HTC's
Touch Pro2 is the cat's meow on paper, and the US carriers that have managed to score it have
demonstrated as much with their
outrageous MSRPs. But with Android devices popping up in more places than ever, is the TouchFLO'd Windows Mobile experience really cutting it? We've already shared
our own opinions about one of the best specced phones to land this side (and that side) of the Mississippi, but as you know by know,
this space is all about you. If you've splurged on the Touch Pro2, why not give us a shout in comments below and let us know how that decision is working out for you? Feel free to mention the carrier as well, particularly if you've got some beef with reception. And... go!
1. Faster Processor
2. All drivers needed for better video playback
3. FM Radio for CDMA version
4. Camera Flash so I can use it as a flashlight
5. side scroll like the Mogul
6. Magnetic Stylus
7. Sd Slot on the bottom of the phone like the Mogul
8. Front facing Video camera in US Versions with back camera
9. Teflon coating
Senseui Running over Windows Mobile instead of Touch Flo
More video codecs installed
Infra red beam brought back & put on the top of the phone
Make it work by abandoning WinMo.
Include a compass!
Get rid of WinMo, or at least officially support Android on all future devices.
Love mine but it does react a little slow at times and the screen isn't that responsive with the stock screen protector (using the HTC stock 6.1 ROM). So a faster processer and HTC's new rumoured screen tech that allows a stylus to be used with a capacitive screen. Also, while we're being picky, too lose a little weight and maybe something a bit grippy on the sides as it slips out of hand and pocket like a bar of soap. Saying that though, I adore this phone.
1. Put Android on it
2. Capacitive touchscreen
3. 3.5 mm jack (for T-mo version)
4. One word: Snapdragon
5. Did I mention put Android on it? (And I DON'T mean WinMo anything!)
Frustrated...engadget, your commenting system just plain sucks
I'd definitely change the position of the on/off button. In landscape mode with the keyboard extended I've turned the screen off too many times when typing and my left index finger touches the button. REALLY annoying.
Front Camera, 5mp or higher on back camera with flash, maybe some jpegXR support :-)
Better Battery Life
Snapdragon or Tegra would be cool.
- d pad!
- windows key
- ok key
- dont go to home screen on wake-up, stay in the last app or tab used
- i was going to say push mail, but gmail took care of that a few days ago
- opera as defualt browser (hard key mapped to opera, apps launch opera)
- option to uninstall appsa like telenav trial, multiple messenger clients
- hability to inser or remove sdcards without removing the battery cover
- magnet to hold stylus a-la touch pro 1
- dont wake up un received SMS, bad things happen when pocketed phones with toucscreens wake up suddenly
- complete range of requecies for roaming (include 85MHz 3G in US T-Mo version)
-
altough i may have many ideas for improving, I must say this is my favorite phone ever!
some things others said i second:
- front facing camera. Seriusly, how comes everyone is video-calling everyone else, even in 3rd world countries but not in the US?
- camera flash. I know it rarely increases picture quality, but if you drop your keys under you car in a dark parking lot, that little LED is a life saver.
and I would like to see third parties push a variety of accesories, why cant they do USB versions of all these car mounts, speakers, and toher stuff they do for the ipone?
There is a Windows Key, it's to the right of the call key.
sell an unbranded version in the US. I don't want a screwed up keyboard layout from AT&T.
Phone is just way too heavy
BRING BACK THE D-PAD you dumasses! Touch screen will never be more accurate than buttons, plus it lets you use the thing one-handed.
Can't wait for the "no d-pads" fad to go the way of the teeney weeney 2.8" touchscreens fad
I got one with Sprint and I am very happy with the phone in general. The screen on it is beautiful. It's my first touch screen device and it does require a bit of force to get it to recognize touches sometimes so capacitive would be nice there, but it does work very well with the stylus. The reception is much clearer than my (rather old) Samsung A640 and I love the keyboard.
My biggest complaint is Sprint's lack of support for Java development. As an hobby developer, I don't want to drop the money on Visual Studio professional just to play around with apps on it and don't want to get into a potentially sticky situation using my work computer for personal development. According to their developer relations rep, the Sprint Titan Manager (Java VM) wasn't supposed to be on it at all and will be removed in future updates. I saw that T-Mobile fully supports Java and have a letter in to Verizon's developer relations team to get clarification for there.
Basically the device is great I'm just miffed about my carrier's decision to nix Java from their WinMo smartphones. I'm very likely to return it, drop Sprint, and get the same device with someone else.
Oh, one thing I forgot to mention: the volume buttons on it could be raised bit more or changed to a rocker type switch. It can be difficult to alter volume while on a call.
1) 3.5mm headphone jack
2) capacitive screen
3) lower weight
4) finger friendly WinMo
5) am I the only one to think TouchFlo is just a useless gimmick?
- Flash for the camera
- Improved message handling: Sometimes I want to respond to a text message by simply calling the person and vice-versa. The UI isn't as seamless in allowing users to perform those cross-functions.
- Allow some customization on the clock; The whitetiles for the time would look a lot better than the black.
- Allow user to configure default browser.
- Get RID of the Embedded IE since it doesn't support the phone rotation (unless you slide out the keyboard) and it doesn't seem as snappy as Opera.
- Capacitive screen with multi-touch (Get rid of that slider for zoom)
- This one's trivial - Improved Vibrate-on-touch. Rather than vibrating, it feels like a mild click (I said feels, not sounds).
I have been playing with this phone for a week through Verizon and I've decided HTC did a great job with the software on the phone. My previous phone was the ATT Tilt so a lot about this phone is familiar. A lot of the gripes about Windows Mobile on a Touch Screen phone have been addressed.
I think a lot of improvements could be made in just the hardware features. The processor and space seems fine for my needs. I rarely experience serious slowdowns.
The biggest thing this phone is missing is a camera flash. This phone has almost every hardware feature in the book that a phone can have, I think it would be complete with a camera flash.
The other thing that I think is annoying is where the backlight button was put. I think they should have moved it further away from the keyboard. I'm mostly a T9 user but when I do attempt to use the keyboard I often hit the backlight button due to the natural way I hold the device. I'm sure this is something I can get over with practice but it is annoying.
I miss the buttons I had on my ATT Tilt. I often perfer to hit hardware buttons for functions like ok, left menu, and right menu than making the extra effort in making sure the touch screen is responding to my commands. After a while I'm sure to get over this as this is a great phone.
flash camera, WebOS, physical keyboard, ass like Beyonce.
I love the TP2, but am waiting for an SPL unlocker to be available for the CDMA (Verizon) version. Winmo in any stock carrier ROM I've seen is a joke...
Almost every complaint I have @ winmo can be addressed by unlocking the phone & flashing a custom ROM. Almost all of which have been running 6.5 kernels for months now. By the time carriers get around to offering upgrade to 6.5 (if they do, and this is unlikely in a lot of cases) custom ROMs will probably be on WM7.
There are a ton of custom ROMs out there that make the OS really fast, stable, and sensible in a variety of configurations that bring it up to par with others while keeping the core biz functionality & extensibility of winmo.
why not dual boot android and winmo7? ive seen cooked roms on winmo devices. if space and/or processor is an issue, use snapdragon and more ROM.
i dont see why you cant put both on. people partition computer hard drives all the time. im about to put windows on my mac. its not an uncommon thing
I love the phone and the only complaints I have is that there is not a google chat app in the instant messaging section, you cant change the alarm ring tones and changing ringtones is a little annoying. Besides that it runs great, solid battery, amazing screen, and is sturdy and does not feel cheap.
I'd like to see the Touch Pro 2 get the Sense UI that's going into the HD2.
I think i would love Native Video Graphics Drivers... I cant get over 5 Frames per second using Qik... how sad is that. 3 HTC generations of phones ive owned and all have capapilities for 3d acceleration... and well 0 have come with it
LOVING THIS PHONE! I have the Sprint version and while there are a few things missing that I would like to see, all in all the phone KILLS!!
Besides WM 7, I would LOVE to see VISUAL VOICEMAIL on this thing (that's Sprint's fault, not HTC)... Maybe a better camara, with some sort of light for evening pix. Other than that, I love it. I just got mine and I'm now waiting for my 16GB mini SD card and BOOM, I'm in the game!
Peace to all!
I have very minimal comments about the hardware except screen button right where your finger goes where you open the keyboard. My comments come from the software. Unfortunately I feel the software was created by someone that doesn’t really use the phone. I am very disappointed in the true usage of this phone.
I come from a 4.5 year old phone (HTC Typhoon) which I feel they put more thought into HOW someone would use it than they did on the TP2. No touch screen, just your basic keys and a questionable D-Pad. I now have a Verizon TP2 running 6.1 and I hope there have been some improvements in 6.5.
Placing a call – on my old phone, hit the contact button, start typing name (T9) and it returns all those that match both first and last name, select one and dial. On the new phone, press the phone button, then touch contacts, then scroll down to find the last letter of the last name, scroll though the names to find the one you want, then dial. More steps and you lose accessing the number by the first name. To scroll through the list is visually time consuming and dangerous if you are in the car. It needs the ability to type in names and search both first and last name. It is also way too easy to be scrolling through the list of calls and accidentally make a call. When walking it is even easier. A long press should be used to actually make the call not a single press. Dialing operations should be tested by someone using one hand and walking and minimizing the amount of time that user has to focus on the phone.
Speaker phone and mute button – since this IS my sole business phone this was one of the key reasons I bought this phone. The speaker phone is excellent and I love the mute button. This is all good but they need to enhance the use of this. After you finish a call, it would be nice to be able to hang up the call by doing a long press of the mute button. Picking up the phone to end the call and then placing the phone face down again, seems to call one of number in your call list. Also if it is still face down, it would be nice to answer the phone using the mute button and have it in speaker mode.
Operations during a call – On the old phone while on a call, long press phone button turned on / off the speaker button. Now you have to touch keypad function and then touch speaker. Also right soft key would bring up a menu to Switch, End, Mute, Hold, and Conference calls. My only option is to mute or flash. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? On such an advanced phone I lose options and have to rely on 20 year old “flash” options to do another call? I have no way to end one call and switch back to the other one?
Bluetooth headset – when this was connected to my old phone, I could hang up calls with the headset. Now I have to end the call on the phone. I also use to be able to answer a call on my phone and use the phone while I got the headset out. Now even if I answer on the phone, it still only goes through the headset. It is unbelievable to be losing this functionality.
Calendar reminder – one thing I have always hated is the calendar reminder. You either have snooze (5 minutes) or dismiss. After all this time, this hasn’t changed! Oh sure you can change the snooze time but that is worthless. If a reminder is set for an hour before a meeting, you have to hit snooze 11 times. And if you don’t do it right away, it still waits the hard time and you are now late for your call. This was weak in WinMo 2003 SE and after all these years it hasn’t changed. Give me a snooze option of 5 minutes before call and wake up at the time of the call no matter what.
I could go on about the functionality of this phone but I think it will just raise my blood pressure. Yes a new phone takes getting use to but I have had this for a month. I am waiting for Verizon to ship 6.5 before I try to do a lot of tweaking. I just feel that they tried to throw in all kinds of bells and whistles and lost site of what a phone is really used for.
Make it the same size as the hd2 but put in a that mazing keyboard they have now, the only way you should consider putting android on here is if you polished the shit out of it(habing used both devices i like the WinMo much more because of the touchflow). get a real market place for this thing with tons of games and apps.
