Video: PSP Go hacked, says 'hello world!'

As you'd expect, as soon as the PSP Go hit the shelves the homebrew community came out in force, looking to see which of its fave hacks and exploits might have made the trip from the original PSP to its UMD-less brethren. And here we are, with two videos posted by YouTube member Freeplay offering us tantalizing proof that indeed, at least one has. Of course, the whole thing is pretty rudimentary, the result of exploiting a known bug in an existing PSP game (which this particular hacker is remaining tight-lipped about rather than see Sony patch the thing). Karl B., who helped us to this one, provides a caveat: "It's user-mode only, meaning no flash modification, no piracy, no advanced custom themes, no plug-ins -- none of that." All the same, it does our inner geek a sliver of hope, doesn't it? Videos after the break.

I was expecting this to be more LEDs, maybe brighter than ever! hacked!
That's a Bingo!
The music score on the second video is hilarious.
Yes!
HELLO WORLD.
..and PSP Scene 2.0 begins.
according to this, the PSP GO has alot of problems:
http://www.epinions.com/review/Sony_PSPgo_16_GB_Black_Console/content_487177293444
some of them weren't mentioned in the Engadget review.
okay 1st of all you gotta give credit for PSP developers for this new release.
Some caveats we've seen:
1) UMD (optional) peripheral - - Please don't remove it permanently. Traditional PSP users still want that feature to be intact
2) A Snazzy Place to Download Free PSP Games - Let's face it, downloading all your games in PSP GO's official website with a price tag ain't that cool
3) Bigger Memory in the future - a 16GB internal + 16 max memory (external) = 32 . if I Have a game which is amounting to 2 gigs each. I can only install 16 games then? What If I want to store some HD quality movies and music? - - A storage upgrade will be very generous indeed
We have a little review about PSP GO: http://pinoytutorial.com/techtorial/psp-go-a-nightmare-for-psp-users/
And why some users call it a "NightMare"
okay, so he typed something in notepads?
The fact that someone got a unauthorized program to work on the PSP Go is an accomplishment itself. Seeing as though you don't find it that big of a deal, I assume you're not familiar with the homebrew scene.
You think Sony would have learned to make it unhackable by now, as they did with the PS3...
You can't make something unhackable.....
Everything has a code, and people have to just figure it out....
The ps3 is just really really hard to do so... And with games going up to 50gb, the download time won't be short either.
People already know the code, so it's easier to hack it again... Sony can try to stop it, but it will probably happen again..
First of all, there's no such thing as unhackable, and as impressive as the PS3 has been to standing up against software hacks, it's only a matter of time.
Secondly, the PSP Go still has the same architecture as the regular PSP, so I'd imagine those familiar with hacking the older PSP's were in familiar territory with the Go. It's not like it's a new platform.
Yeah, nothing is really unhackable. Not even the PS3. That being said, I'm surprised engadget got this story a bit late. Give it a couple weeks, month at most and we'll be playing homebrew and legally created backups of all of our owned games in no time :D
Well, they could've made it at least as secure as the PS3, which, as far as I know, hasn't been cracked yet.
But Chris Miller.. PSP Go! doesn't use UMDs.. I'm sure over time, most games will be available to download over PSN anyway, and then I'll think about getting one.. I like mine legal..
Nimer_55, psp iso loaders are for "backups".
"Well, they could've made it at least as secure as the PS3, which, as far as I know, hasn't been cracked yet."
At the cost of requiring twice the work from game developers to work around the hardware.
That didn't take long.
thats what she said
Really? She never said that to me...
oh yes she did, did you not check your email?
If you read what Freeplay says, still a long way to go, it's just proof that it can be hacked. Dark Alex already said it doesn't want anything to do with it, so who knows...
PSPgo hack is easer then ever this would no doubt change the minds of people who are in to this to this and get a PSPgo if sony wont give us away to backup are UMD disk then we will just do it ourselves.
'backup' your UMD disk? I'm sure someone out there really wants to do this, but most people just want to play games without paying for them.
But hey, if this is really your concern, then just download your games. You can redownload them if something happens to them.
This thing is gonna flop big time.
thats also what she said............
...before your ava finally shows up on the refresh -_-..... damn this comment system. i have failed.
damn girl you fine....lets get hitched
I TOO AM A RAGING HORMONE-FILLLED TECH NERD.
RAWR RAWR BOOBIES UR HAWT etc. etc.
What the Go? Yeah I figure it will too with its High and lack of BC or the umd trade in program. So nice to see a Beautiful woman posting on Engadget and a PSP fan to boot. I like you.
Ok... now I'll get one.
sweet... too bad I can't pick up one of these because I'm still paying for school :(
Factor it into ur loan or do a programming class and then put this on ur list or peripherals that you plan on using in your final thesis. Then you'll just have to pay it later and all that interest. but at least you'll have one.
holy shit, i cant believe it... soon enough i can stop holding on to my backup 2000 and use my GO like its supposed to be used
How long will it take until we see CFW?
Take your bets now!
That's what she said.
I say before the end of the year.
And plus I bet Sony will come out with a 6.11 or 6.20 update patching this within a week.
When will it be released? Never.
that's what she said
Hmm... why would you want to downgrade to a lower firmware and make some of your games not work?
Who said we were downgrading? Plus we don't know yet if earlier firmwares will work in this one. Eventually there might be an open firmware allowing newer homebrew applications made for that firmware and such, and eventually a 1.50 kernal addon, leading to a full custom firmware, delivering the same homebrew and piracy goodness that we've come to love over the life of the PSP.
CFW: The only thing that will save the PSP Go.
Once a price reduction is in order, this would be great for CFW! 14 GB internal, plus M2 cards are too too expensive. And if you use CFW, likely you don't use UMD that often. It would make this a nice little compact machine.
can you use a pandora or at least try it, i know what you're, no idiot its internal, so remove the back and you'll see that the battery is tethered so cut the wires and make them longer and attach a psp 1000/2000 battery to it and try it, i just don't want to do it 1 because of the bricking, 2) because im not well versed with the system, and those like TEAM GEN are better at it and would know how to better use that to their advantage, but this hack seems pretty obvious what he did and what game he used, won't give either out, but those who follow the PSP hack scene closely can figure out what it took, but like me may not be skilled enough to pull it off. (and please if you know the game don't give it out, nor the method used so Sony doesn't catch on right away shame on engadget for reporting this (okay maybe not shame), but this will most likely force a new update and harder cracking. For those on 6.10 try to avoid upgrading if you can, hopefully we can stave off Sony for at least 2 months, till this gets cracked to a fun state, like most dual owners I would love to phase out my 2000.
who the hell is Karl B? I sent this in the moment it was released at psp updates. I want credit for this scoop. Freeplay is one of the best out there and I know which game and xploit he is using, but like he said. It will remain a secret. I'm tradin my 360 elite in for a Go this week. I'll use this same exploit myself.
Use the "xplot" to do what, exactly? Launch a bit of custom text on to the screen? You can't do anything with what has been discovered, other then give a bit of home to the rest of modding community.
Smaller screen size than the previous PSP, non removable battery, no UMD which means long game and video downloads and high price tag. Think I will pass.
Built-in 16GB of flash storage, Bluetooth for use with PS3 controllers/headsets/keyboards/etc, tiny form factor.
As for long video and game downloads... you *can* get them on your PC and transfer them over.
But yeah, it's not for everyone.
Price should be hacked by Christmas... or people still won't care.
lol Forgot to conceal thy MAC address.
This is why I love the homebrew community........ More efficient than any dev team........
