I'm surprised this hasn't sparked any heated fanboy wars. "My console has way shinier insides than yours!"
Your metals are only for teh casuals.
I kan has the blue rayz if I stik ur drive n my box? :D
None have blue led fans...
@Saria the Cat
Those debates only occur over PC hardware, ...
since all consoles come with pretty much with the same hardware.
FAIL !!
You've obviously never been on Joystiq. ;)
Your right, joystiq is worse than here in that department XD
They should do this with dead consoles.
-and then show the dead consoles consorting sexually.
It's Art!
There is no consoletion for some ;-)
Come on Engadget, how is this a brief "history" when it only goes back a few years, and is mainly sony and microsoft... major suck!
'brief'
No PSOne?
No Wii either, for that matter.
How is it a console teardown in Japan, and they feature Microsoft products, but no Nintendo products?
Nintendo has a whole floor dedicated to their consoles.
no gamecube, nintendo 64, no gameboy, no DS
sex and video games?.... it'll never work
they ruined their xbox 360 and playstaion 3 warranty,,
Next time could Engadget possibly consider using music that's easier on the ears? And, y'know, disable the ad right at the end of the video that I can't stop?
Thank god for the mute button
Do you think they used RROD and YLOD machines? Would be a waste if they didn't :D
This isn't intended to slight Sony or MS, but these consoles haven't been around long enough to make the progression of technology all that interesting. The PS1 was the oldest console there, so that could show you some progression, but I'd be much more interested in a display that took some good examples from every console generation. Then the history of these devices would be more evident.
no dissassemble
ahh johnny five...
I came
I went
I can understand not being able to include EVERY console ever made, however you would think that to really demonstrate how technology is evolved, they could include consoles more than ~8 years old. Or, at least, have a single Nintendo console in there somewhere.
Those PS3 heat sinks and blowers (for the slim and phat) are pure design genius!!
Tough crowd....
At :13 you can see the PS2 modem panel I used to take off to hide my weed and pipe. Memories...
considering that these are only sony and microsoft models, it covers their entire history. only nintendo and sega would have the old stuff, but i guess this didn't give a shit about doing this.
Quite interesting, how cheap the Xbox360 mobo looks compared to the PS3 one... oh wait, the PS3 _is_ more expensive than the Xbox360  (and yes, I do own a PS3)
Brief was an understatement. More like history of the PlayStation and Xbox, and only from the last decade.
Thanks for showing me what powers my PS3. i have always wonder, what under hood but too scared to ruin my PS3 warranty
Brief indeed. Where's Dreamcast?
What?!
No Dreamcast?!
No wonder the ps3 doesn't overheat with that fan :)
that's because Sony happened to construct the PS3 with sufficient cooling in mind. Unlike someone else...
makes me miss the days of where heatsinks were more than enough to keep a system cool.
Come back when you actually have the good vintage stuff.
I can't help but wonder, what is that picture of? like an assembly line? And the wall of pictures to the right?
Hey! I'd recognize that Playstation anywhere! That's the one that had laser meltdown on me in the middle of Final Fantasy VII! Grrr!
BTW Engadget. I've been meaning to carp about this for a long time. What is up with this email verification thing! You are the only site I know of that requires users to do this. I want you to know that is a royal PIA!
