BlackBerry Storm 2 dummies coming to Best Buy around October 25?
We've long suspected that the Storm 2 would be bowing in the next couple months, within earshot of the original Storm's one-year anniversary -- and new evidence suggests that even if we can't get an actual device in October, we'll at least be able to make clicking sounds with our mouths as we amble around a non-functional display unit (you laugh, but it's our idea of a good Saturday night). Boy Genius Report has been slipped a Best Buy inventory screen -- a familiar sight in the phone scooping world -- that reports an in-stock date for Storm 2 dummies of October 25. Those dummy units can end up arriving before or after the actual phones, and considering that we've seen other evidence pointing to an October launch, this could be the real deal. Tao envy might be a problem by the time this hits, but we're sure there'll be a few folks willing to give RIM a mulligan on its touchscreen dealings.

The title doesn't say 2!! But I love you anyway.
Way to make me look stupid.
Silly Engadget,
The dummies are the people BUYING the Storm 2.
Provided you liked the haptic feedback, the original Storm was a good phone. My neighbor uses it for business and seems to really love it. The Storm 2 sounds great on paper, may attract my attention once my AT&T contract ends, although whether I'll get my soul back or not is another problem.
Verizon and Sprint keep getting so many positive reviews while my AT&T service keeps getting worse and worse. Signal reception across the neighborhood is deteriorating while coverage around the area has only slightly improved. Verizon, meet Sprint's rates and I'll sign up. The Storm and the Pre are oh so tempting.
Given that Sprint is the cheapest and Verizon is the most expensive- them matching rates are not likely to happen.
The Palm Pre is the way to go based on value and features. You get free roaming on Verizon's network (as long as you don't abuse it) so you basically get the same coverage for a much lower price. My wife and I got two Pres and pay less now than what we were paying for two dumb-phones with a texting plan on Verizon. We couldn't be happier.
@Bob
That's good to hear. The only positive feature I seem to have with AT&T is RollOver, but given I have an iPhone, I personally never dig into the minutes we have accumulated over the past year. Others use them, but not to the extent where the plan is truly useful. I use the network for news and non-verbal communication, which generally works well for me. However, every so often I get a call from a friend and of course, the wireless congestion in my house forces the call to drop. Sometimes the call will hold up and I'll just hear muffled, warped sounds until I leave the room. Crazy. It was more obvious after I switched to the an AirPort Base Station router, but it was still unpleasant beforehand.
I didn't have call quality issues with Sprint's network itself, just problems with the handsets available to me. Coupled with Sprint's support and I was out the door. AT&T service was pretty good when I switched last August, but sadly, I too have grown frustrated with their thinning capabilities.
And yet their services (and network performance) are neck and neck. Verizon is slightly better, but of course, that comes with the a premium. Should they lower their prices just a tad, they'd attract legions of iPhone users like myself. I left Sprint for their once terrible service, but I'm gonna have to consider switching back to them too if the idiots running AT&T don't wise up soon. I don't want to buy a MicroCell if I should already have the "nation's fastest 3G network". It's extremely slow and unreliable in my house, and only somewhat usable when it's not convenient for me to use my phone at all. Shame.
Was meant as a reply to cocoviper.
Guess Best Buy passed on some dummy comment systems to Engadget. That would explain a lot. If only the "Remember Me" option actually worked.
I'm going to LOL so hard when they arrived with wifi disabled.
touch pro 2 or storm 2. choices.
Do you need/prefer a keyboard when composing long messages like emails? If so: TP2; If not: Storm 2. Although, given the way the last one released in terms of OS problems, personally I'd be a little unsure of the investment in the Storm 2. That's not to say they haven't improved on said problems, but I mean "fool me once" and all that
As soon as my AT&T contracts expire, I'm switching to Verizon. I'm so tired of AT&'s BS that I'm through with them.
Guys, you won't have to wait for your contracts from AT&T to expire. AT&T is getting the Storm 2 as well. The Blackberry 9520 is its name.
Okay:
a) That was never actually proven. While that video that tester (or whatever he was) leaked a month ago said it was coming to AT&T said that, there has been absolutely zero chatter or intelligence culled from AT&T's systems that this is indeed the case.
b) The last Storm came in a GSM variant which was the international version. The same is going to happen with the Storm 2 (aka 9520)
c) In an effort to "not confuse the market" (as the suits would say), Hell would effectively have to freeze over, thaw, and then freeze again before AT&T decided to offer a touch-screen only smartphone of comparable size to Cupertino's red-headed step-child. Which means AT&T customers may get things like the Diamond 2 (Pure), but they're not getting Storms and they're damn sure not getting the Touch HD2 (Leo)
I thought they already released a non-functioning Storm 2 a year ago. It was called the Blackberry Storm.
Ok, so i work at best buy. More specifically in the cell phone section, which is why i have engadget to default pop up whenever i log on. I read it everyday. So, seeing as how im in the big blue box, i typed in that sku to see what my system brought up. And it's for a LG GLANCE. Everything else is the same, except the name. Someone please stop butchering our RSS screens, and get it right please.
What day do they report the Storm 1 apologies shipping?
