So, we got this little guy in the mail today and naturally cracked it right out of its box. We have to say, we're impressed with the feel of the phone and the general responsiveness of the touchscreen, though the software seems to be biting off a lot more than it can chew when it comes to getting around. We noticed more than our fair share of lag when jumping from screen to screen, but there were times when the Instinct HD actually felt really snappy. We still can't say you'd be justified in
dropping a cool $249.99 on this phone (especially with choices like the
Pre,
Hero,
Tour, and forthcoming
Pixi), but if you're an Instinct enthusiast, the photos below should get you properly hot and bothered.
Josh is the podcast on?
Lol I was thinking the same thing.
Yeah what happen to the podcast.
Lets see some games. I got duke Nukem 3D on iPhone.
No live stream this week will be up tommrow for download. Laura June confirmed
http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/25/palm-pre-confirmed-for-verizon-probably/1#c21897889
Wheres the podcast!!?!!?!?
I like it, it reminds me of the Nokia 5800 in terms of what a candybar's form factor should be.
Yeah same here.
Apparently the InstinctHD was so much better than expected Josh forgot about the podcast :-P
:( its what I live for on Fridays!
You can keep the advanced Instinct, just give me the Basic Instinct.
Oh and Josh- note that it's a capacitive screen this time around ;-) That and the camera has quite a few options (both still and video).
A laggy winmo phone for $250? Good luck with selling!
It isn't winmo you dick.
...moron...
iDiot
lol @ the Engadget article on iPhone MMS update. Irony?
I love how they don't mention the iPhone because of the instant cries of "APPLE-LOVERS!"
The iPhone isn't available on Sprint...
This phone will be competing directly with the Pre, the Hero, the Pixi and the Tour, and it sucks compared to all of them. I can't think of a single advantage that this has over a Hero.
Well, there are a couple:
- No trackball necessary
- LED camera flash
- Absolutely awesome, integrated LBS (voice recognition + LiveSearch + GPS + navigation = fantastic)
- Bluetooth OBEX-style remote file system exploration (for those who want to load & unload files quickly & easily)
Not saying it's a better overall experience than the HERO, just saying, there actually are a few items that some would view as advantages.
@therealmusashi
for the hero the track ball isnt "required" its there as an option which makes it an advantage....
WHERES THE PODCAST???
Seeing the Instinct HD, the Palm Pre and the iPhone laying next to each other on a table... the iPhone looks like a big flat rectangular slab of plastic and glass, while the Instinct and the Pre look like slick, modern phones. What happened?!
Message to Apple: people like curves! Your minimalist rounded slab style is starting to look a little boring and uninspired next to these sexy new phones that actually make an attempt at styling.
Each to their own I guess. To me the iPhone is sleek and sexy. Your statement turned around basically implies the iPhone is unique compared to the other rounder phones out there (not that you meant it that way). One bonus is the lack of carrier regalia as seen on the HD.
I agree that hte iPhone really isn't too much of a looker. The Touch looks a bit nicer because of the stainless steel, but the square form factor in general really isn't that graet. The Pre is great to look at/touch, although it doesn't feel as solid as the iPhone(thats the tradeoff for having a replaceable battery and a keyboard).
I have to ask...Will this work with SERO?
i doubt it will work with SERO but the HTC Touch Pro2 definitely does.
so it is true when they say, "looks can kill".
When added with instinct, what could happen?
well rember thos who have the old verision of this are prb gonna upgrade & thatz an extra 150 off of that price 2 so it will b around 100 buckz for people who know how to use the system!!
What extra $150 for people upgrading. $250 is the new customer price, which is the same as the upgrade customer price.
Is it as crappy as the first Instinct? One of the worst phones I've ever used.
Agreed. The first instinct we got sold on was total crap. The updates didn't get pushed out as fast, we were left in the dark about updates and fixes. Never will go back to any instinct again. Until they changed the hardware and software, the Instinct is Extinct...
MEH, will wait for something better, till then the iphone....
There are Instinct enthusiasts?
Yep, they managed to sell several million Instincts. How many Prés are out there...?
So no one is even mentioning the HD video recording capabilities of this device?? That alone sets it apart from other handsets mentioned and the selling point for potential Sprint customers.
I have the original instinct and Im going to to have to say this should be a big pass. especially considering the deals on you can have on the pree. I believe its $100 on amazon right now new service and all.
looks like a 2.8" screen ? how can it say HD?
It's a 3.2" screen and it's called HD because it has the horsepower to playback 720P (HD) video on the phone, output an HD signal over the built in HDMI port, and record 720P video at 30fps via the camera.
this isn't listed on gsmarena
Ummm... While for one it isn't a GSM phone.
Looks awesome I still own the Instinct since I have the two year contract but come this March it will be a touch decision to either go with the Pre or this Instinct HD. Don't forget not only can it do 720p out via HDMI it also has Wi-Fi which is supposed to browse the web as fast as a computer can. I am still going to wait to see this live but anyways looks good, hopefully they will fix the lag
Isn't One It-sincts enough?
Isn't one bad Instinct enough?
I switched from the old instinct to the Palm Pre and I hate the Pre. There aren't enough worthy apps, you can't change text ringtones w/o downloading an app, the facebook app SUCKS!!! I miss the Live Search & Voice mail features on the instinct. I'm taking my Pre back and getting and Instinct HD!! Can't wait! The Pre wouldn't be soo much if it didn't have such a high price. I had to buy out of contract and it was $550. NOT WORTH IT
