Fonera 2.0n web applications router now available in the US

It can get a bit confusing at times amid all the announcements about announcements, but the folks at FON have now finally confirmed that their Fonera 2.0n "web applications" router is indeed available in the US, and for the bargain price of just $99. As its name suggests, in addition to functioning just fine as a regular 802.11n router, this one will also let you manage a whole host of web applications like Twitter, Facebook or Flickr even when your computer is turned off -- finally giving you the ability to, for instance, tweet when an upload or download has completed (a surefire way to hang onto those followers you've amassed). Still not up to speed on all this Fonera business? Don't worry, there's a helpful video after the break.

Honestly, I have way too many things that can access facebook.
Am I the only one that sees "Fonera" and "Applications" in the same sentence and things "fornication?"
i'm guessing yes.
It's an interesting device, but I see it as having a VERY limited audience.
This would be useful if my only PC was a laptop that I needed to take with me ALL the time. Otherwise, I can just leave my machine at home and download my torrents or upload my YouTube videos.
It's interesting how less power it draws when compared to your pc turned on. That alone pays itself.
Besides, the possibility to use every other fon spot out there is nice. I use them all the time.
Pass. If I wanted someone to tweet for me, her name would be Bambi, and she would where leather boots.
This is a bit off topic. But, does anyone else think the new engadget show banners, logo, starting, all look like the Mac backgrounds? With the purple space stuff and what not?
adblock plus says...
wut?
I like being able to hook a USB hub up and having lots of devices hooked up. Otherwise, I think the price is too much for now. I'm still using an old WRT54G router from FON (that I flashed DD-WRT onto.) I got a couple of those little white ones too... They work well enough.
$99? Wireless N, HardDrive sharing, UPNP sharing, 3G routing, factory torrent client? Why would I look anywhere else? If its anywhere near as easy to hack as the old ones, its a great buy.
this guys is a horrible video editor...
this is a great idea. I see great potential and its opensource.
;you just made a sale.
I am hoping it comes with the standerd options of most ruter, I need magic pocket, RDP, IP filter, firewall and Virtual server support.
Wow seems pretty good, is it avaliable in the UK?
I don't even have a clue.
If it's just as hackable as the "old" Fonera router, then I'm getting one.
No gigabit Ethernet ports. FAIL!
uh, How do you "make money"?
You make money by selling access. It has two networks: one private with wpa, and one open, like those found on airports. You receive a share of it. I made 9 euros (us$ 14) last month.

Oh, if ONLY this had USB 3.0.
If it doesn't have GigE, whats the point?
I don't understand this product, it's a router with services like DLNA?

FEDs: @SammysFonbox: Right'o thanx for heads-up, we're on our way to your crib with SWAT team and van. Leave the door open or we'll kick it in.
This thing looks great but the wired ports are 10/100 Mbps. This makes the wireless connection theoretically faster than the wired ports. Doh! I need Gigabit speed on the wired ports. Deal breaker! Still a good deal for $99
Is there an RSS client for it that's capable of downloading torrents from an RSS feed and handing them off to the torrent client? If there is, I'll seriously consider buying one of these.
This effectively replaces a print server as well and the handling of a hard drive seems much more important that the facebook/twitter functionalities mentioned by Donald Melanson when reviewing. I expected a better review by Engadget ... could it be that the reviewer was put off by the poor quality of the video as Harold mentioned? A great deal for $99 pity they don't sell it here in Argentina.
But my ISP now can provide only 100Mbps internet. At the moment this the limit. I am using 40Mbps speed. My optical signal converter has 10/100 Mbps, so in my case 10/100 is not so bad :)
