HTC Pure starting to show up in AT&T stores, not for sale just yet
We'll withhold judgment until we have a far more intimate encounter with the device, but at a glance, the HTC Pure -- AT&T's branded, customized version of the Touch Diamond2 -- might carry the least-exciting industrial design of any variant launched thus far. Considering the business-oriented clientele, that might not be a big deal for the phone's bottom line -- but when you take a look at the slightly better-equipped Imagio that's about to launch over on Verizon, we would've liked to have seen something with a little more spunk here. At any rate, it seems Pure units are starting to flow into AT&T retail locations, which inevitably leads to some time in front of the bright lights and camera; AT&T was mentioned as one of Microsoft's global launch partners for Windows Mobile 6.5 on October 6, so if we connect the dots, we're guessing this is the phone that's gonna make it all happen. So where's that Touch Pro2, then, eh?

Wow... I'm on a roll!
Seriously... AT&T sucks!
Looks to just be a rebranded MDA Compact V.
I don't think it looks too bad really, obviously the TD2 looks much better but meh.
Sooo agree...
This phone looks so... uninteresting
Top 3 reasons to buy a WinMo phone..
#3 WinMo is the only Stylus mobile OS on the market.
#2 Grandpa is more familiar with Stylus OS.
#1 Grandpa is paying for the phone.
You're not David
Waiting for the Touch Pro 2. I hope that the delay to the 18th turns out to be fake and it launches on the 6th too.
Where's the Touch Pro 3, aka. HTC Leo? Looks like it'll come next year, or never to AT&T USA.
I'm betting on never. The Touch HD never came to the US.
If the HTC Leo is the Touch HD2, then that is what I hope comes to the US and would be my TouchPro (Fuze) replacement
You know, I don't understand how this all works. HTC hires industrial designers to design these devices, and they look amazing. Who do the major carriers hire to f these things up? Business & Marketing majors??
Wow. That is as ugly as sin.
Runs winmo, what do you expect
awesome to see HTC and not carrier branding here in the states. give HTC the credit it deserves
I like that non-US retailers were starting to get these in April, and here we are, six months later, and finally they're showing up over here. God bless the American cell phone industry, shielding us from the latest and greatest for almost a decade now.
if this was a capacitive screen i would consider it, but i guess it isn't.
Sounds like you read too much engadget ;) Check out the video they put up of the touch diamond 2 running the leo rom, the screen is really sensitive and appears to work well. That's actually what convinced me to buy this phone (and flash it with a newer OS, of course).
I'm currently an iPhone user, and to be honest. I don't think I can go back to a resistive touch screen. I prefer a glass touch display. It just seem more responsive than any resistive touch screen out there.
It's not pretty, but as far as non-iPhone options on AT&T go this is at the top of the list. It'll make a decent enough hold over for a year until WinMo 7 so I'll probably pick it up on Tuesday. I have so little hope for this carrier getting good phones, it's like they picked up the iPhone and then said "screw it, we're done!"
Actually, maybe I'll just switch to Verizon.
I just switched from Verizon to At&t. And now im beggining to regret it because the Imagio looks pretty damn sweet.
I guess I'm the minority on this design aesthetic, I think it looks pretty good. I also like my Lenovo Thinkpad. I guess the black, rectangular shape is cyberpunk enough to stimulate my imagination.
I don't mind the aesthetic, but I'm typing this on a Thinkpad, myself. I do, however, balk at the HTC use of ExtUSB port for head phones.
bah! ATT and all the US mobile carriers suck. They will never bring the good hardware into the states.
I am just going to buy the HD2 from an overseas retailer. Too bad i still need to use ATT
compared to big red's rounded sexy version, this thing is FUGLY
IS At&T scared of Android?
Its a shame that even though they called themselves at one point as having the best selection of smartphones, they refuse the Android platform. Maybe because they can't put their damn name all over it.
As far as I know the Andriod phone for AT&T is already in progress
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/HTC-Lancaster-phone-p_3711.html
When will it come out IDK. Honestly I dont know too much about Andriod or why it is good, not saying it isn't mind you, just having a hard time to getting some good info on it. This hasn't stopped me from wanting to get my hands on one and i'm eargly waiting for it. However I will be trying the Pure out once it is available, can't wait to see how it is.
The specs on this phone are identical to the Touch HD which came out over a year ago. ATT, release a Leo within a month of O2's release, then I'll get excited.
The Touch Pro 2 Is the IPhone with a keyboard AND they are making you get unlimited data ATT is scared to death their network is going to crash.
Whats wrong with just calling it the Touch Diamond2?
EPIC FAIL for AT&T Pure:
GSM Quad-band phone capable of global roaming (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
UMTS dual-band American 3G (850/1900 MHz)
Cellular_Networks: GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS1900
Cellular:Data-Links: CSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA
2 sites posting specs both report DUAL BAND 3g with only 850 and 1900 mhz, isnt it a bit pointless to release a GSM smartphoe that can actually connect to other frequencies specifically 2100 in Asia and 900 in EU?
VZW Imagio specs list 2100 and 900 bands making it a true worldphone
that can'T actually connect
Really?
Are the kids still saying "Epic Fail"?
I'll wait around for the Fortress. HTC, you make some great devices, but this one isn't for me.
I tried the phone today. The screen is nice and is sensitive (almost too sensitive). The user interface is much better than previous winmo versions but still doesn't hold a candle to the iphone and the pre.
Typing on it sucked and was comparable to typing on previous winmo 6.0 devices using the virtual key board. Too much delay in the key presses to make typing on it pleasant which is wierd because the response of the touch screen while navigating was fine.
The camera is ok, nothing special, the video wasn't that great if you compare it to the 3G S.
The phone feels great and is a big improvement over winmo 6.0 but at the end of the day it still doesn't compare to the usability and naturalness of the iphone.
test
I really hope AT&T does not ruin the TP2 without having a 3.5mm headphone jack. I can live without the capacitive screen but I will just keep using the Tilt if no jack is present. I am tired carrying around an adaptor.
