Motorola Tao (Sholes) purportedly seen running Android, traversing America
All we've got to go on here are a few screen images, but at a cursory glance, they sure match what we expect the Motorola Sholes (or Tao, as it were) to look like. The biggest news is that Android is alive and well, and while we're still waiting for an official release date, things are looking up for this to be the outfit's second-ever Google-powered device. Have a peek in the read link for a few more Google Maps shots as well as a glimpse at the 1,390mAh battery, and yes, it's completely fine if you bookmark the last page of the thread and refresh it continuously until actual hardware shots slip out. Not saying that's "normal," but hey...

That thread is full of misinformation. NO Hardware has been shown. I'm shocked this is even getting news, considering all that's been seen is Market from Donut (1.6), which I've been using on a CyanogenMod ROM for a week now. That guy doesn't have the hardware.
The last picture is of the hardware, though not a very good picture. But the form factor and silver edge and square corners clearly look like the early pics we've all seen of the Sholes. Unless you have some other specific things to point at that make it an obvious fake or some other phone, I would imagine that this is indeed pics of the Sholes in action.
check howard forums (original source), it's def the sholes, there are hardware pics later in the thread - also, this was known to be running android for a while, why is this all of a sudden news?
How about you geniuses stop relying on engadget for everything. They post what they can and do you the solid of posting it as quickly as they can. With a little research you would find that this is indeed the sholes.

Read the headline. The story is about software, not hardware.
Moto has banned Windows Mobile for good.
Is it too much of an assumption to make that this handset will also be as grossly overpriced as the Cliq? Sad to see the big M's last hope fail on delusional pricing.

THERE'S STILL A LITTLE TIME LEFT MOTO! CHANGE THE DEALS YOU'VE CUT WITH THE CARRIERS AND MAKE THE CLIQ AND THE TAO 50 BUCKS OR LESS ON CONTRACT!
Ryan Block abandoned this site, please leave him to his gdgts. Sweetness is my weakness.
The carriers decide how to subsidize a phone. It's going free in the UK, so blame TMobile
Don't you mean Motorola is live and well?
alive*
damn you motorola for that Sholes name. i will NEVER ever get the association with "as'Sholes" out of my head for that particular model.
That's not the final name of the product. It will probably be known to the general public as the Tao
How do we know that this is really snapshots of the Sholes? I mean...you can't see shit...
There is no way to tell in that thread if that is ACTUALLY the Sholes. No pictures are shown.
I keep thinking of Sh*t holes for Sholes. Hopefully they change the name on release. And not to keep hating on Moto, but the pictures that have been leaked elsewhere that may or may not be the Sholes are pretty unattractive, IMO.
If you go to the linked PhoneArena article, it includes 6 pictures. The last one actually shows the device in the light, though not all of it, and not very well. But it definitely looks like the Sholes from the preview pics we've all seen. Other than that though, it's not a terribly interesting set of pics. The one positive bit of news though is that it does appear to be the Sholes, actually running, actually existing, rather than being some fictional unicorn beast.
@jakmg,
the name will most likely be Tao when it goes to release.
FAKE!!!!
This is an obvious photoshop job. You can tell its fake because the shadows are all wrong.
This looks a lot like the scene in the movie Never Back Down where Baja wanted to change her name to crystal because of a dream she had.
your an idiot. don't post comments like this.
I agree with other comments saying that he should have taken better pics to really prove it was the Sholes. But, he did state that more pics would come so we'll see if it's real or fake soon enough.
I totally bookmarked that shit.
While I can assure you that these pics are not fakes, I don't think it was the intent of the posters to "prove" anything, but rather to fuel the already rabid interest in this device. That is the nature of the beast when dealing with a tightly controlled release such as this one.

Looks like the Sholes to me...

@George
How the hell did you find that snapshot? It is EPIC!
Hmmm...we must have mutual friends George... ;)
is this going the run the motorola 'blurr' skin?? because that skinn is awfull..
No...it is not going to run MOTOBLUR...it is classified as a "Google Experience" device, meaning it will have the Android 2.0 "Eclair" UI with little to no carrier branding and limitations.
Instead of noting about a 1390 mAH battery, which is not relevant if the voltage is not included, you should talk about a 5,1wh. This is simply excellent for a mobile phone. That is why my samsung nc10 netbook lasts so long compared to the old asus netbooks, its voltage was higher thus it offers more battery life.
This battery makes me want the sholes/tao more.
One little flaw in the buttons design: there are situations when i use my phone with a single hand, my left hand. The return button placed left will bother me for sure. I understand that we may need it as close to the keyboard as possible, but why not not make the keyboard slide to the right of the screen instead of left ?
When will it be available in europe ?
whats that triangle in the notification bar?
