HYPOLED, an 18-month-old project tasked with creating OLED microdisplays for upcoming
pico projectors, has just released a report of its recent progress. Among the advances is a
Fraunhofer IPMS-designed all digital VGA, full color OLED microdisplay backplane with matching pico projector optics. The display measures just 0.18-mm thick and is already in prototype manufacturing. The super miniscule display is connected to a MediaBox enabling it to operate via WiFi. Fraunhofer is now expected to begin developing a prototype of the full projector, meaning that with any luck, our picos should be getting a teensy, tiny bit cooler in the near future.
That IS awesome!
Rather pretty tiny.
That's not a penny.
Its a euro I think.
20 eurocent or so,

If that's not a penny then HYPOLED needs to make it smaller! :| I will not accept a sufficiently euro sized projector. I just simply won't!
so true!
Careful I think it is metric.
It's 5 euro-cent, and I think it's one of these giant coins they have for press shots. ;)
We need this in our laptops built in. I think it would be pretty handy as an additional little projector . They can start with gaming laptops and work them into the business laptops eventually.
Better yet, cell phones.

I don't feel like having them change from lcd to oled will make much of a difference. I mean, can you really get much smaller with the new tech?
I would hate to have a LCD projector- it would either be on or off.
Combine this with the eee keyboard.
all this time people have been using giant-sized coins to fool us!!!!!
Not really that impressive. Here's video of it from San Antonio last June:

It should be noted that the pico-projector from hypOLED is monochrome. The microdisplay is full colour. This is due to the high-brightnesses needed for a projcetor and the limited lifespan of the full colour materials.
All glory to the HypoLED!
a-ha, just what I suspected... an oversized coin!
