Samsung InstinctQ for Sprint passes by the FCC and turns a few heads
It's been a little piece of time since we saw that photo of the G1-esque Samsung InstinctQ emerge, and we were starting to wonder what had become of our newest QWERTY cutie. Well -- the M900, as it's also known -- has just ducked through the old FCC, and though we didn't really learn anything we didn't already know, it was just nice to see its face again. The Sprint-bound, CMDA / EV-DO-loving Android slider will pack Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and we have to say that it's looking pretty fly to our eyes. We're not sure when this bad boy's going to hit reality, but the FCC appearance makes us think it won't be too long now.

It doesn't look bad, but I would generally recommend sticking to HTC phones when possible if you're at all interested in hacking because of the invaluable resources at xda-developers. If you don't care about crazy hacking stuff then ignore this advice.
Have you owned an HTC phone? The two I've owned have been complete garbage and I know I'm not alone here. My G1 has been creaky and rattly since the day I got it and it's 7 hour battery life with minimal use is pathetic. Even worse, the T-Mobile Shadow I had with battery life just as bad and it wasn't even 3G.
They hack the OS. So there should be plenty to do with it.
Android is really making a push. Since Android is soon to be on all the major carriers and installed on a diverse set of hardware... I wonder how the developer market will react. I think all that is need now is for Google to start advertising the app functionality so the unwashed masses realize the iPhone is not the only game in town for that stuff.
once youve seen one samsung phone youve seen them all IMO
You've got that right, though my opinion is probably a bit clouded by the POS Glide sitting on my desk. I've got waaaay too many months left on my contract for it to legitimately be this crapped out.
I kinda own a Samsung Jack i637 and it's very difficult to find differences between that device and this one.
It seems like the Jack and this one, once shared a womb, but have different Hardware and Software.
You are so right, Pedowhatever.... /s
I think the main reason I'm looking forward to this Android phone is because of the hardware keyboard. Virtual keyboards lend themselves to my caveman boyfriend tapping on the poor touchscreen too hard.
And hey, Android is awesome sauce. :D
I honestly cannot stand software keyboards. I used the MyTouch keyboard yesterday and I just can't imagine myself bangin out long texts or emails with that thing. My iPod Touch that I carry with me while does have a pretty decent keyboard it just doesn't compare to a hardware keyboard found on my Touch Pro.
Hard to believe that Samsung hasn't dropped the Instinct name.
Why should they? They Instinct was a huge success on Sprint, they'll call everyone of their Sprint phones Instinct to continue to capitalize on its sales and success.
The orginal instinct was anything but a success, it is crap. I know i am still stuck using it.
But it sold fairly well.
So what are the hardware specs here compared to the Hero?
When is Mexico getting some Android love? The effing carriers do not care for it.
We only have two, and the major one is loving everything else.
My wishlist for Telcel:
- Palm Pre
- Some HTC that's from this century. The Touch and Touch Diamond are already outdated.
- A decent Android device.
'Nuff said.
BlackBerry Curve 8520 is kinda flirting with me... I HAVE to get rid of my old, but a great flash camera, SE K790a... I know, I know... But I'm just waiting on the right one.
Damn, first the Pre, then the Hero, then Pixi, now this. Sprint's just lining up the smart phones left and right.
You forgot the tour, TP2
I don't count Blackberry and WinMo, as Blackberries are nothing but glorified email devices and Windows Mobile is still stuck in 2006.
Tough decision next month... InstinctQ, Hero, or Pre???
Sprint is building themselves a nice little phone lineup...
I have the same dilemma :)
Probably going with the Hero
Hey, they're using my background! 8)
I want Sprint to buy US Cellular so I can get an Andriod phone. Oh well, if the Touch Pro 2 rumors are correct I can emulate it.
Nice, the only issue here is Sprint sux in my area...I need some ATT Android, what the hell is wrong with ATT? Never mind, I know what's wrong with them.
Any other hardware keyboard android phones coming to sprint soon? I'd much rather have an HTC phone but I need a qwerty and I don't think I can wait any longer.
I Completely agree. I Wanted the Hero...but i opted for the Touch Pro 2 and settled for the 6.5 Update. HTC phones feel like your actually holdin sumthin. I Swore id never buy a Touch screen only phone ever again..so im blowin texts out the water with my big ass screen and keyboard.
I can get another upgrade w/o extending my contract...but only way i use it if its on for a slide out HTC with Android..or an LG be nice
Doubtful. These exclusive contracts with manufacturers don't come cheap, so carriers try not to overlap their product lines too much. As it is, Sprint's already got probably the most robust smart phone lineup of any carrier in the US.
do samsung phones = no gps lag that the HTC phone have (diamond ,touch pro, touch pro 2 , G1)
Any chance this phone can run the SenseUI the Hero has? They are both android phones.
Speaking strictly from a software point of view, assuming the appropriate modifications are made by those in the know, yes, you could probably get Sense to run on this thing.
The thing is the way Sense is written it probably uses drivers or dependencies found on HTC hardware porting it over to Samsung phones could be trouble. Kind of like when people tried to port TouchFlo3D to other WinMo phone's only a select few would work.
I like this phone, but they say cell phones cause cancer. Is that true?
I want this thing so I can ditch my Moto Q9c w/ Sprint. But I have a feeling they'll require the same data plan that is required with the Pre, which would put it out of reach.
The 500min unlimted 'everything plus' plan for $59 isnt that bad.
Wow, got a tough decision here on Hero, Pre, and IntinctQ. Not sure how I will choose. I like the Pre, but, I had an Instinct and my biggest two complaints were no physical keyboard and lack of any real Apps, the InstinctQ solves both of those problems.
I heard that the Hero is a bit underpowered, hope that the new Instinct doesn't suffer from the same thing. Going to wait for more detailed specs...
Need to see a brand new pic of the phone. Shit looks real dirty and childish to me.
