"...The cats at PocketNow managed to grab an early ROM and install it on a Touch Diamond2 ..."
Well, it's TouchPro 2 not Touch Diamond 2.

Wow, Microsoft doesn't seem to be sending anyone any S&D letters.
C&D, my bad
Heh microsoft is finally getting some decent hype from people about a mobile product of theirs, of course they would not throw any S&D letters out!
The TouchFLO 3D keeps getting better and better. It is amazing how a technology company like HTC manages to create a very nice UI that would put many companies to shame. No, I don't just mean MS. Apple too. Go HTC!
This is indeed better than the iPhone's interface, that's for sure.
can the tp2 be updated to this?
the video is of the tp2 running the updated version of touchflo and not the touch diamond 2 as stated in the article.
This can be updated but but officially. Go check out the rhodium (tp2) section of xda-developers.com (at your own risk).
The software looks very nice with tons of eye candy. Unfortunately, it seems to slow even the 1 GHz processor down, especially in that "Places" view, or the photo viewing.
it was on a tp2 not the leo
Some horrible comments. Read the info about the video! This is the Leo TF3D2 running on a Touch Pro2(which is NOT 1ghz). Everything you see here is happening on a resistive screen.
Sorry, didn't realize that. It should run like butter on the HTC Leo, then.
It could be the fact that its a beta firmware?
Uh people.... that's on a Touch Diamond 2, with a, I believe a Qualcomm 528Mhz processor. That isn't the Leo, that's a Touch Diamond 2, which a resistive screen. >.>
Touch Pro 2. Engadget article is wrong. As some previous posters have pointed out.
TD2 looks different; the phone call/hangup buttons aren't nearly flush with the bottom of the device like TP2. The TP2 is also much more rounded on the corners.
I was wondering about that it looked like a TP2, but I didn't know what the TD2 looked like so I didn't balk.. I have a loaner TP2 with an older build of 6.5 running on it. It's not bad at all really, but THIS .. this is quite a few steps up. Sigh... nothing on the horizon with a hardware keyboard looks really good except maybe the CLIQ.. but that's still hamstrung non-rooted by Android's inability to run apps off anything but the paltry built-in memory.
Oh.. and resistive screens aren't THAT bad... has anyone actually used a TP2 that's complaining about it..
This ROM is really making me want to just grab T-Mo's TP2.
This is T-Mobile's version of the TP2. I love this phone!
I'm going to look for this ROM build to install on mine. That looks really nice!
chefs all around the world right now are working to port this over to the original touch pro/att fuze...cant wait!
Every time I look at an HTC article I regret having an iPhone.
Can't wait for the Leo, bye bye iPhone!
+1
My thoughts exactly
Xmas is Sep 24?
Ha! I was wondering that too!
Looks wonderful already on the TD2, and it will run like a dream on the Leo.
Now if only Sprint manages to grab the Leo, I'd be all over it.
Wow this really impressed me. That video made this look really nice. I am not very familiar with 6.5 so I kind of wish he went into the start menu and showed other apps so I can see. But my question is this, can it multi task? And if it can how does it go about doing it? Is it like the android solution how you press and hold the home button or is it similar to cards on the Palm Pre or can it simply not multitask like the iPhone?
WinMo was multi-tasking since day one back in 2001 or so :)
WinMo has a task manager that you can access by touching the top-right corner of the screen next to the signal strength, battery icon, etc. indicators, it's that icon that looks like 3 horizontal lines with a drop down menu arrow.
Alternatively on WinMo, you can assign any of the hard keys to be your taskmanager, so let's say you don't need your "Back" button to perform the back function, then just assign it as the TaskManager, so you can always easily flip back and forth between open apps by hitting that one button and then selecting amongst a list of running apps.
It's that easy.
Looks great. Now, can anyone tell me what the advantage of choosing Windows Mobile is over other OS's that have capacitive screens? I'm asking as a lot of the programs I'd like to run are stylus dependent. If I want capacitive, why not just choose another OS?
Looks like he's using the EnergyROM rather than an official update. I had that on my X1 yesterday but found the SMS didn't work. The Twitter tab does work rather nicely though.
It's official: from now on Xmas is only between 6 and 7pm! Check the calendar in the photo
As others have said, great review...clear, concise, easy to follow :) *two thumbs up*
I've been living in my own little iPhone bubble for a short while now, so it's great to peek out from time to time and see other phones branching out with good looking UI and keeping Apple on their toes. Because for me, my iPhone is getting a little *yawn* lol
Keep it up guys :D
thank God for XDA!
WinMo just got it's groove back!
Notice the new Start button anyone? It looks like Windows Mobile 7.
Looks beautiful, nothing short of it, but don't get too flashy on me, WM
TouchFLO looks amazing... If battery power/energy weren't a problem. Is TouchFLO billed as a business interface or a casual interface? I mean, from what I remember, WinMO has been mainly a business type mobile OS. I would like to see some battery benchmarks with all that stuff going on (Animated Wallpaper, widgets, etc). I can't imagine that it'd be very terrific.
Wow, that resistive screen looks... very nice and responsive. I'm shocked, I thought resistive screens ate babies. TP2 will probably be my next phone if its as easy to use as it looks in this vid. When can I get this in the US, Oct 4?
TP2 is available now on T-Mo (my personal carrier), Sprint, and Verizon.
AT&T is on it's way. I am using a loaner AT&T Fortress (TP2). It's a good phone, it keeps the popular chrome and black styling over T-Mo's admittedly classy mocha variation. I'm not going to flash this ROM into it, I'm sure we'll have to give it back at some point. I think it's hitting the street for AT&T on WinMo 6.5's official launch day. If you like AT&T hold out not much longer and they'll take your cash for sure.
I love the phone, I would never have admittedly given it much chance over android if I hadn't actually used it for a bit. The mobile OS/device space is definitely confusing right now if you would rather have something other than an iPhone.
Since there has been no mention of this device I thought I should at least utter it's name...iPhone. Fanboys get an orgasm yet?
Is it just me or did the "Footprints" icon closely resemble the Gnome icon (http://www.gnome.org)?
Thanks a nice lookin' iPhone app- wow, Twitter on another phone- great. Hey, didn't this come out in 2007?
The singificant difference is that twitter apps can run in the background in WinMo meaning you don't have to open up the app to check for new tweets. Instead you are receive new tweets like you do text messages, which makes twitter a much better communication tool. especially if you are on a carrier which does not support SMS tweet notifications.
Put this on my Touch HD, it works quite well. As someone said above, the twitter app is excellent, very well integrated. Lots of other small but impressive things too.
It's nice in a way that the phone itself is essentially becoming a blank
I'd love it if Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile would release ROM updates for TP2 to 6.5 with these TouchFlo 3D enhancements. I have a TP2 on VZW and I'm rather impressed with the TF3d interface thus far.
A few things that annoy me are the way the calendar is integrated (you can't see future appointments at a glance beyond 24 hours ahead). But it looks like that may have been addressed with Agenda View (@2:34 in the video), which is KEY for me. I used the WinMo calendar heavily for organization.
The Twitter and Facebook functionality are indeed pretty awesome. It makes the TP2 a nice blend of Business Phone and Personal Phone. And all of this should fly on Snapdragon for you folks waiting for the HTC Leo. That 1Ghz processor makes me a little jealous, lol.
