HTC Dragon Android device surfaces in firmware build, could pack 1GHz processor

This one's about as early as it gets, but what you're looking at above is purported to be a screenshot of a firmware build for a hereto unheard of Android device called the HTC Dragon. Now, that's interesting enough in and of itself, but the real kicker is that the phone is said to pack a 1GHz processor (most likely Snapdragon), which should help make HTC's Sense UI snappier than ever -- the rumored 800 x 480 display certainly doesn't hurt things either. Not much more to go on than that, unfortunately, but you can check out a few more exciting screenshots at the link below.

Um, t, just because it's 1ghz doesn't mean it'll surely "eat your battery up."
A 486 will eat it up and it's only 133mhz :/
Smaller chips + more efficiency + better power management + other stuff + lolcat = battery and cpu performance
Bring on the Dragon, 1ghz, and 800x480 please...preferably with a tactile keyboard.
Oh, and no G1-esque ugliness.
same, with a physical keyboard.
it will be very useful for me when playing emulated games or chating when playing touch games
I just registered htcdragon.net just because of this!
what you couldn't get .com
the full 1GHz doesn't have to always be in use. Somebody could make an app to underclock it to save power.
Bah let's all whine for a faster processor, and then when one "might" appear whine that it'll eat your battery. Look, you're free to buy a 528mhz model in one of many flavors this Winter if you can't handle the SPEED!
No because unlike Apple's iTardphone we can get extended batteries that will easily take care of this "problem". And unlike trendy twinks, I don't need to have skin tight jeans so the only thing I could fit in the pockets would be a star trek comm badge. I wear pants like the normal mortal who actually can put a few things in their pockets.
Everyone is so preoccupied with OMG OMG! its thicker then a CD jeweled case! NOOOOOOO. I'm actually finding that these freaking phones are so small my hand can wrap around it and impact sig strength.
PS- The G1 is a 528Mhz based system. It blows in terms of the ability to do audio and anything else at the same time.
I wear skinnies, and I don't really have problems fitting a device that big in my pants. So the whiners are just too poor to buy this, or they love a certain Steve a bit too much.
He has a point, we should take a few steps back, I want my wireless telegraph, the mobile model needs to get better battery life before we think of new processors....
They went to a lot of trouble to get a screen shot..
it's just not easy on android.
Go download the app "Picme"
No they didn't. All you need is either:
a) the SDK and take screenshots from there or,
b) have a rooted phone and use the Screenshot application.
It's fairly simple. Plus, given that the kernel shows Drizzy-Drake (who is a dev in XDA), plus the software version shows as 1.0.0.A6288, it is most likely a screenshot from a G1 running Hero or a rooted Hero.
Here's the screenshot I sent to Engadget from my G1's edited build.prop:

You mean its difficult to find any of the 3 different apps that are available? Oh right. Talking trash about what you don't know about. Got it. Never mind carry on.
Yeah because ddms is so very hard to use..
He's probably referring to the fact that you have to have a rooted phone, which isn't as easy and fool-proof as a lot of trolls on XDA like to make it sound, what with so much garbage posted on that site and no clear, definitive guide as to where to start and what to do/what not to do.
MUST GO. . . . MUST BUY!!
South Park reference. . . .
You can always freeze yourselve
wow HTC Dragon just sounds cool....
Person A: hey what kind of phone is that?
Person B: its called a Dragon!
Person A: oh cool....i have an iphone
Person B: cool story bro
I actually laughed out loud. Thanks /g/.
It also sounds way sexier when you say, "Lemme whip out my dragon."
Lol, and you wont sound like a tool when you use it either,
[Not a tool]
"Leme just whip out my dragon here and google it"
[Is a tool]
"I'll just simply google it on my iPhone"
on a more serious note, does anybody know how difficult it will be to have an app on both a 480x320 resolution and an 800x480 resolution? Is there gonig to have to be a different Android Market for high res apps and one for low res? How does that work?
Well webOS is scalable and one would presume there is something similar in Android OS. Google and HTC can't have envisioned sticking to HVGA forever.
Android mostly pushes devs towards 'fluid' layouts that will automatically scale when your resolution changes (i.e. landscape vs portrait mode), so unless someone builds a 800x480 phone with a 2.5" screen, we'll probably be good.
Latest Android builds are meant to deal with the mixed resolution requirements. Just have to wait and see.
There is a separate Android Market for this resolution. AppsLib from Archos, it's the app store on the archos 5, and other 480x800 Android devices.

Noob Question: Does this mean you could flash on an Snapdragon HD2 with android if it was previously running Windows Mobile?
FuzzyDuck
ya .com was not avail so i got htcdragon.net...hmm i wonder who got .com
Intels 486 maxed out at 100mhz :D
Ummm...you guys know that anyone could modify that field to show anything right? All you have to do is edit the build.prop file in the system folder. I just emailed the Engadget guys a screenshot of the About Phone screen from my G1 showing the "model" as HTC SuperDuperDoubleDragon.
C'mon now, just because is on the internet, it's not true.
snapdragon, dragon, angry dragon......what next.

Fook you Engadget and your ret@rded posting system. No really. You are the short bus of the comment system industry.
I think it is about time phones cut loose with the standard fair of hardware. Like netbooks, they are al just blurring the lines of mediocrity. This phone could prove that this shit needs to knight ryder style turbo boost "up in this shit".
HTC Dragon?
Oh snap!
... I'm a 'gon go cry now...
It's only fitting that the HTC dragon runs on the snap dragon processor...
