Point Grey puts USB 3.0 into a webcam, along with other telltale signs of over engineering
We kid, we kid. We're sure it was totally necessary to put SuperSpeed USB 3.0 into this new desktop video camera to push uncompressed 1080p, 60 fps video to a computer. According to Point Grey, that unbridled bandwidth allows the camera to offload compression duties to the computer and allows for spiffy applications like face recognition and a general level of uncompressedness. At the heart of this camera is a 3 megapixel Sony IMX036 CMOS sensor, but we'll have to wait until IDF next week to get the lowdown on the rest of this camera's crazy ways -- and sure-to-be-crazy price.

would look very nice on my telscope, even the right colour
Currently worldwide USB 2.0 is only in use. Honestly I have also never used USB 3.0. I have only read it on news and blogs. Hope the prices of this super speed gadget gets reduced and make them available at online stores.

Subtle. But you are still a cock.
That webcam actually looks awesome.
If my computer supported usb 3.0 and i could afford it, i would get that webcam.
Won't be long before USB3 PCIE cards hit the stores surely? I mean not even the very latest intel (the USB lovers) chipsets have USB3, there HAVE to be expansion cards soon.
I see this being great for a home hacked gesture recognition Minority Report style interface.
I enjoy how people are so excited about the webcasting potential of this webcam due to USB 3.0 but last time I checked our internet pipelines aren't keeping up. It'll still be a sub-par experience.
That's just because the inter-tubes are all clogged up with gambling chips, race horses and porn. Nothing a little innovative plumbing can't fix.
