New VTech cordless can download cellphone address books over Bluetooth
We've seen plenty of landline phones that can also double as Bluetooth headsets, but VTech's new DS6321-3 takes it to the next level: it can also pull down your phone's address book, meaning you'll never have to remember a number again. Apart from that it's the usual cordless phone stuff, with DECT 6.0, three handsets, and -- they still have these! -- an answering machine, but it's really the Bluetooth stuff that's interesting here, so much so that VTech's even promoting this guy for use in homes without landlines. Should be out now for $100.

VTech just kicked in, yo!

"VTech's even promoting this guy for use in homes without landlines"
what does that mean? has it got built-in GSM/3G too or what?
no. It means that using bluetooth, it will connect to your mobile phone and then you can use the phone around the house, without the mobile phone frying your brain. ;)
well that's a bit silly, firstly it's bigger than almost all cellphones so it's not as handy to use, secondly you can put your mobile on loudspeaker when youre home so it's not near your brain and thirdly there is no proof that mobile phone radiation can be harmful.
That plus Google Voice completes the picture.
[big problem was the multiple same-line phones I have around the house and how, using cell, those could still be used - tada!]
"...thirdly there is no proof that mobile phone radiation can be harmful."
Reminds me of the Tobacco industry. it is not addictive and it doesn't cause cancer.
Do watch this movie... "Thank you for smoking"
I kind of like the idea of not being permanently affixed to my cell phone while I am trying to relax at my house, even if it is connected using some invisible blue teeth magic.
what they really need to do is include a universal adapter. The last time I was in the states I almost picked up one of these multiroom sets (quite cheap, if you ask me). But for the US power adapters. I wonder how much does it actually cost the manufacturers to add this.
One of the most favorite asked for items in India from relatives coming in from abroad is a cordless phone.
"what they really need to do is include a universal adapter" -- Uh, no. No, they don't. That would add a *lot* to the price of the phone--and not just the cost of the hardware (which I'd guess at $5-$10). They'd drive up their support costs (US customer: "I can't get the AC adapter to plug in"), their liability costs (US customer: "I burned myself trying to push the AC adapter into the socket"), and their regulatory compliance costs (Indian Department of Telecom: "You sold a cordless phone with an Indian power adapter, but you never submitted it to the DoT").
Just an FYI. The "answering machine' function does not work with the cellular side, on any of these systems. I replaced my landline with an ATT Bluetooth system about a year ago.
It acts as an extension to your cell phone. Like a bluetooth headset. Just keep the cell close to the base unit.
My question is, can I use my Bluetooth earpiece on landline calls with this? It would only make sense that if I can pair it with a cell that I'd be able to pair it with another device, but, I make no assumptions.
Why do neary all reasonably priced landline phones look like they've been designed by Stevie Wonder?
People still use landlines? Kidding, kidding. I mean that's actually pretty useful for an office phone, to keep all contacts synced up. Suits would absolutely get tons of use from this.
Why only now? I've been wanting this for years.
Tell me about it. My VTech cordless phones from 2002 don't even share address books among themselves. (I had a pair of Sony phones that could do that, but they had some sort of reliability problem, so I returned them and got the VTechs.)
Seriously, I've had enough of the silver on black theme from the late 90's.
Yes.
What about the LS6245, are they going to refresh that model and add the phonebook download from cell feature to that phone... That phone looks nicer
Are you sure that it's the DS6321-3 not DS6361-3
Will this work with an iPhone? I used to have a Uniden Bluetooth one and it stopped working w/ my iPhone after the OS 2.0 for the iPhone came out.
It will work with iPhone but not iPod Touch, as the iPod Touch only support the A2DP bluetooth profile (only for audio out). I was thinking getting a iPod Touch and set up a Skype phone through this system as well, but no go!
I have the AT&T branded phone (TL92378) , which is exactly the same, and I believe it's made by VTech as well.
I love this system.
Before I have this BT cordless phone, I have been missing important cellphone calls at home (if my cellphone is downstairs and I am upstairs or vice versa). Now, I can use any of the cordless handsets to pickup cellphone calls.
Two, I use this system as a cellphone signal booster. There are black spots in my house that the cell signal is very weak and will cut off conversation midway. Now, I just leave my cellphone at the spot with best reception and I can make cell calls anywhere in the house with the cordless handset.
Why not make landline calls at home you ask, because I have tones of unused nationwide minutes on my cellphone plan. Why pay my long distance carrier?
Got this phone, works great with my Samsung Jack, my wifes LG Xenon? Not so much. Connects, downloads contacts, even rings but as soon as you answer the Xenon kicks this phone out and takes over. Nobody's given me a reason yet.
