Best Buy bringing value priced all-in-one 32-inch LCD & Blu-ray HDTV to stores "soon"
It's not that surprising to learn Best Buy will be among those delivering a 1080p LCD with Blu-ray disc player packed in under its Insignia store brand, as we've been expecting rebadged units from overseas to hit the value market for some time. Marked "coming soon" at $599, it's easily a few hundred less than a comparable model from Sharp, but buyers will have to live without some of the newer line items like 120Hz motion processing and a contrast ratio higher than 20,000:1. Though we don't expect a lot in terms of load times, audio support or other features (no specs on the Blu-ray player noted) we're sure a bedroom or dorm room somewhere will find a spot for the NS-LBD32X. Your move, Wal-mart.

Too bad it's insignia. Having worked at Best Buy, I can safely say that anything Dynex or Insignia branded is a worthless POS.
I took can say the same as I have the same qualifications
Mark
When I was in Grad School I was car installation manager at store 483.
I was about to say that Insignia SUCKS. Best Buy simply takes cheap chinese made crap and marks it up and slaps the Insignia label on it.
I'd rather buy a PS3 for Blu Ray and add it on to a HDTV. After all, PS3 is upgradeable.
I third this, the televisions are terrible.
@ZuneSucks: Well I graduated from one of the top ranked public universities for engineering with a computer science degree(with 3 quarters on dean's list) and am currently working as a software engineer at a major software company so I guess that kinda negates that theory, eh? College student going for what's probably the easiest job on the planet? Impossible!
@ZuneSucks: Also, you might want to check the caliber of your own posts before resorting to ridiculous ad hominem attacks, since they generally aren't exactly a beacon of intelligence.
i have had my insignia 32" 1080p (obviously not this one) for a while now and never had a single problem or glitch at all. *fingers crossed* in fact, it seems like a very well-made product. perhaps it depends on what model you get and what original OEM made it, chinese or otherwise. i got it since i am a college student on a tight budget and it has served it purpose well so far. i suppose i will keep my eye out for any manufacturing defects/
Any cheap integrated disc player will be a POS. It is guaranteed that within two years these bluray players will be broken or skipping.
Actually I have a 26-inch Insignia that I bought two years ago at an unadvertised sale for $249 and I think it's a great bedroom TV. Side by side with the other name brand LCDs it was just as good as the ones going for three times the price. The viewing angle is great too. I think I read somewhere that this unit used an LG panel. From what I've seen the Dynex branded stuff is really the worst. Usually it has bad viewing angles and causes eye strain. But with Insignia stuff you usually have to compare it to whatever else is on the same shelf (and mess around with the settings because usually the factory settings are terrible) and you might be able to save some serious cash.
Hey Mark, I've owned a few Insignias and they may not win any Nobel Peace prizes but they definitely do the trick for the price.
32" is a lil too small for me, but it turns out that they have a 50 inch 1080p HDTV for $999 - http://www.hdtvbeat.com/insignia-ns-lcd52hd-09-52-lcd-1080p-hdtv-999/2009/09/
@Barky
It is guaranteed that in two years the integrated Blu-ray will be broken or skipping? Guaranteed, huh?
It must be awesome to be able to see the future with 100% certainty... got any good stock tips?
(PS --> you suck.)
I've got an Insignia 50" Plasma and I love the thing. I did some firmware nosing and a little research online and found out it's got a Samsung panel. What's not to like for $900?
I think Mark's a bot, becauae it would be really sad if there was a real person who had the time to reply to every engadget post
Need something to do when I'm at work ;)
A bot with extraordinary AI? I think not..
SKYNET!!! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!
Sony is the way to go =)
if you want overpriced LCD's with noisy video processing and insane image trailing issues. then yea sony is the way to go ;P 2009 models are horrible compared to what the competition is brewing. Any Panasonic, Samsung, or even Toshiba will smoke a comparable Sony and cost less
Wait until Cupertino come with their all-in-one solution. Then competition of all-in-one TV systems will really start.
First coming up, Android TV with Blu-Ray player and DVR (MythTV/TiVo)?
They need to make one in that brand or another with Blu-Ray but 40-42in with a good price.
Black Friday is less than 60 days away. My money says that someone will have a 32" LCD for $299.00 or LESS, maybe even $199.00! And there will be Blu-ray players for $99.00.
That would leave enough money for HDMI cables from "Monster Cable" ;-)
I won't ever buy another combo TV/disc drive. Especially of 'value' brand. I still stare with discontent at my 32" Magnavox with a built in DVD player. Thank god it's only for the bedroom. Nothing like a permanent base DVD that doesn't work.
I'm not sure if it really makes sense to have a 32" 1080p display... unless you're sitting less than 4 feet away from it, you're not going to be able to tell the difference between 1080p and 720p at that screen size.
Now, if you can get me a 42" 1080p LCD with built-in Blu-Ray for $599... you got something there!
Surely they need SOME reason to make people think their TV is better than 720Ps... odds are you aren't getting any benefit from it, but the consumer doesn't know that ;)
Insignia = worthless piece of crap. Designed to break as soon as the warranty expires...
Value priced and Best Buy don't belong in the same sentence
OMG I am SOooo not getting one of these.
Maybe Geek Squad will help me plug it in for $130.

I work at Best Buy now (college student). I will say Dynex and Insignia stuff is not the best stuff. But for a budget TV for a college student or TV it is not bad at all. I snagged a Dynex 32" 720p for $250 on sale. I would say thats not a bad deal at all. But trust me after college I would never purchase a dynex or an insignia :)
Maybe not in my living room, but I've a 19" Dynex in the kitchen.
Rebaged? Perhaps not. Zoran {camera on a chip/zip cam] is designing and orchestrating manufacture Best Buy branded televisions. Indeed Zoran has a decal on ELLIOTT SADLER's Best Buy Racing car in the Nascar Spring Cup.
You don't mess with the Zoran. And Mark's avatar makes him look like a douche.
Vizio is a decent and inexpensive brand HDTV, bought 3 this past summer. Add in a PS3 (even though I'm not a die hard gamer) for BRay
and it's a winning combo. I just don't like combo units, when one thing breaks the rest is trash
Does Insignia suck?
Just hope that your blu-ray drive never fails in your all in one. Then you're screwed.
Amen.
I've had a bedroom HDTV Insignia for 5 years, still looks and works great. Must have gotten lucky.
It's so old that it's still a freakin' huge tube tv... but it really does look great.
I once saw a TV that looked exactly like my Insignia with a 'Sansui' label. It really is just re-branded cheap stuff... but hey, I can't complain.
@ Barky, well if it breaks within two years ... All insignia's come with an in-home two year manufactures coverage at no cost. If they can't fix it the first day, they lend you a loaner tv until they do. Never leave you hanging. Besides, I'm pretty sure best buy is known for carrying the MOST brands and models, not just for their entry level stuff. Remember you have to market to all kinds, including wal-mart shoppers, and it's prices. So best buy offers these as a competitive price and stand behind it for free. What is wal-mart doing? Oh yeah selling the entry model of EVERYTHING, and that's it. Are they standing behind it aside from a 30 day return bit?
Awesome. Finally a big 4:3 screen again. At least it looks 4:3. 1080p means it is 1440x1080? Fabulous!
as of July all insignia TV's carry a 2 year warranty and if it needs to be sent out for repairs they give you a loaner 37" insignia to use.
I have a Dynex 32 720p TV and use it for a workout distraction in the basement, works great and loved the price.
@Mark
I am not saying you are not qualified to give an opinion on this company, but Zunesucks does have a point. Best Buy tends to do a terrible job a screening their employees for true experience and knowledge about many products and also employees that are even interested in working and keeping up with the technology and reading engadget and other technology blogs regularly. I often find myself wanting to punch a salesmen from that store for being brand biased and not paying attention to release notes, reviews, and even personal tinkering for themselves to form their own opinion of the product.
I just bought this unit in best buy, Ive only owned it for a week and I already had 2 reg. dvd's stuck in it, plus it doesnt play recorded dvd's or cd's most of the time, or they get stuck in there too, I'm defenitly getting my money back....hope the helps future buyers, and if anyone else has one, thier opinion sure would help,,,,,I gues it only plays blue ray's
When i bought it the sales guy said that LG build's those TV's for best buy, But if so, then why is it a piece of crap,,,,worst tv I've ever bought,,,,trouble in just less than a week.......I've owned alot of LG products and never had issue's with them....
