Microsoft's Pink phones revealed?
It looks likes someone at Microsoft is terribly sloppy with where they leave their important files sitting around. Gizmodo has gotten its hands on two images allegedly of the Pink smartphones that we've been hearing about lately. If you believe your orbs, these represent two distinct iterations of devices which the big M is looking at. Taking a glance at the renders, it's clear that at least one model is that Pre-like phone we spied the other day, supposedly (and creatively) codenamed "Turtle." The other device is dubbed the "Pure," and unfortunately for Microsoft, looks like the G1 having a bad hair day... in 1988. Both devices bear a kind of child-like, simplistic look, which actually makes us wonder if these aren't some concept pieces geared toward the youth market. As Giz says, "Project Pink is Microsoft's new phone for regular people," and "Pink will be primarily aimed at the same market as the Sidekick." Much of that info jibes almost exactly with the news Mary-Jo Foley recently speculated on. Then again, with all the heat the company has been getting about this top secret project, these could very well be reference designs (as opposed to proper models) for a forthcoming lineup of devices. Whatever the case may be, we're definitely underwhelmed from an industrial design standpoint. If this is Microsoft's play for the mainstream consumer smartphone buyer, they've got a pretty big boulder to push uphill.

Maybe, Microsoft is leaking the crapgadget phones to swerve the fact that they are gonna produce the Zune HD phone?
Where are our regular whiners? Ya know... the one's screaming at people for saying this phone looks like the Pre. Oh that's right. It doesn't resemble an iPhone, so there's no reason to scream.
I know this render looks ugly to a lot of people, but to me, it looks like a Pre with a slider less likely to snap off. The keys look easier to press as well. I won't knock it till I've actually held one.
Pink? Looks like slate and lime to me. Not that pink would be any better.
Tell me that's not the real deal... it looks like a toy. And what's up with the "Jessica Smithson" title on the screen?
It does look like the Palm Pre, but certainly not in a good way.
It's funny you say that because the Palm Pre's hardware design was never good
Structurally, it wasn't, from day one that is. Palm supposedly fixed those defects.
I've always liked the look of the Pre. At least the pebble-like appearance tries to have a personality.
Oh how nice it is all smiles ;)
Why didn't they just make the Zune HD a phone... shit.
"Don't believe everything you read on the Internet...that's how WW1 started"
When folded, this phone would look more like Nokia Twist with round edges and no notification ring hole.
This smells like a controlled leak. WinMo 7 is supposed to be for "premium" phones, so what OS is this? What's up with the "Facebook forgot to take its Ritalin" UI? If this really is yet another mobile platform, then along with the Courier one leaked yesterday, MS will be up to about 8 different mobile platforms... hmm....
What the CRAP!
this is there idea of a mobile phone, who ever design this should be fired and who ever aggred this should be the first Microsoft mobile phone should be beeten with a bat. (I want in with that bat).
-
well Apple and the iPhone I may not lik,e but I can say this, I like you more (a lot more) than this crap microsoft is comming out with.
Dammit, I was hoping for something impressive with these phones, but my god they are ugly. I am really praying that these are not real, I mean its really not too hard to make a good looking phone.
But if these are accurate, WinMo has nothing to fear. I was hoping for a powerful good looking phone with lots of surface tech in it and a unique OS, but do not aim for the youth market, leave them the feature phones
Turtle - I think this will definitely appeal to tweens (mostly teens). I don't think it's a bad design decision if that's the target demographic. It's the software that I'm mostly curious about.
Pure - I like the pure. Not to0 flashy or busy and has both touch and tactile input. Add Zune and I'd consider it somethign like this. Still have to see the rest of the package, though.
Tough crowd here. lol
Is it possible that this leak didn't come from MS but Sharp?
it's breathtaking
Looks like a Palm Pre on steroids!
will this phone be touchscreen?
This is probably a cheap phone marketed at kids and teens. FAIL
I dont understand why companies don't give the consumers what they want? I dont get it? You have lots of people on engadget telling you what they would buy, this is almost money in the bank.
If I was running a company I would come here, read what people say, and want, and thats what I would make. I would drop in and even ask you guys what you wanted in the device and build it to your liking, and then sell it.
Couldn't go wrong?
After seeing the Zune HD, I don't see how I could take this seriously at all. I think it's a hoax. Also, the QWERTY looks like it's 2D, so it could be a basic Photoshop job to throw us off.
looks like the pre
Wow, how lame. The Pre got so fat she/he/shim can go on Jerry Springer now......... Many of us want a piece of each phone to make one super phone.... they just took a Pre made it ugly and put on a usable keyboard, how pointless. I hope they make up for this with some super duper specs! If they were trying to compete with another major smartphone, i do not have very high hopes for this.
WTF!!!!
Looks just like the moto Karma

iknorite?
Except... not.
Thats nasty.
I tested these at a "secret" panel and the UI is as bizarre the hardware design.
It has no trace of WinMo but I'm not sure if that's good or bad based on what they slapped in here.
Ok.. Hope it is not like Zune player.. Zune player design is buggy though... specially middle button..
Is that slider a Zii Egg phone?
they have to make a Zune HD phone. They may need us to yell and scream for a year but they have no choice. But they surely aren't going to risk Zune HD sales at the moment.
Let me just say I just purchased a Zune HD, if they would announce a Zune HD phone I would sell my new device in a second. So go ahead Microsoft start designing.
how ugly can this thing be? how much are they paying the design dept? gui designer? what the hell is going on at ms?
"Pink will be primarily aimed at the same market as the Sidekick."
Translation: "Pink will be primarily aimed at 14 year old girls."
Finally some Microsoft lash outs again.
What's with the round corners?
I think ZuneHD looks good, why don't make the phone looks similar?
Microsoft continues the trend by ripping off the Pre, following the great success of the Zune and Zune HD... Oh, wait.
How on earth is that like a G1? I'm SICK of Engadget labling every landscape QWERTY slider "Like a G1". The G1 is unique in having it's chin, and this is nothing like that.
uh. the pure looks fine. very basic, but hardly hideous
HEY PRE! Your fat ass cousin called. He wants to know if he can join the party.
Pre: HELL NO!
Microsoft BOUGHT Danger a while ago. It only makes sense they will make their own phone.
These are the guys who build the Sidekick.
Wikia it yourself.
It's nice to see someone else was able to look past the rumors and see the phone for what it is.
No thanks microsoft. No thanks PC. Instead of try to copy, improve, or beat the iPhone, how about just coming up with something new.
