"Motion Controller support allows easy way to differentiate PS3 SKU" Maybe I'm the only one who read it this way, but this leads me to believe not all ps3 skus support the motion controller. Or in other words, there will be obsolete skus (those without MC support) and those with it.
And if it were a firmware or pseye difference, there wouldn't be any need for new ps3 skus.
