I doubt there'll be any updates. The Australian apple store was down 2 weeks ago for like hours and no they made absolute no updates.

Does anyone know what happens if you are half way through actually buying something in the store when it goes down? Does your session end, does the cart you've spent hours assembling with carefully specified components empty? What happens if the specs or prices change in the hours you have to wait to get back in? If you are making regular purchases for a business or whatever, this must get a real pain... As well as not be able to buy stuff when you need to.

Wouldn't is just be easier for everyone if the store was available all the time as a place to buy stuff, and not used as a crude marketing, buzz making tool...?

It is nearly 4am (on the east coast), so it is probably a pretty slow time for orders, especially business orders.


You do bring up a good point though and I also wonder what would happen in that particular situation (and the store isn't always updated very early morning like this).

Fair points, but really, it's not THAT hard to customize a computer with Apple. There aren't that many options, except on the Mac Pro. But if you're actually buying a Mac Pro, you're probably a little more of a techie and you know what you want, so it wouldn't take more than a few minutes to customize it again.

Since Apple has to take the store offline when updating their own products it stands to reason that they also have to take it down to update third-party products.

It's my guess that this short downtimes with seemingly no new products are actually changes to third party products.

I saw apple store going down early in the evening PST and it came back eventually with all the macs reduced by 100 to 200 bugs each....hope this helps..
