Mad Catz announces 'Round Two' Street Fighter IV fightpads and fightstick

It's not doing anything crazy like lowering the price, but it looks like Mad Catz is at least set to give fighting game fans a few more options when it comes to choosing their peripheral of choice. As usual, the headliner is the company's Tournament Edition fightstick, which dials things back after the explosion of color on the Comic-Con exclusive edition, but otherwise remains identical inside and out. Those that honed their Street Fighter skills on their SNES or Genesis can also now choose from a new range of fightpads, featuring artwork with your choice of M. Bison, Guile, Zangief, C. Viper, Cammy, or Sagat. No firm release date just yet, but the whole lot should be out sometime this fall for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the fightstick setting you back the usual $149.99, and the fightpads running a considerably more affordable $39.99 apiece.

Street fighter 4 came out a long time ago...
with the price drop of the 360, there may be a lot of new customers for sf4 who are in need of a fightstick.
Ugh!
Still with the little ball/Pac-Man type joystick...
Anyone who's played ARCADE fighting games knows it should be a teardrop shaped stick.
Why?!?
same reason as to why did all the dinosaurs died out
Actually, look at any Japanese arcade fighting game, they all use the ball top, the bat top was used more so in the arcades in the States, and it really only boils down to preference. I myself can't use a bat top in a fighting game if my life depending on it, I prefer to grip the underside of the ball.
And speaking of which, I would much recommend that you make a stick over buying one, not only is it quite nice being able to choose button/joystick of your preference, but layout can also be a large deciding factor.
Yeah, I've seen some rather nice (and more realistic to arcade quality) "fan-made" sticks. I prefer the teardrop as well, myself.
Just used one similar to this the other day, WTF ARE WE ALL USING JOYPADS!
Much more accurate and way more natural/comfortable!
Ball top in Japan, really?
Hmm... I'd have to try it out.
Making one is a great idea,
as I'd like to make the box heavy,
so it stays in place.
Teardrops are for Emo players...
@bigsofty
I would think it would make it harder to play FPSs as well as almost any other type of non fighting game. Just my opinion.
@dj moon
If all you're looking for is weight, why not buy one, and just add weight to it?
it can haz hadouken?
O.o pretty nice
Can it be confirmed that the Sanwa buttons used on any versions of these TE sticks are inferior..?
$150 game controller??? ouch.
Quick little vid here showing how to modify the cheaper parts out and replace them with Sanwa buttons and directional pad!

Your linked video isn't needed for anyone considering the stick in this article. This new 'Round Two' stick is a Tournament Edition (TE) which already uses Sanwa internals. MadCatz is apparently not making the cheaper SE stick (which does not use Sanwa parts) in this 'Round Two' release.
Real simple....save your money....build your own for cheaper! HAPP Controls Baby!

apparently they are not improving the quality. I guess thats just too much to ask from madcatz. I dont think I have ever owned a mad catz product that didnt break.

^_^
Dude I bought two of the fight pads and one stopped working after a few days. Should have known better Mad Catz has never been known for quality. Buy a Hori if you want to buy a stick.
due to popular demand, Madcatz new TE Stcks and Pads in Japan in October.
The popularity and the reliability of Madcatz new products make it for the 1st time to japan Hori's land.
I think Hori need to change it's form factor and design to be able to compete with Madcatz, new Hori design look like the old ones.
Good luck to both companies as the Fighting Gaming Segment growing, thanks to the Buzz that Street fighter 4 in 2009.
its not that great my 50 dollar x arcade stick is better
