HTC Imagio launches on Verizon: WinMo 6.5 and VCAST TV on October 6
Those Imagio rumors have proven to be deliciously correct, with Verizon officially announcing the beastly Windows Mobile 6.5 set for availability on October 6 -- the first day 6.5 devices will officially be available anywhere. HTC's latest CDMA device features a spacious wide VGA display clocking in at 3.6 inches, a 5 megapixel autofocus cam, quadband EDGE plus HSPA 2100 for when you're looking for a little connectivity abroad, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the very latest iteration of TouchFLO 3D featuring social network integration, but the most interesting feature might be its support for MediaFLO-based VCAST TV -- a first for HTC and Windows Mobile. Interest parties need only wait until next Tuesday to latch onto an Imagio online, while retail stores will be taking delivery on the 20th of the month -- either way, you'll be paying $199.99 on contract after rebate.

At sucking, I take it.
Back on topic. I like the look of this better than the Touch HD, and I am assuming the specs are at least a little better than the Touch HD. Also, taking that VZW won't be getting the Touch Diamond II. I guess the decision now comes down between this, the TP2, and the Omnia II.
iThought so...
Heh. See what iDid there?
@sacapuntas: You are such a Troll. Apestas!
HTC, an small/inferior Taiwanese/Chinese manufacturer of myTouch3G, makes really sh!tty harmful radiation-emitting products, just like any other Chinese/Taiwanese POS...

This is like the touch pro 2 but with no qwerty keyboard. Hum, what should i get next week?
Does any one care about Vcast (and all other Vcrap apps) i mean they cost so much to use the Vcast TV costs what 15$ a month and its not even real TV, Verizon is charging way to much money for this stuff if they had sprint prices they would kill any other company.
On another note i might buy this but i am going to try to hold off till January i hear good things are coming to Verizon that month.
@ bigmatt
Vcast TV is real tv. You must be thinking of vcast videos. It 2 different products.
This looks like a winner!
Oh wait, it's running WinMo...Where is the Android love for Verizon, HTC?
I'm desperately holding out for a Tegra powered Android phone from Verizon.
DESPERATELY!
Windows Mobile 6.5 doesn't look half bad. 6.1 and earlier were the ones that blew. I think 6.5 and beyond will be fine and easy to use (speaking purely out of internet reviews and videos).
This is, of course, assuming the phone and its hardware is good.
@9ft midget
6.5 is still lipstick on a pig as far as phone usability goes. Some nice tweaks, but still far from the mark...way too much of the stylus-designed UI in basic functions. (Calendar, Contacts, Mail, etc) Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge WinMo fan, and have been since my Axim X5, but it's not something I recommend to very many people.
HTC has actually replaced a lot of this with their latest manila versions. But we still need WM7 to see real change.
it looks very nice, although I hate winmo at least its 6.5, but thats a sexy phone *wants*
Looks like HTC wants their all current and future phones to resemble the Sense skin on Android. I can work with that. I'm not a fan of WinMo my self, but TouchFLO has always impressed me. Man HTC makes some good stuff.
this is a nice piece of tech but no flash for the camera is a non starter for me.
You make it sound like flash on a phone's camera is worth anything to begin with. It's not like it ever helps much anyway.
They must be kidding to price $200 for a Windows Mobile phone.
Who are they trying to compete? Against MOTOBLUR?
$200 is the standard starting price for a smartphone right now. WinMo isn't that bad although I would prefer Android.
wow, 200 is a great price, there's one good thing that apple has done with the smartphone crowd, and that's to lower prices.
So this is basically a thinner touch pro 2 w/out the keyboard for the same price on a 2year contract?
Agree ... unless you absolutely have to have a thin phone then you are better off with the TP2.
And a 5MP camera.
That's not the LATEST version, it doesn't have the shortcut icons on the home screen that the Leo has.
also, is that a wide, VGA display, or a WVGA display? there's a BIG difference.
I'd bet that screen is probably a mockup. But let's say it's a real screen. Latest version of what? Manila? It's obviously not the latest leak of WM 6.5.1 (latest I've personally tried is 23414 with the large bottom bar and small top bar) As for Manila, you know that it's customizable, it could be 2.6. I'm curious what's going to launch on VZW in FIVE days considering xda and ppcg post new leaks of WM almost weekly, and while I would had been convinced 6.5 was done with 23017, I'd say 6.5.1 is far from done on 23414. It'll be interesting indeed.
Because if there's one thing we need, its more mobile phone models.
I agree. Choice is awesome.
Okay, Verizon. Good. You got the momentous Windows Mobile 6.5 announcement out of the way, and a phone to go with it.
Now that the kids are in bed break out the grown up gear: Android.
please.
Strange you call the business oriented Windows Moble OS the kids, and the young, less than proven in business Android OS the grown up one...
I'd prefer Android as well, but your analogy is just...bad.
$200 is a great price! Verizon is always the cheapest for hardware - they're plans are another story though. For those hating on WM, if you haven't tried it on the new hardware and TouchFlo 3D, give it a try. This ROM is awesome! It's like using two different OS ast the same time. Don't know how verizons final version will come out but the TP2 from T-Mobile with 6.1 is rock solid. Unlike my past WM experiences with older devices.
I really don't understand why people are giving Windows Mobile such a hard time, especially when TouchFLO is active. The only time I see the base operating system is when I'm dealing with text messages and using the SIM manager, everything else can be done from TouchFLO. I really willing to bet that the people people who give winMo 6+ a hard time either owned the LG Incite or some previous version of windows mobile, or they just like using fancy terms like M$ and winBlow cuz it probably looks extra fancy on their iPhone.
Even a Wimo6.5 phone w/o touchflo will be a great base OS. The home screen on Wimo 6.5 is leaps ahead of 6.1.

Last time I heard, the much adored fruit phone is also made by some cheap chinese manufacturers using cheap labour.
I don't see HTC on the high radiation list. You must be some kind of Korean nationalist freak that only buys Korean products.
Any word on which other WinMo 6.5 phones will be unveiled by VERIZON on October 6th??
The HTC TP2 has not appeared in stores and is Out of Stock Online......are they just skipping the 6.1 and releasing it with 6.5?? Because THAT would be awesome.
What about the Samsung Omnia 2 or Pro?? VERIZON has a real shitty way of drumming up interest in their phones....even their stores have no idea when stuff is coming in.
