eviGroup's Android-based Wallet MID debuts in France (avec video)

Haven't found a tablet or MID to your liking just yet? Then you may just want to wait another 24 hours, 'cause that's about the rate they seem to be cropping up these days. This latest one comes from France's eviGroup, and distinguishes itself somewhat by using Android for an OS, although there doesn't appear to be any UI customizations to speak of. Otherwise, it looks like this "Wallet" will be able to more hold its own, if not completely stand out form the pack, with it packing a 5-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, 8GB of internal memory, a miniSD card slot for further expansion, an integrated digital camera, and the trifecta of built-in WiFi, GPS and 3G. Still no word on a release over here, but the folks at eviGroup are promising to launch it in Europe at the "beginning of 2010" for €300 (or about $440), and they've kindly gone ahead and put together a thorough video overview that you can watch right now (after the break).

im waitin for that rockchip tablet thingy... that was eye sex
Tell me again why I would want to carry around an MID when we have smartphones with 3.2/3.5 inch screens and the full capabilities of MIDs???
You probably wouldn't, but we live in a world where the majority of people don't have smartphones yet.
Because you want a 3rd device with a larger screen that you can do extended reading on?
why would i want to carry around a 3.2 inch smartphone when I can instead have a 5 inch MID with all the capabilities of a smartphone? It's got 3G; just use Skype. The new Archos device is interesting but lack of 3G is a deal-breaker. I'm definitely interested to find out more about the Rockchip tablet.
I really, really want a slick touchscreen media player with HARDWARE PLAY/PAUSE AND SKIP BUTTONS. I'm totally baffled about why this doesn't exist yet. How did Apple so effectively hammer the idea into everybody's heads that touchscreens and buttons can't coexist?
I'd really like to upgrade to a touch screen media player because of all the other fun novelty reasons that people like them, but I'm extremely reluctant to give up my hardware buttons. I only need three. Having readily available playback buttons that I can use at a moment's notice without looking is the number one reason why I carry around a Zune 8 instead of just playing music on my Android phone.
I bought a Cowon S9... trust me you will not be disappointed with a list of codecs longer than you have ever seen and a IAMOLED screen i dont know why you would go with anything else. Plus you get what you want the most....Hardware buttons dedicated soley to play, pause, fwd, rwd, AND volume...hope this helps and let me know what you think. :D

eh.. looks like an ipod touch.. but with more stuff!
Android is gaining strength every day. Google seem to be on a winner here!
Android needs a full featured video player.
That is why the new Archos Android Tablet beats the snot out of this device. The audio and video players are much better on the Archos and it has a 800mhz processor (instead of the 600mhz processor in this device). Even the price of Archos is less. The only thing that the above device has on the archos is built in 3G although that in practice means you are limited as to who you can get service through. The archos supports 3G tethering over bluetooth though, so it looks to be better for most practical users.
The verdict: There is no reason to get this over the archos. Objectively speaking the Archos supports more media, has more features, and has better tech specs. Tell me why I should buy this device again?
It really does. The built-in video player is pretty sorry. The music player is bare-bones but passable, but the video player is a freaking joke. There isn't even a place where you can go to browse movies unless you download a third party app, they're just lumped in with home movies taken from the camera when you go into the picture gallery application.
@ sacapuntas: The difference is that eviGroup doesn't have the history of putting out shoddy products that Archos has. Archos products may look good on paper, but the device you get won't make you happy, unless broken things make you happy.
*Waits for some iTard to show up and make a comment about the leopard*
Seriously though, you KNOW its going to happen.
Anyways. Have to agree. The rockchip prototype was sex incarnate. This is OK. Just not as hawt.
When did they drop the L?
Decent all around- But as you can see from the start of the video- its just a couple inches large than an iphone. While there are people who don't have iphone's I'm willing to wager- those that are looking at this device might already have a smartphone with capabilities somewhere within this range- I don't know many people who DON'T have a smartphone because they are they were waiting for a larger, possibly cumbersome MID to be released ;)
fcuk iphone. i want a mid with a 5-6 inch screen and a hardware keyboard like the umid m2 but for under $400 with 3g. some people actually want to use these devices for productive stuff
I do not have one just because of this reason. all those iphones and alike they are just too small for data. Basically I want so so photo, GPS device (that's why I need bigger than 3.5" screen), phone (I don't give a crap that it's too biggish to use as a phone - I don't use cell to often anyway), and for internet wirelese (wifi/3G) browsing
So, while there are devices that has all those features, choices are limited when it comes to screen size in a range of 4.5-5" (it's big enough, but still fits in front shirt pocket)
Nice nice nice.
This is a China MID from SMiT called the MID-560.
You can watch there video from IFA 2009 on youtube the MID is identical even down to the wires coming out of the back.

give it a green and red phone button and i'll snap one up (though i would miss the keyboard)
@ sinjinn
that's exactly what I'm looking for, too. srs.
Sacré bleu!!!
android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly.
Huh, here I heard that all the all the manufacturers had paused new tablet development and were gaping at Apple in fear.
Sounds cool because i am looking for a tablet but the archos 9 is also offering alot of features....
