Griffin iTrip now features iPhone OS 3.0 integration
Griffin, known for its accessories for the iPod and iPhone, has just announced its latest and greatest (though just how great is still in question). The latest iteration of the iTrip takes full advantage of iPhone OS 3.0, allowing you to control the FM transmitter from your iPhone / iPod touch itself. Aren't luscious touchscreen controls preferable to the iTrip's tiny buttons anyways? In addition to app integration, the transmitter features track and artist information on RDS-compatible radios, SmartScan technology for finding the best available frequency in any locale, and a micro-USB port for charging any USB-powered iPod or iPhone from a charger. iTrip is available for $49.99, and the iTrip Controller software can be downloaded for free from the App Store.

So, we know it featurs it, but does is feature iPhone OS 3.0 integration?
They refreshed Engadget entirely to fix their error.
But man I was about to +1 you like 5 times for that.
Ya, saw that. Now everyone is going to have no idea what I'm talking about.
"but does IS feature"
The irony is strong with this one.
Sweet
entire thing looks so BIG
Yeah, I think the original iTrip was smaller, and it didn't have a secondary LCD on itself. Who needs extra lcds anymore?
Damn ugly too.
You can never have too much LCD.
It's like an elephant dick, glued to a baby.
Great - another device that will blast my ears with noise from the interference between it and my car speakers!?
BTW: does anyone know if there is such a thing as a tape adapter with bluetooth music streaming? That would be sweet - except that I would still need to charge it I guess.
I currently use a tape adapter in the car with the audio cable straight into the iPhone but to be honest any solution still gives you the annoying interference noise!?
You could get a wired FM transmitter installed...it would sound as good as your best radio station
Or obviously you could replace your stereo with one that has a line in.
This looks like it will do the job:

But again it would need charging so maybe not ...
Not that anyone is really interested as you probably don't have tape decks in your nice modern cars!?
I would recommend plunking down $100 for a new deck with a front auxilary port. Pristine sound and no fuss.
You want something with a proper line-out.
Most line out stuff that I know of will probably cause interference with the phone calls however, but you may be used to unplugging it from the tape adapter to make calls anyway.

Something like that is a decent solution, also griffin makes some car charger + line out stuff that I use with my iPod Touch, works great.
You sir, have just come up with a million dollar idea. Bluetooth tape adapter, the sprockets that turn the tape will be used to power the device/charge the batteries.
Now somebody get on that.
Probably, iPhone users are happy now. FM Radio is a cutting edge of wireless technology!
You do know that iPod/iPhone FM adapters have been around forever, right? This is just the first one that can use the iPhone to control it rather than external controls.
he's probably being sarcastic.
i'd take the cassette adapters over fm transmitters any day.
or you could buy a generic 3.5mm headjack based one for like 20 bucks and still be able to charge the iphone with the cigar charger
And the total cost would be about..... $50. Yep. Might as well buy the all-in-one.
Just use the cassette adapter: 10 bucks.
So now I can stream my iPhone's audio to my new iPod's FM receiver!
Wait... this giant thing basically adds FM capability? Like, what all other phones have had for the last 5 years? That FM?!?
Seriously, some of the iCrap that comes out is truly amazing!
There are *extremely* few phones on the market with built-in FM transmitters. Idiot.
I had to chime in and also say that you are an idiot, Joe. A large one at that!
Make that three.
way too big, any bigger and iTrip over it.... ahhh I know that was pretty bad...
I laughed I won't lie, but that thing really is too big....makes me glad I have a USB port for my iPhone in my car
I guess this is targeted as a universal iPod FM transmitter, because the built-in LCD screen makes no sense for use with the iPhone.
ah i missed that this can charge
It will also hold a thermos. This is ginormous.
You have to believe that the next update of the iPhone next summer will include an integrated FM radio chip with a live pausing feature as well. They have to keep their flagship device full of all the features of its sister products.
Add me to the list of people wondering
1) why its so frickin big
2) why it needs another LCD
3) why it doesn't have some kind of mounting/arm/cupholder stand
Love that vendors are finally starting to access that 30 pin connector with Apps, though.
Yeah, but it would be better if the people making the apps could get them to work with the itrip original. I have yet to find a remote play app like simplify media or Orb that actually will output the audio to the itrip. I notified simplify media of this and they asked me technical questions as if I was a developer, then they just dropped the whole issue and still haven't fixed it in their latest update. Why the hell does outputting sound out of the dock have to be so problematic!
How much bags of money do these company send Appel to prevent them from integrating FM transmitter into the ipod touch and iphones again ?
So no multitask which makes this quite pointless assume if i want to watch a movie, GPS voice navigation and phone call?
Are these sort of devices not kinda obsoulete now, as virtually all new cars seem to have direct aux inputs these days.
Yeah, because nobody could possibly own an old car, right?
