Sony thinks its "aspirational" PSP Go might encourage an uptick in PSP-3000 purchases

We've heard plenty of arguments for high priced products before -- many of them from Sony, oddly enough -- but this has to one of the odder ones. Sony UK's Claire Blackhouse says that Sony was actually expecting a greater backlash from retailers than it got in regards to the PSP Go, and that many retailers are seeing the new launch as a way to get consumers into stores, at which point they'll realize they're too poor for a PSP Go and might end walking out with a PSP-3000 instead. Sadly, the logic sounds pretty sound, though Claire's own suggestions that some families might get a PSP Go for dad and PSP 3000s for the kids seems a little fantastical -- kinda hard for dad to rock those Hannah Montana UMDs, yeah Sony?

Basically. Problem being if I didn't want a PSP 3000 before, the fact that there's a PSP Go out that I think is too expensive isn't going to change my mind and make me suddenly want a PSP 3000.

Besides, I bought my PSP slim used (refurb) and haven't had a problem.

It also "feels" substancial in your hand. Hold a PSPin one hand and an iPhone in the other.
You just have to look at the apple fan and go, "and you paid what for this?".

Screw the Go, the only Go ing it will do is going back.

What are you talking about? Having both a PSP and an iPhone, the iPhone definitely feels more like a high(er) end device.

The PSP feels meh, especially the newer lighter ones.

What Sony need to do to make the PSP Go sell is give retailers game specific vouchers codes to allow buyers to download the game from the playstation store - the retailers win as they get to sell something, the consumer wins as there would be competition between the retailers selling the codes, providing lower prices.

Man of course ppl would still get the 3000, there really isnt much the go can offer that would make me pick it over a 3000.
Now remeber that old photoshop picture of the "PSP 2"? the one with the full sliding screen, square, GORGEOUS!... if that was real, I dont care if i was poor, id rob an old lady to get money to get it! but the PSPgo.... nah thanks i pass...

While I know Sony would never do it, and the details are there for your imagination. Some sort of transfer cable or external drive would have made the world of difference.

Give me a way to transfer (and keep the original UMD's) on to the GO and you would have 250 of my hard earned dollars Sony.

The all digital age isn't here yet and the physical media era isn't gone. Untill then somehow companits are going to have figure out a way to give consumers the choice of both.

Seriously, these guys running Sony are supposed to be smart..
