Definitively lame, but hey, I get a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, though I'm sure this "signature" edition only add some backgrounds and some incredibly nerdy bragging rights.

But I'm getting a free copy of Ultimate that I do not have to pay $320 for. So I'm not one to complain about having to organize a party and hang out with friends I was already going to hang out with anyway, in exchange for showing of Win7 in the process.
Yes Windows 7 Ultimate. So I can get those Ultimate Extras. Oh wait a second there were never any Ultimate Extras, doh! Oh actually there was what 2 texas hold em and a stupid background that pegged your CPU.
I'd like to see this same ad champaign in Poland.

I signed up to be a host the day engadget posted the story a while ago. I was confirmed as one last night. This is pretty cool. Thanks to you, engadget, I get a party package containing Windows 7 Ultimate Signature Edition among many other little goodies.

Lame or not, you're not invited if you're a business user. Because surveys show most businesses
aren't upgrading to Win 7 and sticking with XP. That represents 75% of Windows users.
Um, fieldcar and Nohone - all the OC said was "lame". Nothing about Apple. Good on you two for putting words in Detox's mouth and then criticising them for the words they didn't say.
You may remember when this "Launch Party" idea was first talked about on Engadget, there were many Windows people who were critical of the idea, does that make them all Apple fanboys, too?
You talked about logic, well, here is your bad logic:

Now this is obviously wrong, since Detox could - indeed, was - saying *nothing* about Apple. It is possible to be neither pro-Apple nor anti-Apple (it is especially easy when you're not talking about Apple).
Here is a thought for next time - don't put words in people's mouths, instead find out what they meant or who they were referring to. Doing that will prevent you from making idiotic posts, and from bringing Apple into a discussion about Microsoft's launch parties.
Bringing Apple into unrelated discussions is what you keep criticising Apple fanboys for. Hypocrites.

I can't imagine how a party that doesn't celebrate a new version of Windows would be worse than a party that does.

That's a lot of parties!

Yep, I'm really happy to get the free copy of Ultimate, but the rest of the stuff is horrible. I actually planned on having a real event, thinking there would be some decent swag for me to give away to friends & family.
I got in, but I my self found enjoyment from getting Windows 7 napkins. Kind of a weird thing to add in.

Nope, it's Ultimate, all right. The "host notes" suggest reminding partygoers that not all versions of Win7 can do everything that "Ultimate" can.
And I'd be choked if they cut me back to Home Premium; I have a domain-based network at home.

Did you hear the news? Microsoft is trying to lure Apple retail employee's and managers to their (POS)store with offering of incentives and more money.... And.... trying to get iPhone developers to sign on to make the ZuneHD a phone. Really Microsoft? Apple is crap yet they are trying to steal any and every idea that Apple has? Microsoft just sees $ signs in their heads, they don't realize that Apple employees are passionate about Apple products. Copy their stores, their products, their entire system... you will still suck!

apple employees are proud of their products? one of my good friends works for apple and he uses Windows 7 RC and owns a Palm Pre and loves them..

What's your point? One of my friends works for Microsoft, and uses a MacBook Pro AS HIS COMPANY COMPUTER and uses an iPhone as his everyday personal phone.

@GRAMMAR POLICE: I think the people who need to meet a girl are those who throw a Windows party. I would rather pay for a version than lose my dignity.
I got an email last night that said I had to be one of the first to confirm. I was luckily checking my email at the time they sent it, and I logged in and it automatically confirmed me as a host. They had you pick between 3 categories "media, family/friend entertainment" etc. I guess they give different packages based on the category you chose. Of course I was in a rush, and just selected family/friend entertainment.
Regardless, the host gets 1 limited edition Windows 7 Ultimate Edition copy, balloons, streamers, Windows 7 playing cards, Windows 7 puzzle, and a couple other small things. Good thing I didn't jump on the $30 student upgrade price!
Anyone NOT receive this notice?
Seems like everyone got it. I can cancel my preorder now :)
