Production Canon EOS 7D video samples hit the web
We've already seen some video from a pre-production Canon EOS 7D, but it looks like it's hitting stores now, and this is the first video we've seen from a final retail unit. It's genuinely impressive, especially since filmmaker Dan Chung says most of it was shot at 1600 to 6400 ISO, but it's important to realize that he was also using some seriously expensive lenses, a specialized video viewfinder, a wide-angle mattebox to reduce lens flare, and a separate external microphone for audio. Was that enough responsible skepticism for you? Good, because we also think the 7D looks like it's going to rock, and we can't wait to try one out. Video after the break, along with a shot of Dan's video rig.

The video looks real nice but I want to see a video with average camera gear.
^ THIS ^
> That >
Agreed.
none of that gear will make a shot look any better except for removing some of the hand held shake and he didn't use any lights that I could see, so that's a pretty accurate representation of what's capable with the camera without specialty gear. Most of that stuff is designed for much larger cameras and they fit it to these smaller cameras, so it looks really bulky. I'm not so sure I'd categorize it as a short film though... More like he went out and shot some b-roll

Helllo, it's a SLR, not a video camera. everything, even half of this is considered more than enough on a SLR.
The only "special" gear he really has on there is the lens hood/matte box, the mic, and the viewfinder attachment. Since it is night time, flare shouldn't be a huge issue, and the viewfinder attachment doesn't affect the image quality and neither does the external mic, so I bet Dan Chung could have shot virtually the same video even without the fancy add-ons. Maybe the only thing an "average" 7D owner would not have access to is post production capabilities.... and talent.
I wish I was Asian, because then my interest in Asian women wouldn't be considered so creepy!
Surgery and makeup can go a long way...
See the Chinese aren't so bright even they think Corona is a good beer.
your weird
I think asians are so smart. They were always tops in my math classes in high school. Oh, and do I capitalize "asians?" And whatever happened to the word "oriental?" That word was so mysterious....reminds me of that movie "Big Trouble in Little China." I love how asians can do magic and shit.
there's nothing creepy about being attracted to ANY girl.
What about your own daughter?
^^ or sister?
any girl that is not underage or related to you. any other criteria that anyone else would like to add?
hhahaha WIN for questioning your desires.
*cough....Jim Gaffigan.....
Stay classy guys.

Video is kickass!
That. Is. Incredible.
Can she play with mine?
shell have to use the macro mode to find it
and she'll make use of the 1.6x crop factor to find it too!
and other things that suggest you have a small penis!
very nice indeed.
out of curiosity, does the camera autofocus in video mode or is that manual focus, since the mirror is flipped up?
exactly what I was wondering
an interesting thing that happens with SLR video and happens here as well.... people don't seem to realize its a video camera. They think he's taking still shots.. which could be good or bad depending on what you want I guess.
Same effect as with a compact camera.
oh dear! it seems my wee wee has been stricken with rigamortis.
Stewie, can you even see your own wee wee?
Did she just say: "I used to charge for this"???
Indeed...I was debating exactly what she meant by that...was she a model? An actress? A public exposure porn actress? We'll never know now.
Unless we go to Beijing and stalk people with cameras ourselves.
Both are wrong. Since she is White, people take pictures of her. Many asian people like to take pictures with white people. Hence, the charge for taking picture reference.
Although she could be a russian prostitute.
Actually, she is brazilian... She says first: "honey, honey... I used to charge for this" translated from portuguese.
Sorry Gustav, she actually says "Honey Honey, that costs money.." in portuguese.
simply stunning!
This is good video, but I'm not blown away. It's good quality HD video. Maybe people have gotten used to awful quality of video from phones and Flips?
Wow. Thing is, though, I almost get the feeling this is more a demo of those awesome lenses than the 7D itself, although I'm sure its sensor and image processor are pretty rare in terms of hardware that can really take advantage of such great optics.
Ive been going through the 5d mark 2 sample videos all day and I think this is my next step for my productions. The picture is just getting better and better. Seeing comparisons with the EX1 has even shown promise....... Ive kind of hit a wall of sorts seeing that some videos are getting some splitting in the image..... Is this a bandwidth or player problem?
They're called rolling shutter artifacts.
http://www.dvxuser.com/jason/CMOS-CCD/
Some call them jellyvision.
They're inherent, and IMHO inexcusable on a video camera that costs that much. I know your 5D2 isn't a dedicated video camera, but HD camcorders also use CMOS sensors and so have the problem too. It's ridiculous.
@why not the LS2LS7
Very informative link,
I think I might just love you, your post was backed by images and videos, and you have a strong opinion about hardware more than the typical "can it run Crysis" or "Macs suck" posts commonly found here on Engadget.
+1
Ridiculous indeed.
That's not what he's referring too. Nothing is moving enough to for the rolling shutter issue to manifest itself. That's a sync issue with your monitor refresh rate and the flash player.
Cellular arrest: the top item on the page at the link I gave is an example of rolling shutter artifacts with no motion at all. Also, the poster I replied to is not talking about this video, so looking at this video and saying there are no rolling shutter artifacts in this one is off-base.
I really love the video!
Damn that girl is hot.
Nice camera and I too want to see a video with average camera gear.
Really the gear that he's got on this camera isn't doing a ton for the image quality. It just makes the camera itself look more pro.
Looks good.
Remember people, this thing is an SLR first; the movie mode is a bonus-
