New Android Market finds its way into latest Cyanogen ROM
Can wait to check out the new and improved Android Market slated for inclusion in the upcoming Android 1.6 release? Then it looks like you won't have to wait for the official release after all. You will, however, need a rooted Android device, and the latest, less-than-official Cyanogen ROM. Among other updates and fixes, it includes what appears to be the very same Android Market revision that's headlining Android 1.6 (a.k.a. Donut), and includes such enhancements as a bright new look, screenshots of apps, and a number of new browsing options to help you find what you're looking for. All rooted and ready to go? Then hit up the link below to get started.

I did root my phone, but I found it to be no use. Even with 1.6, the G1 was way too laggy, though the market was nice. I downgraded to RC29, which is my favorite. Real quick charges, okay battery life, fast speed and a nicer interface or more... "original".
Cyangon builds are not laggy!
You have to be doing something wrong, which probably means you didn't do a wipe beforehand.
Cyanogen rom's are the complete opposite of laggy. You did something wrong.
I wiped, did everything correctly.
does anyone know what APN settings i need for the G1 to use the t-zones? i'm not on the internet much on my phone so i don't want to pay the extra charges for faster internet speed. i'm able to get onto t-zones from my HTC and nokia phones.
I'll chime in that I also saw much much better performance from Cyanogen's ROM than stock android.
I was in a similar situation, not noticing any speed gain at all from rooted ROMS. However I just switched back to Cy's latest experimental ROM and it is actually noticeably snappier than any previous ROM I've used.
I highly suggest retrying it, it's well worth it.
I just wiped and installed the latest cyanogen rom and its nothing short of lightning. You must be installing too many fart apps.
Also, make sure to download cm updater. Does all the hard work for ya. Loving the new market place, quite the improvement.
@Malikye, i believe the apn for t-zones might be internet2.voicestream.com. Not sure if that still works on G1's. Had the web2go
plan, but always got blocked by tmobile. Guess they use the imei to determine web access for G1's these days.
I thought 1.5 was donut?
That was cupcake...
Hahah
You think you're confused now? Between Google and myself, nobody will ever spell the word doughnut correctly again! ;)
I propose that "doughnut" is an antiquated spelling and the only correct way to spell it in modern language is "donut"
Really this is so last week!!
They could possibly have a better looking GUI - Purple / Lavender just aren't doing it...
It's actually gray.
Oh, well then. That's much better. (Why can I never respond to a response on my comments?)
You respond to yourself to keep it in context. Otherwise you look like your talking to thin air.
For all you Android folks out there I'm just curious:
I have the latest Evil Hero ROM (2.73) on my myTouch and it seems alright in terms of speed but I still seem to have the most common Hero ROM problems; Bluetooth will connect but no audio will stream (neither media nor voice) and my notifications are not properly working referring to both audio and LED (although vibration works).
If anyone can recommend their favorite 32B Hero ROM, I would greatly appreciate it, preferably with audio notifications working!
I don't think there is any MOD HERO ROM that has proper working LED and Bluetooth...
WINDOWS MOBILE 6.5 AND 7.
You're an ass...
What are the lamest mobile OS's ever?
I'll take Engadget topics for $300 Alex.
tried it out the new market on 4.1.11.1 and indeed was better
then flashed back to 4.0.4
waiting on the next stable release from Cyanogen
Very soon :)
Was there any improvement in searching or app discovery or is this purely a visual facelift?
It was a little zippier, but I did the same thing (flashed 4.11.1 and went back to 4.0.4) because of functionallity issues.
Keep in mind this build is NOT YET STABLE , i tried it, had lots of problems, went back to 4.0.4
i liked it went back to ion though applications VANISHED that where still there in stuff was experiential SO THATS OK and does not like my sd card at all 8gb class 4
HAPPY EID to all my muslim friends.
Enjoy!!

here are some more screenshots: http://wootroot.com/blog/?p=212
Great screenshots! Thanks for posting them!
Saw a Dyno app, curious to know how that works if it is what I think it is, maybe just a simulator
Perfect timing. Was just about to root mine tonight.
I like donuts
Join the club.
This "news" is a few days off.
Yay for rom chefs :D Eternally in your debt.
Haven't had a problem with 4.1.11 yet, and donut marketplace is pretty cool.
More importantly, Donut Search is even better.
Most importantly, Cynogen plus BFS is frickin fantastic.
What's BFS? I'm new to this custom game and still learning...
BFS is a new scheduler aimed at hardware like smartphones.

Did anyone else notice in their ROMs that theirs an updated youtube app? It added a whole lot of features, and looks much better than the old one.
Just noticed that myself, good catch. He throws a lot of goodies into his roms.
there's* :(
this is old news
I'm anxious to get my hands on an Android. I have been for some time. I hope they continue to evolve, so that if/when they come to Verizon, I can eagerly scoop it up. For those who do have it, are pricing plans similar to regular phones? I'm the kind of guy who thinks iPhones are for the rich and famous if that gives you perspective.
Hyping an unstable experimental build of a rooted phone with no be careful warning!
Smooth work Engadget
These guys updating to this can expect force closes, a lot of widgets are not compatible yet with 1.6, so remove your widgets if so
