PS3 Motion Controller confirmed for next spring, finally ready for its close-ups
Update: Press release!
Motion Controller (Tentative) Equipped with High-Precision Motion Sensors, Combined With
PlayStation®Eye Camera, Delivers Whole New Entertainment Experience on PlayStation®3
Tokyo, September 24, 2009 – Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) today announced that it will release new Motion Controller (tentative) for PlayStation®3 (PS3®) computer entertainment system in Spring 2010. The new controller, equipped with high-precision, highly accurate motion sensors, can deliver whole new entertainment experience on PS3 when combined together with the PlayStation®Eye camera*1. Capable of recognizing and tracking a user's face and voice as well as body motion, PlayStation Eye can also output the player's image onto the TV screen. SCE will vigorously promote the expansion of this new experience only possible on the PS3 platform.
The newly announced Motion Controller is equipped with two motion sensors, three axes gyroscope and three axes accelerometer that can detect the controller's angle and movement held in the user's hand. Together with the PlayStation Eye camera for PS3 which can accurately track the absolute position of the controller, the controller can detect the natural and intuitive movement of the hand and reflect the precise movement on to the game. The sphere placed on the top of the controller is not only used to track the absolute position but can also give visual feedback to users by changing the colors or the illuminating patterns of the sphere. Furthermore, the new controller is also equipped with a rumble feature, familiar to the PlayStation® DUALSHOCK® series controller, delivering immersive gaming experience to users.
Further expanding the new experience on PS3, SCE Worldwide Studios will deliver many exciting software titles for the Motion Controller in 2010*2. SCE, with strong support from software developers and publishers, will deploy various measures to enhance the software title line-up for the new Motion Controller and vigorously promote the PS3 platform.

yah... the ball looks funny... u know... the "famous" mini ball-head massager...
There is no way this will backfire on Sony! I wonder if their motion controller has a vibrator inside it, to give it rumble?
Watch. The first track on the first karaoke game is going to be its raining men. It will complete the cycle of gayness that this thing starts. As for the people who say well this is the same tech they use in studios for motion capture. Yes yes it is. And all the shots I've seen of people with balls stuck to them..guess what? they looks like idiots as well, except they were getting paid to do a job. Not entertainment in your home with friends over with said friends taking video of you acting like an idiot with your ball and posting it to youtube.
This may very well have been the easiest solution for Sony to the problem. However it doesn't change the fact on the gay-o-meter from zero being using your hands to 10 using the wiimote; this thing bitch slaps the meter, puts on a pink tu-tu and prances around to dance of the sugar plums. Look at me swinging my ball around! Lets all chest bump! I just took out that orc with my glowing ball of manliness! Look the energy bar has turned purple! I can activate my super mega ball thwacker powerup! Maybe the ball can pulse a color as well. Because that would be even better. It pulses between pink and purple to indicate how much life you have left.

Sony: His = blue, hers = pink, add on for orgy with yellow and green for theirs.
Microsoft: "Nintendo and Sony are kids toys. No need for plastic dongles with project natal. The pros are doing it freehand!"
this device obviously will win over a lot of blondes - hmm color changing lollipop... no, no, no it's a magic wand to control the ps3. whatever.
sony definitely forgot the d-pad??? even the wii-mote has 1?
"Furthermore, the new controller is also equipped with a rumble feature"
that's all I wanted to know :)
when microsoft bring out the natal out i dont think it will do everthing says they never do really they some flashything and have problems with and will just make something that looks similar to the wii remote
at the end of the day its just another that if you can buy if dont cant see the problem its only microsoft fans really cause there cant stand the thought of ps3 having something they doint
This won't work for anything other than gallery style games unless they have a 2nd controller used for actual movement. Almost all games require an analog stick in the other hand for movement of a charactor, whether it be sports, action, FPS, etc. You still need that 2nd hand controller. On that basis, I think this will fail, unless they introduce something like that.
That's also why Natal will fail hard, because not only do you not have a controller for movement, but you don't have a controller for anything, so no precise actions can EVER be made. The demos they've shown for the Natal were just about every type of game you can do with it, everything else that's going to come out is going to be largely the same as the tech demos.
The Wii was successful because it had all of this, it had a 2nd hand analog stick for movement, and the motion sensitive controller for the aim/actions. But the issue with it is that it was inaccurate, and extremely slow. Regardless of how much you were a fan of it, it had a serious delay on the tracking due to the absolutely stupid use of IR.
So currently, they're all failures in my eyes unless they fix these simple issues. Borrow from each other, and maybe they'll have something good.
no nunchuck and no d-pad/analog stick means fail.
The only thing I see happening is lots and lots of people breaking their balls off.
I'll wait for Logtiech's version. This looks too corny.
Interesting how when the latest-gen consoles came out everyone was saying ps3 and 360 were a step ahead of the Wii since they have HD graphics, and all the wii had was motion controls (and was basically the same as GC otherwise)
- and now both are moving to motion controllers.
I'm curious which (HD or motion) most people really think is the bigger step forward in gaming now.
(and which implementation of motion most think is the best)
wow how terrible ps3 sux
theyre trying to be like the wii and xbox
not gonna happen....xbox is the best console out there
sony should just make tvs instead of pscrap
