feature phone TODAY (owner of a htc hero with the newest rom update) i would have a hard time deciding which one to get... i talking LG BL40 or BL20 here, i tried the BL40 and loved the split view for mails, the bl20 beeing a slider is sexy too...
does anyone else think, beside me, that LG really did an awesome job since they came out with their first KU990?
I don't think that advert looked that bad. Just looks like a relatively stylish slim phone. I think LG phones have improved significantly over the last couple of years, May even be tempted to get one at some point.
Nokia on the other hand have let me down with the quality of their phones.
two years to late !
