Nintendo confirms $199 Wii for September 27?
It might sound confusing at first, but it all makes sense, we promise. The folks at Nintendojo were apparently on a retailer conference call where Nintendo "confirmed" the new $199 Wii price, which will supposedly go into effect on Sunday September 27. Only problem is that we have to take Nintendojo's word for it -- not that we have any reason not to, but for now we'll have to just call this an "unconfirmed confirmation" until Nintendo can summon the courage to fess up to the $50 price cut to a couple of corroborating sources. It's not like those multiple flyer price leaks are knocking anybody off the trail, but we usually to hear these things from the horse's mouth -- or at least from a retailer's shelf -- before we go into all-out celebration mode.

WII ... XBOX .... PS3
What are you trying to say? I think all of us are aware of the consoles...
I might pick up a Wii. Woulda picked up a PS3 but without the ability to play PS2 games, I'm just not that interested. Not to mention the 1 analog stick GO. I woulda gotten one but if I can't play a First Person shooter properly on it, it just isn't that interesting.
He's trying to say Wii is better then Xbox, and Xbox is better then PS3.
Learn how to spell dumbass
Still too expensive compared to the PS3
The wii does not have Ethernet port/Digital audio out 5.1/HDMI/Hard drive/Blu ray/Next Gen games/real online play.
I'll get one when its price drop to 99$ like the gamecube, play mario galaxy1/2 then sell it back.
DR HOUSE
I can forgive the lack of Ethernet more than I can forgive the lack of built in Wifi in my 360. Wifi is the "next generation" standard for all computers. Laptops are expected to have it moreso than ethernet, although the existence of USB ports allows for ethernet -to-USB adapters in both systems. Since most people have home WiFi routers, like I do with FIOS, its easier to get my new system up and running on WiFi than to have to go buy ethernet cable to link it to an ethernet router that may be in an innacesable part of the house.
I plan to use a Wii for classic games from my NES, SEGA, TG16 days. None of them have 5.1 sound. I don't expect as much from Wii as I expect from PS3 and 360.
Maybe he's saying we should buy all 3 of them!
If he was saying which systems are better than others, I think ">" and "
we usually to hear these things from the horse's mouth
we usually like to hear these things from the horse's mouth. Fixed for ya.
He accidentally the word.
ZuneSucks blows.
Just let me know when they do a price cut on the price of new video games. $60 is too much, I'd rather spend $10 bucks less on games than $50 less on a console.
i live in spain and here new games (at least for the ps3) cost 70€. than't over 100 bucks back in the u.s. it pisses me off cuz i have to wait over a year for the prices to go "on sale" so i can pay about what you would pay normally for a new release there.
So why dont you order them online and save yourself the hassle and wait?
you know anyplace who ships internationally for free? ever hear of duty fees? and if it's a wii game it's regions specific.
Wii games DO cost $50...
@"MRLN the Amazing" I can't talk about console games in general? There was 3 price drops in the last month or so, so my post was relevant, and $50 is still wayyyy to much for a Wii game. I'd rather spend $60 bucks and get a game with decent graphics than get a crappy Wii port of the game for $30, with horrible game play and Wii gimmicks.
STEAL EVERYTHING!
Don't forget price drops, either. If your backlog will keep you busy for a few months, just wait and someone will have it on sale. I haven't paid $60 for a PS3 game once so far this year.
Looks like I don't get any credit for tipping this, :(
Wahhh.
In other news, looks like us Canadians will get the Wii at the 'was' price of 249.99. Woohoo! Sort of.
Let's hope the cut makes it across the pond. $199 is about £120 right now (£138 with 15% VAT)!
I'd hit that.
You know what, the UK gets rapes on prices left right and center, for example i was looking to buy a PAYG iphone 32gb, its $300 in the US which works out at around £183, but to buy it in the uk its more like £530!!! so i highly doubt we'll ever get equal pricing:(
In the US, Iphones cannot be used in a PAYG setup unless they are purchased unlocked. And even if they are, they aren't eligible for a data plan without a supplementary voice plan. T-Mobile does allow data plans without voice plans (on prepaid, basically), but only for the Sidekick LX...no other product.
Yeah i didn't realise, i was too giddy in thinking i'd be getting an iphone for so cheap....
Well,
This mean handheld consoles are almost the same price as their console counterpart (DSi - Wii / PSPgo - PS3)
Wait, you want to tell me there still are people in the world that DON'T have a Wii?
*raises hand*
I'm waiting for the $99 price-point and $50 for 12 games. Then I'll sit down (stand up?) and play some Wii.
Recent meetings with my financial advisors recommend waiting 5 years. One of the suits goes: "we're talking PS2 price levels, then POUNCE! It's not worth any more than that!"
In a rare show of agreement, I nodded.
well yea...lol...because it did the OPPOSITE of what the PS2 did....PS2 came out and attracted the hardcore gamers first.....then built on the casual gamers in later years....getting it to over 150 million sold in under 9 years....
the Wii came out and had such a casual appeal that the casual folk jumped on it saturating the market and also causing some of us hardcore gamers to be turned off by the lack of GOOD games...the New Metroid title coming by Team Ninja is a good step towards making up for the years lost....honestly tho I don't see the Wii EVER selling 150 Million.....even with the momentum it had....it may do 100 million....maybe 120...but something tells me Nintendo will end up pulling the plug on it before it gets that far due to even more slumping sales
I agree with Tekdroid
it's not the upfront for the console (whichever one) it's the cost of the games. I'm in AU and here the Wii was $399 at release (I bought day 1); yet at $70-$100 a game you only need 4 to have equalled the console.
I have over 30 boxed games and I've switched my buying habits so I now only buy on sale, usually mid year, a year after release, rarely 2nd hand. I accept that may not be a usual consumer approach.
So... while typing I had a idea.
The company could look at the average time to complete a game, the expected life of the console, the average income and % of available for entertainment and their slice of that then time the release of titles to feed that cycle with a $ that considers the above. Life of console is used to aggregate the needed ROI over the lfetime of games purchases.
I suspect they peg it at market expectation (target demographic) and leave it at that to bleed as much as quick as possible.
/end pondering
Had one (swapped for a DS and a CFW PSP; both of which were got cheaply) then sold it Christmas 2007 when Wii's were in shortage. Got £250 for it (Which back then was $496, now its about $406)
Fuck a Price Drop...they have the market saturated....knocking $50 isn't going to make those of us who have one already buy another one....
However they release a black one and then other colors I'm fairly certain more people will go buy another one....I KNOW I will buy a Black one....and I would buy it for $250....
I still really dislike the design and feel they should do a redesign (of the unit itself).
Things that go in the hand are fine as is.
A really understated Wii Mini would be great, I reckon.
Wii Mini?? the thing is small as is...only way its going to get smaller is if you cram all of that into something the size of a portable DVD player.....but why would they do that?
Just how would the wii become any smaller? the Disc barely fits in it, its like a mac mini....
what the wii needs are a new bunch colours such as the black one which looks really decent... The games are a different story
They could use a laptop dvd drive instead of a desktop sized one, and remove a gamecube mem card because thats 2nd biggest piece in the wii
I know it's small. I still think it would be nice to see a smaller, rounder re-design. It's just a question of taste; I know they have no reason to really do it.
The designer of that flyer needs to be sacked... Capital PR, lowercase i, capital CE, capital C, lowercase ut?
[/designer]
He does, but not for that; he missed the opportunity to write "PRiiCE".
It'll still be too expensive for the current SKU. It would be a better value w/ Wii Motion Plus and additional controller(s) in the box, just like old times. Plus they'll rob Canadians and probably charge 249$ for this thing instead of 199$.
Nintendo is charging ridiculous prices for all the parts of the Wii controller. It's more expensive to get a Wii with 4 controllers (the way it's meant to be played in the first place) then buying a PS3 Slim or a X360.
Bad pricing, underwhelming games, it's not even black. ;)
will supposedly go into effect on Sunday September 27
just in time after announcing at TGS
Will Nintendo be participating TGS this year?
wow thats a first..
Prediction: widespread shortages and $700 Wiis on ebay for Christmas.
who cares about this piece of trash anyways? People who like garbage in their living rooms stinking the place up.
This just in:
Nintendo have rejected you for that marketing position you applied for.
:)
