Philips SA075 PMP joins the HD-capable crowd
There's an unfortunate lack of details on this one at the moment (official or otherwise), but it looks like Philips has a new PMP in the works that seems set to join the growing ranks of HD-capable players out there. Like those other recently-announced players, this new SA075 model includes a suitably high res touchscreen (800 x 480) on the device itself and, perhaps more importantly, an HDMI out port for true HD video playback on your TV (although it's not clear if that means 720p or full 1080p). And, well, that's about all that's known about it right now -- more on this one as we get it.

If it says "for true HD video playback" it darn well better output 1080p.
Remember those "Vista Ready" stickers?
Bumblebee doesn't approve of this lack of info. He's taken a young girl hostage till more info is given... http://www.flickr.com/photos/27594459@N04/3962423216/
"HD" in this case most likely means 720p at 24 frames per second.
Either way Philips will take the PMP-crown from Archos (who btw, are now distracted by Android, UMPCs, Laptops and so on).
Been waiting for a portable 720p+ H264 MKV PMP for ages... I just hope it has decent capacity unlike those lame Chinese PMPs that only sport a flash memory slot.
I wish the next iphone to get HDMI out, that would be amazing, buy movies from itunes from your iphone and watch them on your HDTV over the HDMI out
You mean like on the Zune HD that's available right now?
owned!
Zune HD? What's a Zune HD? LMAO
@Dax: A device that can do exactly what this guy is talking about, unlike the iPhone.
The zune hd requires a dock station for the hdmi out unlike this device.
i want built it HDMI out.
The 2007 PSP has video out and since July of last year the playstation store (accessible on the PSP) has been renting and selling movies, videos, tv shows, games and whatnot.
@DR House: If you're waiting for that to happen on the iPhone, you'll be waiting a LONG time. It still has the same basic connections of the original iPod, I don't see that changing any time soon.
I am shocked- SHOCKED that DR House has once again mentioned the iPhone. Keep on trolling buddy!
@yahoo.
NO ONE HERE IS INTERESTED IN YOUR SHITTY SITE, NOW FUCK OFF.

@Dax
According to a recent Engadget poll, 43.6% of respondants had a Zune HD. That is a lot of Zune HD owners for just one week on the market.
Oh Mark, I know you've been waiting two years to act that way, while Microsoft was LOST AT SEA in this market while Apple drank their milkshake. So I guess you can have your fun.
The 2007 PSP has video out and a lot more features.
Was said video out in (minimum) 720p?
although its output is only 480p (720x480)
It will suck badly. It will be an half-assed attempt at something that could have been so much more. It always has been that way with Philips.
totally agree. their support is even worse. they post incompatible firmware that disables your device, then when you call them up, all they care about is warranty.
HDMI on EVERYTHING!
will it do web browsing?
I hope you get eaten by a rather large fish.
Any info on whether it'll have an HDD? I like all these HD PMPs, but I hate that they're all stuck at 32GB of flash memory. 32GB of memory doesn't hold a lot of HD content. If someone made a decent HD PMP with a 160Gig HDD, I'd want it for sure.
If the screen is capacitive, it'll be flash memory. The spinning magnetic disk interferes with capacitive touch screens, which is why they have to use flash.
I did not know that. In that light, I'd still rather have an HDD than a capacitive touchscreen. Maybe I'll just have to wait until flash memory gets big and cheap.
Philips hasnt made anything competitive in years ( except maybe electric shavers, maybe tvs? ) but this looks pretty sexy. i wonder what the screen size is, and the quality of the touch input. im very disappointed with the 'touch' on my iriver spinn
These specs are better than the Zune HD..direct HDMI and better screen resolution.
But im sure it'll not look as sexy as the zune and have a lame UI so im confused over getting this or the Zune HD.
So if its not gunna look good and will have a lame UI, why are you even questioning not getting the Zune? Plus, you get a whole ecosystem when you buy a zune, the marketplace, zunepass, zune social, and of course regular firmware updates.
I sure hope that's not an official render cause that's some of the worst photoshopping I've ever seen. Screams fake to me.
But then, who has ever heard of a Philips fanboy? So I can't imagine anyone sitting down to create this without being paid for it.
i'm guessing this will sell at a premium like all Philips electronics. maybe i'll find it in the bargain bin in a few months. lol.
I guess i would count as a philips fan boy. I love my ambilight TV (wish I could get an aurea set in the US) and my $35 dollar region free/ HDMI out dvd player. I'm always on the lookout for Philips products.
