Motorola CLIQ promotional material surfaces, confirms October 19th pre-order start
Can you feel it? Can you feel Motorola rushing back to relevance? If you're still in need of a bit more encouragement, have a gander at this. What you're looking at is official T-Mobile USA promotional material for the upcoming CLIQ, and interestingly enough, the whole brochure is in the shape of the phone it's advertising. You won't learn much from flipping through the pages (though the screengrabs are appreciated), but you will notice that pre-orders are set officially begin on October 19th -- just like we knew they would. You know, when it shows up as free on contract.

gotta have it
....and no UMA built-in.... booooo....
I thought they killed the 400 text message add on thingie bobber....
No! Bad oprica007! Bad!
Old. TmoNews had this over a week ago.

I don't read every news blog on the internet.
OK, where is the N900 preview on t-mobile.com?
T-Mobile is probably trying to get Nokia to disable VoIP apps over 3G in the N900. By default, N900 has Google talk voice chat support over 3G and skype was also in the making.
If, and only if, this stays free, it will be big.
this may be T-Mobile's first killer phone, only time will tell. If the reviews are favorable I'll play with it and hopefully extend my T-mobile contract
I DEMAND EMPIRICAL DATA!!!!!!! REBEL SCUM!!!!!!
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAH BOuNCE OVER THE MOON~
STARTEC FTW!!
hey dumbass HTML coding isn't allowed to us end users on the message board.
i was replying to a spammer if your wondering wtf am i talking about. the message board removed his comment.
That's what all people who talk to themselves say.
Btw, those guys near the van have a free white jacket for you. Try it on!
I like the phone and features... but with no UMA in that thing it doesn't help those of us that depend on WiFi calling (especially where I live with only two bars of EDGE). If T-mobile had a femtocell device... that would make up for it. I just don't get why they can't offer UMA in this thing? Grrrr.....
On the flyer it talks about getting a chance to win it free by passing a test; this is a online way of product training. AMD, Intel, and other PC Companies used to use it when I worked for CompUSA; pass the test and get a chance at cheap or even free product and swag.
Can someone please explain exactly what UMA is?
SDot : you can read these two sources:
http://www.umatechnology.org/overview/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unlicensed_Mobile_Access
It basically allows for WiFi calling on your handset without the need for a soft interface like Skype. I can talk on my cell phone, normally, and when I'm in range of an open or previously setup access point then the phone will connect and continue the call. The big selling point is that on networks like T-Mobile calling on and started from the WiFi AP is free --doesn't count against your minutes. Same goes for calls from AP's that are in other countries too. It's also very helpful if you have poor cell tower coverage in your area but want to use your home AP and Internet connection to make calls. I have it and LOVE it. I use it at work, home, airports and Starbucks.
And before anyone asks, biggest advantage of UMA over the femtocell offerings from AT&T, Verizon and Sprint is that a UMA phone can use ANY available WiFi network to make calls while the femtocell (microcell?) site is limited to just one location i.e. your home OR your office.
If all place you visit have WiFi networks, then you can easily use your UMA phone everywhere and enjoy all advantages of femtocell and more.
So Motorola has killed WinMo officially?
maybe it's just me, but when these phones finally go on sale to us they are basically behind the mark; what takes them SOOO long to come out for? when did it hit the FCC? when it does get passed, shouldn't they just mass-produce it and get it out asap? now I'm all heebeejeebee for snapdragon and all the nice phones that come out EARLIER elsewhere, I wonder how much the carriers play in this...
So...is Tmo bringing back the Web+Text $24.99 package?!
Doesn't Google Voice work as a get around for using minutes on incoming calls?
i think Google voice uses a separate phone number ... UMA is transparent .. its your phone through wifi ...

I have to say I hope this does turn up free on contract...
Now my only question is what's the chance an Android phone coming to T-Mobile with WiFi but doesn't require a data plan and is still free on contract? None probably but all the same, for a cheap-o like me that would be nice. (Seeing as I'm almost always around WiFi data is almost unnecessary.)
Ooh... i hope i can pick one of these up sweet pamphlets tomorrow
Listen... I'll make this simple...
There is no news from Motorola until we hear about the Sholes. I mean, come on, nobody "rush(es) back to relevance" on the wave of T-Mobile. Just ask Android. The genius decision to launch that OS via the G1 on their network really worked out, huh? Despite people's love for it, almost 2 years into Android's existence it still doesn't have appreciable market share. You've got to launch your device/OS on a relevant network. The Hero, via Sprint, will be the biggest Android hit yet. And when/if the Sholes hits Verizon, look out. I still have friends who have to go through big red for personal/business lines and they ask for the best smartphone and are stuck with the Storm. Joke.
Yes, it does suck that UMA is not included in this phone (it requires a hardware chip). I suspect that Google is to blame for this, as they would rather push Google Voice. The UMA chip is not in their reference design, so, I doubt any manufacturer can add it to an Android device.
If T-Mobile made a stand, I bet they would cave. To me it's INSANE that T-Mo releases any phone that has Wifi without UMA. That is still clearly a differentiator and they should play that up big time. I have had it for the last 2 years on my BB and LOVE IT. Sound quality is awesome, never drops calls and is FAR SUPERIOR to any Voip app like Skype or GV.
Even with this UMA disappointment, I am probably going to jump on this phone. I was leaning towards the N900 but had a chance to play with it for an hour at the Chicago Nokia store and was disappointed with it. The biggest problems were a sucky keyboard, and shocker, a poor cell phone interface. Too many clicks to get to the phone, essentially only works in landscape mode with the keyboard open, no integrated services (like Motoblur, although you can load pixelpipe, etc on it) and I fear battery life will be a major killer. High end device but focuses too much on the internet device instead of focusing on both that and the phone equally. On the other hand...the BB 9700 is coming soon to T-Mo and it DOES HAVE UMA as well as 3G, woo-hoo! Decisions, decisions, decisions...

A little birdie told me Motorola is doing alot of R&D with some open-source OpenGL libraries...
anyone know if the CLIQ runs using OpenGL?
