HTC Leo spotted once again, friends call it "HD2"
This new Leo hotness from HTC sure is making the rounds, and we certainly can't get enough of it. Its latest appearance shows the handset from some sexy angles, but also gives us a new tidbit to chew on: the Bluetooth menu identifies the phone as the HD2. So, is this the much-rumored successor to the Touch HD, or an absolutely gorgeous impostor? We'd venture a guess, but we're too busy longing for that 4.3-inch capacitive LCD to care.

HTC Leo will be dead when MS Project Pink arrives!
I don't think so. It seems to breath new life into winmo. I think that microsoft might produce a consumer OS/phone line and still keep developing WinMo, not destroy it.
Why would MS kill the best mobile business OS on the market when it is getting this good? HTC has done more than a bang up job with this one. If I was buying a smart phone (at any price point) I would have to say this looks to be the best combination of specs, OS and form factor I have ever seen.
oh great. Here we go again. Ignorant fanboy attitude's towards things nobody knows anything about except OLED and Tegra. In the past it worked out well, this will make it even worse.
@daniel
When buttons let people browse web pages as close as possible to the desktop experience?
I like buttons and all, but touch screen's benefits outweigh the weaknesses, imo.
even pink will run some kind of winmo or ce so why the hell would it kill the leo? Its like killing your own brother....stupid fanboy
I thought most of the handset companies were dumping Windows Mobile for Android. Microsoft should just wait until Windows 7 is ready and stop development of Windows 6.x. That Touch HD has some nice hardware, but it should be running Android instead. WinMo is losing market share by leaps and bounds and not likely to see any resurgence until late next year, if ever.
You know, I'm still waiting for the day that Engadget someone invests a magical software to detect and repel fanboyism and kick 'em all out. That's the day when we'll have a clean and smoooooooooth internet.
Daniel - stop using your phone when driving, jackass
Arrg.. Hardware is as good as software. Hence, WinMo device has become irrelevant.
Just tell me where to buy it in Taiwan! Will be there....
Peanut butter Jelly time!
OMG such screenism! Why do you constantly plug capacitive touch screens? It's like Apple all over again. Resistive is just as good, it's just different! Duh!

I prefer resistive to be honest! Capacitive glass is always so 'sticky'... and you have to take your glove off to use it in the winter! Resisitive... no problem: use whatever you like to poke that screen! You can even stick a scratch-resistant coating on it.
Nobody knows for sure if this is capacitive! It can also be a multi touch resistive screen, since HTC filed some patents in that area and there were some demos of that tech in the recent past (not by HTC though)!
who uses gloves in the winter?
HTC's latest patent was for CAPACITIVE TOUCH THAT WORKS WITH GLOVES ETC....
Who are you people that stand out in the cold weather using your phone? We aren't talking just answering a call either cause you could do that with a non touch button. There must be many of you resistive touch lovers that spend long amounts of time outside texting or something. I live in the third snowiest city in the US, this doesn't seem to be a problem here. Why is it where you live? Or is that the best reason you rehash everytime. Please pick a new reason now because HTC has created capacitive touch that works with gloves or a stylus.
Capacitive or resistive, that screen is HUGE... comparatively with others on the market.
JT, Perry has a good point. I don't know what kind of little box you live in, but a lot of the world is cold in the winter. It really is a pain to have to take off a glove to answer your iPhone. I understand why Apple did it, but there really should have been more dedicated buttons on the iPhone. HTC has a way of providing traditional buttons as well as a big touchscreen. I hope they stick to that.
Oh yes, considering how much we all know about Pink.
Just...revel in the awesomeness of this, okay?
Battery life please? what's the fun playing 1 hr clip/music/ touching buttons/screen when not able to make calls!
Toshiba TG01 have the same hardware (more or less)...so I guess one can use it to get a hint at Leos battery life.

Looks like an awesome handset... yes, but
windows mobile is an overly flawed OS period. It's built on the same junk Microsoft has been recycling for years
OS X mobile
Android
web OS
RIM BB
all solid, and all good choices. Especially Android for this guy. HTC finally has a chance to get some horsepower behind android. Which I think we all would have loved
Oh, just call it iPhone OS! "OS X Mobile" just sounds pretentious.
so does correcting someone about pointless apple terminology
so does scolding someone about correcting someone about pointless terminology
I wish that there was a filter button that allows me to block comments that are made by people who simply love to hate. Please stop the hate comments, they are getting old.
Yes, WinMo fails, but HTC has replaced it so much with TochFlo that the software is almost decent, but unuseable on say a TouchPro 2 because of the resistive touchscreen. But with capacive, it would at least be in the same ballpark as Android/WebOS/iPhone Os. And it does win in one way, which is that you can download browsers with flash, and or opera mini. And as the commenter above said, call it iPhone OS. Even apple calls it that now.
so does...
Its actually called (by Apple)
Core OS
I just got a TP2. The screen is fantastically responsive.
The good thing is... that screen is huge!
The bad thing is... the device is even huger!
Oh, the trade-offs!
You know, maybe people here need to learn to look at the device's size, before they post all those "its to big" comments.
I have been comparing it to a Dell x50v PDA, what is perfectly pocket able.
x50: 119 x 73 x 17 mm
Leo: 121 x 67 x 11 mm
Yes, the Leo is 2mm longer, but! Its 6mm less width, and 6mm less think! Thats almost a difference off 1/3 less think. And the x50v can be perfectly placed in a pocket. That means that this device, is even more easy.
The reason why people keep acting rather stupid, and keep yelling "its to big", is because off a wrong perception.
* The device is not so curved as most devices. And the curving makes most a pda/whatever look smaller.
* The screen is 4.3", with very little to the side. Because we are all so used that a device has a large bezel, or whatever its called, people see the screen, yet, they only focus on the screen, and think its to large because they compare it in there minds with other devices, with a large wasted side.
So, unless everybody out there has child hands, its perfectly holdable. We will probable see the size problem mentioned in reviews, where they will state the same thing. Looks bigger then it actually is ( just what every guy likes to hear hahaha ).
*Uch*
This comment was for "Caleb B" with his "This phone is way too big!" post. Stupid reply system.
also, the iphone 3G(S) is 115.5 x 62.1. x 12.3 mm. so the Leo isn't much larger than that, but you get a screen that's nearly an inch bigger.
@Benjiro
Um, it's nice that you're calling people stupid for stating their opinion. Just because you throw out some dimensions doesn't mean that this device isn't too big in some peoples' OPINIONS. Maybe I think you're stupid for saying it's perfectly five. Wait no I don't, because I respect peoples' opinions unlike you. This device IS rather large compared to most phones, whether or not it can FIT in your pocket isn't the question. We're talking about size related to the common phone.
EDIT: Perfectly fine*.
Yeah...this thing is looks pretty freaking awesome.
At least you'll be able to make one or two calls before the battery goes dead, but you'll be looking good when it happens.
On a side-note, why am I dead again????
When the 5800 came out, they said the iPhone is dead. When I came out they said the 5800 was dead. When the Leo came out, they said I was dead. Now that there is news about Microsoft Project Pink, they say the Leo is dead.
The fuck is everyone so horny about watching phones "die"? I figure we grow up for 6 seconds, and not jack-off too much on specs and pictures...please?
because I don't wanna die =(....
People need to stop treating phones like Highlander. There can be more than 1, people!!!
so does correcting someone about pointless terminology
Can haz android?
Its a shame they didnt stuff a xenon flash into that behemoth. LED is crap, it struggles to adequately light up a square foot.
This phone is way too big!
I had iPhone and iPhone 3G, they were very nice, but after about a year, the battery starts dying and there is no way you can change it yourself, Apps are a joke! Sound quality is crap when you plug it to a decent audio player (I have a Harman/Kardon Receiver at home and Rockford Fosgate system in my car), now I bought HTC Hero, the phone is very solid but the OS is a big mess, Apps are crappier than the iPhone, ADS every where and it is boring!! I used to love SonyEricsson symbian phones, owned P800 and P900 and P1, but you know, Symbian :-S!!
Now I really want to go back to WinMo with it is lag, stylus and small buttons, but at the end of the day, it is the best mobile OS out there!
I think its great that the phone has a removeable battery, with it running windoze, every time it freezes you HAVE to remove it to reboot, the number one reason I dumped my HTC
@GeekGirl: +1. It sucks that that freaking douche of a company started the idiotic trend that is "non-removable batteries". Oh well, corporations will be corporations, right?
Funny, when my WinMo device (Kaiser) has an issue, I use the reset button...
Excellent phone with excellent specs and UI, problem... too big, I think 4.3" is overkill , a screen around 3.5" would have been better.
I always thought 4" was the perfect size.
You know typing on the iPhone's 3.5" is hell =/.
