BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac releasing October 2
A tiny little beta leak earlier this month let BlackBerry-toting Mac fans knew that something good was coming in the near future, and now we know it's very near indeed (though a bit later than expected). On October 2 RIM will release BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac, specifically at 1:00pm EST. That means instead of wrapping up your busy work-week being productive you can instead spend the afternoon fighting long download queues and playing around getting this app configured -- for purely work-related purposes of course, like syncing with iCal, Address Book, and automatically backing up contacts. Just don't tell your boss you'll also be able to sync your iTunes collection to your handset, including album art, something that should make Pre-owning Bob down the hall a little jealous. Again, the fun starts Friday afternoon at 1:00 EST. Clear your calendars accordingly.

Good stuff... my girlfriend has been waiting for something like this for her iMac.
Are you paying attention Palm? THIS is how you treat your customers. By actually releasing a native Mac client. Not by screwing Mac users for over a decade by leaving it up to Apple to support your devices (for years with iSync and now with iTunes). Get your act together and at least pretend like you want our money.
In fairness there's a bit of a difference between RIM, with a fair chunk of the market, record profits, and popular devices, compared to Palm, with a tiny fraction of the market, a company all but dead 12 months ago, and a device not even released worldwide yet. I can imagine the bottom line for Palm is that they'll support Mac when it's economically viable. RIM have had no excuse!
There are the honest and then there are the thieves. Palm chooses to be part the latter. Palm using iTunes is like going to the neighbors garage at night, picking the lock and then siphoning the gas out of the vehicle's tank to run its own vehicle and then saying the actions are justified because they're neighbors living on the same block.
Oh well, Palm stopped caring about its user base years ago, so I guess Pre owners won't have much to look forward to.
Are you paying attention, Apple? This is the kind of app you need to manage PIM data on a portable device. Look, wonder of wonders: Notes and to-do lists! Is it possible that these two kinds of items have CATEGORIES?
Meanwhile, the iPhone is a Unix computer for which the only management tool is a jukebox app.
When I installed a new hard drive on my MacBook the other day, I knew there was a reason that I didn't bother Boot Camping it.
And here it is :-)
Why don't they just hack iTunes? Ohh yeah I remember .. it's a serious company
I made the mistake of using the beta version to attempt a sync with my iMac (10.5.8). The sync experienced an error and now I have duplicate address book entries that I cannot delete from my blackberry nor can I delete by attempting to resync. I hope that I can remedy my situation with the official release.
It's a security bug that causes that - BB thinks you've secured those IDs. The only way to truly remove them is via a wipe or by using the backup/restore feature on the Windows DM to erase them (and then only sometimes works and you'll still have to wipe the device).
"instead spend the afternoon fighting long download queues"
A legitimate use for a torrent...
Ah finally. This is the only reason I've had to Bootcamp windows. There are things that you just need the BB Desktop Manager for. For some of us, RIM's about to eliminate the need to use Windows, at home at least.
How long has this been in the works? I remember back when I worked at T-Mobile less than 5 years ago where I heard RIM bought out a company that made 3rd party Mac Synching app for Blackberries. That was 5 years ago exactly actually. It took them almost 5 years to make this app??
Any reason my comments mysteriously disappeared?
will this work on non intel based mac? The only thing mentioned was that it was compatible with 10.5.5 and up.
This is what Apple should do with iPhone/iPod syncing. Get rid of the iTunes bloat and put iPhone and iPod syncing in a separate app. Looks very nice.
So. Let me know when they release a Linux version. That would be news!
So This and Stargate Universe. It's ganna be a good Oct. 2nd
guys im thinking of getting a blackberry does anyone know if any of the upcoming models like the bold 2 will be able to play music downloaded through itunes??
Seems like you can only sync "un-protected" songs from iTunes... Nothing purchased from the iTunes Store, only imported into iTunes.
I can move some songs that I purchased on iTunes to my Storm. But some I can't. I don't exactly know why.
oh i figured it out its because they are DRM protected. any song bought after january 2009 is most likely drm free, if it is drm protected itunes has he option up upgrading the song to drm free for 30 cents a song....meaning you paid the 1.30 for he song like most cost now

How do you upgrade a song?
I was under the impression that all .acc items bought from apple were protected.
That makes sense though. But some of the songs I bought from iTunes that are able to play on my storm were purchased way before January 09.
Here is the link to upgrade your iTunes library to DRM-free content:

I just upgraded mine, and now all music is available on my Bold.
Thanks again guys!
Thanks for the link!
I can now play my music on my xbox! I've waited a long time to be able to do this!
Much appreciated
to be honest im not sure yet but that was just my assumption and something i read on a site. i actualy have an iphone right now and im planning on getting the new bold when it comes out so thats why i had to figure this out. im pretty sure that any song purchased after jan 2009 will work, and if theyre drm protected then they will not work. i dont know if all songs on itunes before jan 2009 were drm protected, hopefully someone can answer this

I just swtiched last week from my storm to an iPhone so it doesn't really matter. Thanks though. I figured if I could take DRM off some songs I could finally play them on my xbox.
It's up now!!!! w00t! w00t!
Just tried to sync everything...and it all failed. Awesome.
