HTC Imagio with WinMo 6.5 out October 6 on Verizon?

As you know, Verizon is one of the carriers participating in the worldwide WinMo 6.5 rollout extravaganza bonanza on October 6, and that Microsoft has said they'll be ramping up to thirty smartphones for the OS by year's end, so the chance is pretty good that the HTC Imagio XV6975 is one of the new handsets we'll be seeing early next month. As reported by PhoneArena, this one is by all accounts Leo's little brother -- a CDMA / GSM device that sports a 3.6-inch WVGA display, 528MHz processor, Wi-Fi, Opera browser, 5 megapixel autofocus camera, microSD slot, and all the TouchFLO 3D lovin' you can handle. In addition, it will also be the first Verizon Smartphone to sport VCast MobileTV -- you know, if that's what you're into. No word on pricing or release date, but you'll know as soon as we do.

In b4 comments about Verizon crippling the phone, start trickling in...
Yeah but that's what custom ROMs are for!
Yup, I predict carrier fanboy war in 5..4..3..2...
Does Verizon Wireless have any fanboys? and if so, are they allowed to post sans Vpost (additional charges apply)?
Although I'd rather have a HTC Leo I could see myself using this. Listen up ATT:
You are not giving me other options besides the iPhone. My contract is up. I'm going to test VZW reception at my house. If it's good. You're gone.
I'm a Verizon customer and def. not a fanboy for any of those other companies, but I get a little miffed at Verizon crippling every phone that they sell.
In b4 VZ-MobileWeb2.0 (circa 1927) replaces Opera browser.
Verizon doesn't need to cripple HTC phones. WinDULL Mobile is already doing that. :)
Seriously, WinDULL Mobile is what killing the HTC sales and this won't change
any time soon as long as they continue that route.
Resistive or capacitive screen?
Given that the HTC Leo is the first Windows Mobile with a capacitive touch screen and this is set to roll out slightly earlier than the Leo, i would assume it will be a resistive touch screen.
Sadness :( such a pretty phone
If you look at the side shot on the left, you can see the stylus tucked into the bottom of the phone. So that would be resistive.
However the capacitive screen works great on the iPhone it is yet to be seen how well it works on WinMo. Reviews on the Leo will tell a lot.
Peek-a-boo, I see a stylus on you!
Booooo....
oh god....now thats FOUR phones I have to decide on. This, the TP2, Moto Sholes, and Storm 2...why must this be so hard.
unless you are addicted to the bb os, the sholes will prob be the clear winner here
lol... i'm in the same situation... as of 20 min ago i was def going to get the TP2 tomorrow for a 30 day review- after i read this i dunno now
ughhhhhhh
yea, im glad i waited cuz i was itching to get the TP2 lol
ya it is a very hard decision
this nice htc phone
sholes android
storm 2 great touch screen
tp2 quarty keyboard
o and maybe pre?
wait is leo comming to usa?
You don't have to decide on the Sholes yet; Big Red is taking it's sweet-a$$ time announcing it.
this is just TP2 sans keyboard w/ better camera
Yeah, this is just a TD2 with a face lift.
Which is exactly what I want... from Sprint.
basically not the TP2
did I get blocked?
I guess not.
what a surprise
i did
hahah, I think everyone who reads engadget knows that. How is the iPhone these days?
should i trade my omnia in for this? i need something that will work in india
Why would you want to go to India? There's... Indians there... and... (well I'll leave it to your imagination)
Yeah, maybe. Though India does have a CDMA network as well as GSM and depending where you are at, your existing Omnia probably works.
If u enjoy being bored to tears by both the spec sheet and looks, this is the phone for you. It will slip right into your generic beige lifestyle.
as opposed to to the "omg I just got the ability to send mms on my iphone" lifestyle?
@Blad3 Nice.
I do think, though, that it's sad that this has the same old boring 528 MHz processor that HTC is wearing out. The Leo has Snapdragon. If this is the CDMA version of the Leo, it should have Snapdragon too! It supports CDMA too! After all, it came from the main creator of the CDMA technology, Qualcomm.

Hmm, it's probably possible to reskin and respray in beige.
I am lovin' the pre-loaded opera, and surprised MS isn't hassling OEMs that do it.
Or, god forbid, putting work into pIE
HTC actually pre-loads Opera. It's part of their touch flo upgrade from the base WinMo.
Which is a damn good idea. Its the only compliant browser that can even touch the iPhone in rendering, and intuitive touch interface on a resistive screen (Palm also being capacitive). Beats the hell out of IE!
lame Verizon give us the leo
Sorry... I just can't do another WinMo phone until at least WinMo 7 is out. These incremental upgrades/facelifts just aren't cutting it for me anymore. I do prefer Windows phones as they feel more like a computer than a toy or PDA, but the bugginess is killing me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 6.5 is built on a different kernel than 7 will be/ is, right?
no bugginess for any winmo phone I've ever used. Maybe i'm just the better user.
I had no problem running WinMo4 on my Moto Q but im running 6.1 on my HTC and its buggy. I wish it wasnt cuz i love the phone but having to reset it a few times a week kinda sucks. Its not like its a deal breaker but that coupled with the shitty 400 some mhz cpu and it gets annoying. Thats the reason i wont get this. 2 years from now even if i get the WinMo7 rom from XDA im still stuck with a 528.
could someone tell the difference between this phone and the htc touch2 ???
Yes, I'm sure allot of people can tell the difference between this and the touch pro 2.
hum if you look on google there is a phone called the htc touch2. I believe the htc touch pro2 has a physical keyboard, that's not what i'm talking about.
You mean te Touch Diamond 2? This is for a CDMA carrier and has a bigger screen - I believe the GSM TD2 has a 3.2" WVGA screeen.
Anyone know if Sprint is getting this anytime soon?
Sorry, I had a failed attempt at sarcasm :P
No, he didn't mean the Touch Diamond 2, mark. He meant the Touch2. HTC's follow up to their early (before the TP and TD, after the TyTN II).
@Lionel Y: So far they're both yet to be released AFAIK, but the main differences are just screen size and styling. The Touch2 looks more "budget" to me.. to be frank.
They'll both have the (by now) stale 528 Quaqcom shipset. Since I have a Diamond and a Touch Pro I'm waiting for the next internal spec bump. Though I am lusting over the wider and over all larger TP2 display.
A V-Cast button? You have to be kidding me.
I look at it as another button that could be mapped to something else. How about the camera?
