LG GW620 Android phone spotted in the wild, on video

We haven't heard much from LG about its new GW620 Android phone since it got official with it back in mid-September (and at IFA before that), but it looks like it's now made an official outing in France, where plenty of folks were on hand to get an up-close look at it. As expected, LG hasn't followed the route of HTC or Motorola with some heavy Android customizations, but the handset itself should still turn a few heads nonetheless with its brushed aluminum look, and what appears to be a better than usual QWERTY keypad (or AZERTY in this particular case). Unfortunately, that gets paired with a resistive touchscreen, but the rest of the specs are thankfully less disappointing, including a 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash, a microSD card slot for expansion, and a standard headphone jack. Still no indication of this one making its way over here, but you can get a closer look at it by hitting up the link below, and check it out on video courtesy of the folks at Le Journal du Geek after the break.

that is one proper looking phone. good keyboard, good screen, good UI. hopefully AT&T picks this one up so i can ditch my beat to shit Sony z750a
Agreed.. that's one nice looking keyboard.
ehhh... scratch that. just saw the video and it looks like it suffers from the same problems as most phones in this genre. It's slooow to respond to certain commands. The very same reason I got rid of my Nokia N82.
Get rid of the Sony in any case.
My Hero with it's Android goodness and its Sense UI, has been a revelation.
Add a physical qwerty and make its beautiful capacitive multitouch screen a bit bigger and you've got a dream phone.
Azerty ?
Haven't traveled much, have you?
Yes, it does seem aueer.
I qgree
I understand other countries use AZERTY, but please tell me this will be QWERTY in the states.
Of course!
that keyboard is just asking for millions of typos.
Wow, that's only ugly looking chubby phone. Do not want.
I really like the changes LG made though, with the dock and cube ui. Don't like the resistive screen or it's size though.
And now for the question I always ask. Can it run Flash?
It looks slow... In the other video (CNET w/ french dude) it appears the guy actually tries to time the changeover of the screen when opening the keyboard, yet fails - http://www.cnetfrance.fr/news/mobilite/video-lg-gw620-android-39708423.htm @ 2:50. And this is most likely w/o any other apps running so the phone appears at its best... I would just end up getting mad at the damn thing and throwing it out a window.
Not too bad, I like the brushed aluminium. But it seems to be a bit slow, so LG should keep the price low, otherwise there are alternatives that might be more interesting (esp. the T-Mobile Pulse/Huawei U8220).
Problem, I love android but, LG is well known to make the worst hardware ever. At least it has a cam and flash for a change! Thats very welcomed, I think I will hold out on this one before upgrading
Also seems like it is really lagging, sad, considering its supposed to have a faster processor
looks to be a bit large
if i see the number 7200 ever again i WILL KILL
Seems like a nice looking device, and the customizations are certainly interesting. But they really need to put a faster processor in that thing. Or optimize the UI in the same way HTC (eventually) did with Hero. Or both.
Love the keyboard on this thing, hate the screen. Still havn't seen a unit that could replace my G1 yet...
lolz what about the hero or the mytouch 3g? they both have better specs and will be upgradeable to eclair
and neither have a physical keyboard.
I like the customizations from LG on the UI, cool keyboard (phone is not too big, it has slide out qwerty after all and looks only slightly thicker than HTC Hero) and nice brushed aluminum, but why the resistive screen that looked liked it needed a few presses to get a touch recognized sometimes, I mean this ain't like the budget HTC Tatoo, don't get cheap LG. I don't get LG, most of their new phones excluding Winmo ones, have capacitive screens like Arena, Viewty, Chocolate BL40.
I love Android with a passion - I really like a good keyboard and at times they can be quite fast But this just looks like a dog - I hope this was this one phones issues before I would ever take a 2nd look.
Please please let this be the only Android phone I did not want to take to my bedside ;)
This would be better with Android on it ...

The screen looks like it isn't that responsive. With resistive screens, I think using the front of the fingernail might be better. Also there was no mention of processor specs so this might not have very impressive specs.
It looks like they did do some customizations, like the dock on the bottom and the 3D UI. Hopefully that UI isn't going to slow the phone down too much.
Mmm. Resistive..
I'm wary (see some of my previous comments) about getting another LG, but if they manage to price this right, I might give it a whirl.
*thought*
Out of interest, with a Windows Mobile, you had a neat little xml file (or editor, nowadays!) where you could add all kinds of stuff to the homescreen. Time/date, sms count, todo list, etc. Where and when, and HOW SMALL you wanted it.
so, for example, rather than having a megaton clock, and enough space for the menu button, you could have everything in a neat little package.
Just wondering if you can do the same on Android.
*moan*
And, even more importantly, can you have a small font, too, so's I can read more than 3 words of my text/email on the screen at once?
Damn, it's so pathetic having a 240x400 screen, and yet still having to SCROLL through a single sms!
*hyper moan*
A DS can shove a book on a screen smaller than that, why is my phone struggling to show me nothing!?
My Amstrad CPC could do better!
FFS, LG!
FFS!!!
*end rant*
Resistive? That's like saying, "your new Ferrari has a lawnmower engine, but the rest of it is really nice!" :-)
Hmm... This looks pretty good from a cursory look.
I want an Android phone with a touch screen and a physical keyboard, and so far the only two phones that have this are this and the HTC G1.
Even if the specs aren't up to snuff, LG could easily fix that in another iteration...
Wow, can you say lag?
The keyboard looks pretty sexy though.
So since this has a physical keyboard wouldn't going with a resistive screen actually make more sense so you could use it for I dunno jotting notes or using non-Latin characters... you know like the type used by all of Asia? I've used capacitive screens and they were good for the first oh wow this is kinda neat... Then you do actual PDA type stuff like select small text or write a note that isn't 48 pixels wide and it comes out sorry wanting.
