Video: PSP Go torn down, owners counseled on warranty violation
Sure, most of you are interested in the playability and durability of your gaming devices -- that's why we do our extensive, award-winning reviews (for instance, our latest PSP Go review is quite a page-turner). But sometimes you just want to rip into a device and see the chips and the solder -- that's why we're grateful that the kids at iFixit have provided us with a complete tear-down guide, featuring step-by-step instructions and plenty of pretty pictures. Apparently, the Go owes its diminutive size to the fact that it eschews an internal metal framework altogether (instead relying on the external plastic shell to provide structural integrity). But don't take our word for it! Check out the full video below -- it's basically Hostel with a handheld gaming device.

Et toi.
A torn down PSP Go, is a good PSP Go...
Will get one whenever it get hacked so i can play ps1 games on the go.
So that's what $150 looks like....
=P
So that's what taking it in the can looks like...
you mean 250.
Nah you missed my sarcasm. The PSPGo's worth $150 in my eyes....
You CAN play PS1 games on the go for the Go, you just have to pay for them.
I know that temple.... but i can play my OWN ps1 games on the psp slim with custom firmware.
Sorry i wont rebuy games i already owns, hell most of my ps1 games is not even available on the PSN.
nothing is inside that thing
I think half the reason Sony made this PSP is to get around the Pandora Hack.
I doubt that's the reason, currently the TA-088v3 motherboard on the PSP-3000 hasn't been completely hacked. The Go will likely represent a very small portion of PSP sales, its much more effective to implement anti-piracy measures on their core PSP models.
they put the brakes on the pandora battery with the motherboard of the psp 3000's
they made this to control how games are distributed, plain and simple. they take out the middleman (for example gamestop) even though they plan on charging full price, they make it impossible to share games with friends, they make it impossible to re-sell games...then they laugh all the way to the bank. this is a low blow, even for bastards like sony.
'Bastards like sony'
LOL. they are a media company... of course they want to sell media. The Rootkit thing is ANCIENT history, and Sony's competitors are no saints.
I love how people decide to personify these companies. 'good guys' 'bad guys'.
It's not hard to share games with a PSP go, btw. If selling games and having a hard copy is important to you... don't buy this type of PSP. I suspect the lack of used games in a few years will prove to be a great thing, but that's just my opinion. Sony won't be the only game company doing this... this is the way of the future.
I agree.. I usually tend to buy new instead of used .. the developers and publishers make ZERO money on used game sales. I'd rather the developers see my money when I call their game worthy of a purchase..
At least the battery looks easy to replace.
and Pandora
"it's basically Hostel with a handheld gaming device."
thanks engadget for remembering me on the melted eye...
Ah Sony. How you have failed. First with the XBR9, and now with the Go!
I hope this does get hacked fairly quickly because I am more interested in the go than the older PSP's.
I think it's fantastic that you guys never fail to use the warranty joke in your tear-down articles. Engadget 4ever.
Am I blind? Where is the screen?
10 Requirements for a new Sony Product
1. Ridiculously overpriced early adopter fee.. CHECK
2. Ridiculously overpriced proprietary cables.. CHECK
3. Ridiculously overpriced proprietary storage.. CHECK
4. Complete abandonment of last Generation proprietary cables.. CHECK
5. Complete abandonment of last Generation proprietary storage.. CHECK
6. Reduction of useful components and thus "features" from previous Generation.. CHECK
7. Addition of useless features(for early adopters) to keep pricing high.. CHECK
8. Make the migration of content from previous Generation overly difficult.. CHECK
9. Anger your core audience and developers by doing all the previous 8 steps.. CHECK
10.Create crazy adds that nobody understands just to get extra free press.. CHECK
I agree and as a long time Apple user I am very familiar with this kind of list.
To be fair, the video cable works on both PS2 and PS3.
Not till PSP2(read: PSP squared) comes out. PSPgo is a no-go. This will be the worst selling console in sony history IMO. and Ive owned the PS1, PS2, currently the PS3 but never the PSP. my bro has the PSP so thats good too.
I'm a psp fanboy but I have to admit this thing has crash and burn written all over it.
I am beginning to think that the PSPgo is an oops baby by Sony. They messed up big time with this one but they will have to make due with what they got to support it even if it makes them severly financially stressed. Then at least the next one down the line will be more planned and wanted. Hopefully this is the PSP2 and not the PSPgo-harder.
Ok Sony(or anybody else for that matter), if anybody is reading; this is what we want. And by we I mean nerds, and by nerds I mean me.
1. Wifi - at least G, but now that N is actually a standard, that would be better.
2. Storage - SD/SDHC or MicroSD/HC nobody likes the MS's but you, drop that garbage(and I do mean completely from every product; you can't be making that much money off of them), and save yourself some production costs.
3. MKV support(and every codec you can throw at it)... dual audio/subs and for the love of Pete, Bob, and Jeff the Dark God of Biscuits; HARDWARE RESCALING... NOBODY and I mean NOBODY likes encoding video for half a dozen different devices.
4. A better browser. 5 Years ago the Psp had an awesome browser, but that was like sooo 5 years ago.
5. Netflix
6. Netflix
7. Netflix and Hulu
8. More RAM, it's cheap now, I know some guys Sammy and Hyni... they can get it real cheap.
9. You want to save the UMD... Bundle them with bluerays. If the dvd is 9bucks, the Blueray is 25bucks, and the UMD is 26bucks, which am I buying... the dvd; but if the Blueray and UMD are 25 bucks, now I'm interested(but it's probably too late already). And stop with all the crazy licensing fees, all you're doing is scaring/pissing off all the 3rd party developers.
10. 2nd Analog Nub!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean really, if you are going to abandon your 1st 2nd and 3rd Gen adopters, at least add something we've been asking for since day 1. I mean really, what's the point of making me buy something completely new, that I have to buy all new hardware and software for if it doesn't have the 1 thing I absolutely wanted to begin with. The outcome of that being... I won't buy it...
Go have a great design and portable size, i love it!
