Taser International's six-shot Shockwave demonstration

If you're looking to incapacitate with electricity, Taser International is your go-to source. And while single-shot (or even triple shot) weapons have their place, what do you do when faced with a whole crowd of no-goodniks? For instance, take that Travis County, Texas constable who zapped a 72 year old woman this spring (she dared him, remember). What if he was confronted by a whole van full of Ragin' Grannies? That, dear readers, is what Shockwave is for. Each module holds six Tazers seated in a twenty-degree arc, and multiple units can either be stacked horizontally or daisy chained for simultaneous deployment. The unit is activated by a push-button control box that allows the operator to stand up to 100 meters away, and the maximum range is 25 feet. Never before has electrocution been this easy. Video after the break.

So for this to work the unruly crowd would have to walk into it? Can't see any flaws in that plan!
Don't tase me bro!
They would be used in areas like the security checkpoints at the airport. They aren't for crowd control.
Actually The device in the video shoots ribbons. But for the sake of demonstration he used the close range tazer option. So in reality what would happen is some poor sole(s) would walk into a room and this devise would shoot 6 separate tazer ribbons at a distance of max 25 feet each.
just like a hand tazer there are two modes, close range (which you saw in the video) and long range where it shoots the ribbons
Finally, a viable solution to the Teabaggers.
I love the description of it. Remote Area Denial System. Yeah....
It's looks like Taser took a lot of design inspiration from the claymore mine.
Might be nice for drugsdealers to use as a home protection-from-cops device, take down the swat team in one fell swoop.
A new meaning to distributed denial of service!
What happens when some poor sap steps in front of it and gets hit with six 'ribbons' all at once? I mean, they say its for crowd control but there's no individual aiming so if someone rushes the module then they could get hit by a bunch of tasers at once. In that situation, non-lethal force becomes very difficult to achieve as the likelihood of death climbs exponentially.
Being electrocuted sucks. *****ZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!!!!*****
Police might as well be caring around missile launchers now...
Remember, these are NON-lethal items . . . in blueangel-speak that means "they cause no permanent harm." In what way are they to be compared with missile launchers?!?
Less-lethal, not Non-lethal. Non-lethal weapons would be unmodified Nerf guns.
Non-lethal is the correct term.
Firearms are lethal force because firearms are designed to kill, make no mistake about it.
Tasers are non-lethal, because they are specifically designed to not kill. You can show how a Taser is manufactured to operate in such a way as to cause incapacitation and not death.
The fact that non-lethal force sometimes causes death doesn't make it lethal force.
If someone were deathly allergic to peppers, and you used pepper spray on them and they died, would you consider pepper spray lethal force? No, because pepper spray is not designed to kill.
If you overdosed on Tylenol and died, would they consider Tylenol lethal medication? No, because it is not designed to kill.
The term lethal vs. non-lethal is meant to distinguish the design and intention of the force, not its unintended outcomes.
@solarbuddy the comparison is defined by two words: overkill and inappropriate
The term barry was looking for is "less than lethal". Close.
Rubber shells are also designed not to kill, yet they are designated as "less-lethal" because they CAN. A taser can also kill, although as we've seen it doesn't usually happen unless you get tasered more than once. I think they should be labeled less-lethal for the simple reason that it might deter police from thinking they're fine to go tasing people multiple times, but I don't know.
weapons on ENGADGET?
When can I buy one ?
I've got a front yard I want to defend.
tazers vs zombies?
the squirrels in my yard will be sorry...
Oh boy, a Remote Area Denial System!
Thank you, you answered the question I have been searching for which was whether or not to place keywords when blog commenting. mirc . mirc indir
soo, what happens if you're standing 5 feet infront and you get hit by two or three (or more). Does that mean you die?
Depends on a lot of things. I'd guess you'd crap your pants in either case.
For that question, we are going to go ahead and forward you over to are legal department... um... yeah....
It means that in that case, some of those darts could be considered "overkill"... so to speak. Chances are, you won't die from it. People have been shocked by more than one Taser at once and they were fine. People have been shocked half a dozen times in a row, and survived to tell about the torture.
Besides, the guy operating the device would hopefully deploy it before you got close enough for that to be a concern. And if you're really worried about it, stay away from restricted areas and you'll be fine.
Engadget covered this subject before.
TASERS DON'T KILL PEOPLE.
Its the unnassisted fall !
Yeah who needs the electric chair anymore when taser has us covered. All we need to do is line em' up one by one and hit em' with the taser shotgun ͭ ͫ
Was anyone else disappointed by that video?
Yes. Where was the simultaneous tase-ing of six people?
why is Engadget promoting weapons, shame on you Engadget
Because they're cool.
Weapons are the ultimate gadgets, especially ones that let you incapacitate someone, let them get up and shake it off, and then do it to them all over again!
Why does Engadget "promote" texting? That kills dramatically more people than tasers.
thats alot of grannies to zap.
Remind me to be no where near this thing...
That would defeat the purpose won't it....
Now brian, just come over here and stand in front of this black box for a second...
Allow me to rephrase, remind me to be nowhere within this thing's radius.
Well that's the point really.
i like how when asked how much the unit costs, the first reaction by the demo guy is to laugh. follow the rules: if you have to ask... you probably cant afford it.
Funny !
If you go to their website and read the "warning" documents. The civilians should "...not point or use on elderly people and pregnant woman...".
Also, they advise not to fire at genitals unless it's "lawfully required" ???
"Eh ! Sorry but I'm required by law to fire at your testicles ! Where you planning to have any kids ?"
But for law enforcement, nothing is mentioned !
I guess for them everything is considered game !
This is why I have electrically insulated pants.
Yet another reason to be grateful for my atrophied testicles.
so, let me get this straight. with the push of a button it fires off all six tasers at once? . so in all probability with a 3 stack of those. you are going to get 3 people with 6 tasers on them? less lethal my ass.
Whats wrong with current home security systems:
1) it may have a cameras which is nice but it will simply record them killing you.
2) I may make a loud noise which will wake you from a wonderful slumber and have you in a panic.
3) I will send a signal to the alarm company who will then call the police for you, who will take a nice long drive to you home only to find you dead.
-
How can this add to your home security system and not take for a good night sleep.
place these on the ceiling, one at every window and door, set the alarm and go to sleep.
should someone break in, it will shoot them and the next morning whild having you coffee you can call the police to take the body away.
I have a better system at home !
I use a TAPE-24
It's actually made of two 12 gauge shotguns taped together next to the front and back door.
It shoot once when the burglar enters and again if they try to leave !
Will this work on zombies and/or robots? I think that might come in handy in a near-future dooms day scenario.
Dammit, I was going to suggest Zombies.
