Paid apps hitting the Pre tomorrow?
The release of webOS 1.2 got all of the stars aligned for a barrage (or, at the very least, a trickle) of paid applications to start hitting the Pre, and the word on the street is that the first of those will be dropping tomorrow, October 2 -- for users in the US, anyhow (Canadians apparently need to wait a while longer, a problem that Android users up there are all too acquainted with). The company will smartly be tying purchases to users' Palm Profiles, meaning you'll be able to redownload previously bought apps on any device you choose as long as your account is currently tied to it. Of course, the big question is what apps will be available to blow some cash on in the first round of Catalog approvals -- what's everyone hoping for?

hoping? iPhone app emulator!
Nope. Return the stolen USB vendor ID. Please!
I'm just hoping for more free Apps. A PS3 Emulator would be nice too, I suppose.
Lolwut? Surely you mean Gameboy Color emulator..
Clearly you don't remember this:

Hmmm, over-the-air-updates? I want for iPhone. :(
too bad, you only get what almighty Jobs says you get...and when he says you get it!
now quit your crying ya' big baby!
seriously, who can't wait until they get home to install a freaking firmware update? i've watched a friend of mine doing OTA updates on his samsung instinct, and it did not look pretty (took forever, a few failed and had to start over, etc.). i'm GLAD my phone isn't bugging me for updates while my iPhone is plugged directly into my car stereo (oh, maybe i shouldn't mention that it'll only hurt the pre's feelings). the ONLY thing the pre can do that i wish the iphone could is multi-task, and honestly even that's not a big deal since apps take all of a couple seconds to load and most will start where you left off. BFD.
Not aware of anyone who's purchased a pre, would be interesting to see what apps are produced.
Hi.
I'm a mac fan ..but I voted you down because thats how they roll on these forums.
At least you admit to having a problem. That's the first step.
IMHO the killer app for smartphones these days will be a full featured PIM with decent notification controls.
While blackberry and WinMo have a few of these both of those systems lack other advanced features like a decent browser. Of iPhone, Android and Palm, none of these currently have a decent PIM and the iPhone will probably never have one because apple has made alarm controls illegal. Palm's history as always been a strong PIM but webOS's built in calendar app simply does not cut it.
All I really want is an app that ties into the Seattle Metro website, so I can know the real time ETA of my bus. Also, maybe Minesweeper.
Google Maps does that, but the Pre version doesn't. This is one of my biggest complaints.
Google maps on the Pre as of today now has directions for walking and via public transportation.
Woah, you're right.
When did that happen?
Well that's new. Do the bus times reflect delays?

@DR
People over on Precentral only started noticing it today. Definitely wasn't something that came with 1.2.
iPhones had that a long time ago
FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadows are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never back down where Max got a job as s sheriff on an island, althought he doesn't swim. A giant shark terrorizes the vacationers, and he has to go on a boat ride with Roy Nearey to kill it.
NOOOO!! It can't be fake it's got to be real! BOOHOOOHOOHOOHOOO.... wait? What? there's no pic here? oh never mind.
oh, not you again with your lame shadow bit. give it a rest, will ya? it's played out.
just got my palm pre. thanks for the update... about the update :P
yeh turns out if i bank with BECU i get 25% off my cell bill with sprint.
25% off the already $69 everything plan?
yeh
no 25% off the giant shark. i guess that makes it only a large shark.
gonna need a bigger boat.
...
and Roy Scheider
Who do you have to talk to or where do you go to get this discount? :)
The manager was the person that helped me at the sprint store. i also told him about amazon's deal and promised me a 50$ return if i stick with my phone for a month ( past the return policy) which i figured was cool and fare. he and the other sales people were talken about how if you bank with BECU you get a 25% cut on your bill because they are partners with them.
I'm hoping for boobies
don't worry little girl, When you get old enough they will grow all on their own, and if not there's always surgery.
Am I expecting too much to hope for a fart app?
isn't that a contradiction in terms?
more fart apps than apple.
Kill switch disable app?
Fart Apps in 5...4...
FART APPS!
there's already homebrew fart apps available. pft
Sideloading Homebrews is easy! Download webOS Quick Install, follow the instructions to download Palm's Novacom, then use WQI to install Preware and you're golden. The App Cat and App Gal make a perfect match.
a facebook app on par with the iphone app.
Trism.
I really want a podcast downloader too.
Dr.Podder downloads podcasts, so does the just-released Mediafly Mobile
DrPodder has great reviews, but I don't want to spend the time setting up side loading. I'll wait. The built in player's actually not bad now that it has indexing, but downloading from my bedside rather than from my desktop would be very welcome (I mean my S60 could do it for years... but then the iPhone's implementation is kinda crummy too..)
DrPodder downloads them automatically, and it can import an xml file of a list of the podcasts in iTunes.
The app that I want for my Pre is DataViz's Docs to Go.
I say there is probably a 66% chance it will come out tomorrow.
A SlingPlayer app would be most welcome! :)
I figured us Canadians would have to wait. My app store on my Bell pre has no mention of credit cards, or none of the paid for hints you Americans get. I looked hard. Oh well back to homebrew for me. 229 apps and counting
