Windows 7 OEM pricing revealed by Newegg

Well, it's not the fifty bucks that OEMs are said to be paying for a copy of Windows on the average PC, but the pricing for individual OEM copies of Windows 7 has now finally been revealed by the folks at Newegg and, as expected, it's still a good deal cheaper than the full retail price. Things start at just $99.99 (after a $10 discount) for a full version of Windows 7 Home Premium (compared to $199 retail), and move up to $134.99 for the OEM Professional edition, and $174.99 for the Ultimate edition (also after a pre-order discount that's good until October 20th). Of course, there are a few limitations if you decide to go the OEM route yourself (like not being able to transfer the license between PCs, and a complete lack of an upgrade option), but we're guessing that extra $100+ back in your pocket will more than make up for those drawbacks with plenty of folks.

Thanks, Galen! I just ordered my "Full" version of 7 Professional for $29 from the number you provided. Also, they offered a downloadable version or the actual product shipped to your door for $4.99.
Galen, a thousand thank yous! I just ordered my copy and canceled my Digital River one.
Thank you so much, Galen. I just called and am getting the full version for $30. Can't beat that!
The pricing in the article is off a bit. Windows Home Premium is listed at 119.99 for full retail price on Microsofts website. Windows 7 Professional is 199.99. Article suggests Home Premium is 199 retail....

Forgot to add... http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/compare-editions/default.aspx is the pricing source for retail. At first I thought maybe it was for upgrade copies, but it is not.
The article is correct. You are not. You are looking at the upgrade prices...

Seems to be the cheapest way to buy Win 7 Ultimate.
sweet deal but I think i'll roll with the 30 dollars for college students. :)
Or you could just download Windows 7 from one of your favorite torrent trackers and have it for free, like the rest of us sane people did about a year ago.
But I don't want to be a little mooch.
According to that site for the 30.00 students deal, the product is not an academic license but full retail, but then it's billed as an invoice? Whats the difference? Wouldn't the 'custom' installation be the same as a full install?
Doh, I mean its billed as an upgrade on the invoice.
so ... should i get premium or professional for 30 dollars?
Home Premium: All the Media without the connectivity.
(Home Premium has Media Center, doesn't support Remote desktop or joining a Domain)
Professional: All of the connectivity without the media
(Pro has Remote Desktop and Domain support but no Media Center)
So it really depends on what your needs are.
Ordeith, that was true for Vista but not for 7. 7 Pro now has Media Center, etc.—it's a superset of Home Premium's functions.
I am corrected.

I am actually glad I was wrong. I don't need to use Windows in another language and I don't need bitlocker.
So knowing that I can save myself $50. Thank you for pointint that out, Jay C.
You can buy Vista Ultimate for $1879 and get a free upgrade to 7 Ultimate.
Just a thought.
what a deal.
A) L4D2 comes out in 2 months. wait
B) this is not relevant
Or you could just buy Vista Premium 64 Bit OEM for 89.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116677&cm_re=windows_vista-_-32-116-677-_-Product and get the Windows 7 upgrade
suddenly the vista ultimate steal isnt so hot anymore. they need to lower the price for vista lovers.

I reordered from Newegg the Win 7 Pro Retail version in July for $99. Glad i jumped then.
Will the OEM version work while running through parallels on my Mac?
yup.
more reasonable than vista
i prefer to pay 29$ for snow leopard lolololol
And run it on intel hardware, that got upmarked $500, because it has a picture of a fruit on the case? "lolololol"
is a low price to pay , better that having a pc zombie ,waiting to be hacked and rip your bank account .
by the way there 2 macbooks pro and a imac in the house .
an apple a day keeps doctor away
OEM might sound like a decent deal, but remember that OEM license is locked to 1 PC, while retail license can be moved to another PC. I don't know how hard MS is enforcing this in WGA, but something to think about.
As for those that are bragging how they can get Windows 7 for free, maybe you should post some serials here too so everybody can benefit from it. Fact is most regular people that want Windows 7 upgrade would have to pay retail. So bragging about how you can get it for free means nothing.
Snow Leopard sucks! You can't even get the Apple remote to work right. I can't wait to get my hands on W7 and a new Thinkpad.
Pays to know people who work at Microsoft, retail boxed Windows 7 Ultimate FULL version are expected to be $50 to employees. :)
I didn't think ever that the original window prices are cheap like that 100$
I bought OEM Vista when it was released; I think it's a great way to get a legit copy of Windows if you're happy to build your own PC. I have had to reinstall/upgrade hardware a couple of times, and even when I had to ring MS for activation, it was no biggy.
Galen,
You were extremely helpful in regards to your post, just ordered Win7 Professional for $37 total, including shipping. All you need is your student ID and your student email. Thanks again!
I got mine for less than $60 because I pre-ordered.
And right now, I'm using the Windows 7 RC for free, and have been for a few months... So I don't get all the "trying to compete with Snow Leopard" stuff. I was a Mac user and I *switched* for Windows 7.
Yes. It's that good. If a Mac user can't sit down and give Windows 7 it's due, then they're just a fanatic and not really judging on the merits of the OS. Windows 7 is good enough to make me give up OS X, primarily because I can run Windows 7 on less expensive hardware with more features than any MacBook.
I like OS X, and have been a loyal Mac user for a while. . . But Windows 7 is going to change things.
Does anyone know if you can order more than one with the student discount?
Is there 1 per person per .edu account?
Would love to mooch off my friend and get a cheap copy.
Of course I offered to pay for his if he could get 1 for me.
thanks for sharing this information
